Friday Quick Links: Kyle Beach assigned to Rockford, Boynton's face is broken
Just a few quick notes here before I get to the preview later:
- Jesse Rogers reported on twitter that Nick Boynton is on the ice during practice today but is wearing a cage. We heard a rumor before the Wild game that he had a few broken bones in his face after his "fight" with Cam Janssen and it's looking like it's true.
- Hold onto your butts - Kyle Beach is back in Rockford. The over/under on the numbers of games he plays before he's dismissed without report has been moved up to 5 for this year. Also, the IceHogs are having a beach towel giveaway on Saturday.. which is just kind of a funny coincidence.
- This clip will be the best 10 minutes you
spendwaste all day.

"This clip will be the best 10 minutes you waste all day."
These may be the jokes they all whispered in Niemi’s ear. I get it now. It WOULD be funny.
But when it was suggested to him that Toews v. Kane seems likely to become a sidebar to every future international hockey tournament, he smiled and said: "I'd like us to win something together, too."

I bet he whispered
“I’ll be back” into Huet’s ear every time Huet was supposed to start.
I went to a fight the other night and a hockey game broke out.
- Rodney Dangerfield
:(((((
poor, poor Huet

speaking of niemi
great article by jesse rogers:
http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/news/story?id=5048863
everything I saw there makes me feel more positive about his prospects
long term and short term
I like players that didn’t have it all on a silver platter coming up, and had to stick with things even when others weren’t necessarily on their side
Confusion will be my epitaph.
Oh look at what we have here...
TSN is running a “column on goaltending issues”: http://www.tsn.ca/columnists/dave_hodge/?id=316395heading into the playoffs and look which team graces the cover.
Yah, the ’Hawks have issues going into the playoffs with their goaltender {Niemi} who has as many shutouts as losses – 7.
"The Golden Goal! And Canada has - once in a lifetime - Olympic Gold!"
Congratulations to The Golden Boys- Toews, Seabrook, and Keith- for delivering the GOLD to CANADA.
sigh
Jokes and I are just not getting along lately.
Explanatino from Twitter since my English is not working well today: Because Twitter provided no easy way to group tweets or add extra data, the Twitter community came up with their own way: hashtags. A hashtag is similar to other web tags- it helps add tweets to a category. Hashtags have the ‘hash’ or ‘pound’ symbol (#) preceding the tag, like so: #traffic Or in your case #shutouts, #losses
So you using # for “number of” made me think of Twitter.

Well, if I was better versed in Twitterish, the joke would have worked just fine. I bet chiblackhawks was amused.
I've finally got gibberish mastered,
now I have to start learning twitterish, too?! FML!
(Actually, I’ve spoken fluent gibberish for quite some time.)

Beach was a point per game WHL player all the way through his time there
And he is big.
So I would figure him to be at least a passable AHL player.
Whether he is ever going to wear an NHL jersey in a regular season game, much less be a productive player at that level, I see that as much more doubtful.
Confusion will be my epitaph.
From what I've read
Beach was skilled enough to go higher in the draft but what held him back was his maturity and anger management issues. He seems to have controlled himself a bit better this year and had 86 points with 52 in 68 games (yeah, I know, against younger competition). Me not knowing too much about how well his game from the WHL will translate into a career in the NHL and AHL, what are his shortcomings that you fear will stop him from becoming a productive player in the NHL? Is it his skill set, does he not fit well with the Hawks system, or is he just too much of a hothead to become a productive player. He at least seems like he could bring what Burish brings to the game, except with more size, can actually fight, and more skill. What’s stopping him from becoming, at minimum, a productive fourth liner in this league?

Remember
he’s only 20.
You would expect that he would get a little better at control issues as he gets a bit older. If he’s growing some in that regard — and continues — he can wind up being a big contributor in 2011-12.

wraparoundcurl of PPP
watched him when he got traded to the Spokane Chiefs, her WHL team. I think she mentioned she wasn’t the biggest fan of Beach when they got him but he won her over eventually. Sounded like he’s been able to sort of hold himself back more now or something.

I’m not sure who to compare Beach to, but from what I’ve read and from what little I’ve seen, it’ spossibel he can max out as a Corey Perry type player but maybe a little more fightyer. Or is that too much to ask?
by EamusCatuli23 on Apr 2, 2010 12:30 PM CDT up reply actions
Perry seems to be shaping up as a solid 70 (+) point per year guy
that would be great.
And another guy who CAN fight (not necessarily does it much, but can) would always be welcome.
As Conn Smytheused to say: if you can’t beat them in teh alley, you can’t beat them on the ice".
Not that you should play that way, but you ought to be able to respond that way if needed.
Confusion will be my epitaph.
I've heard the same about him
early on, one would not have been surprised if he had punched out the Zamboni or canibalized the concession staff.
He has recognized a need to ‘grow up’ and get control of himslef, and has reduced the penalty minutes per game ratio a bit. I’ve heard that he is – if not better under control – then at least less volitile. A year or two in the AHL might have him ready to be a competent NHL player
Confusion will be my epitaph.
Un Hockey related
however it is AHNOLD humor related, search Ahnold’s Pizza Shop and Arnold Schwarzenegger Japanese on Youtube….dont watch these at work

Working?
Or getting paid to hang out at SCH?
Some days, I wonder if SCH is getting in the way of my work, or the other way around.

it’s very slow at my job right now. I’m losing my mind.
by Katherine215 on Apr 2, 2010 12:41 PM CDT up reply actions
as long as you don't lose the job from it being slow, you're OK
having a mind seems to be somewhat overrated these days, and clearly not a life necessity.
We’d miss the minded K here though.
Confusion will be my epitaph.
yeah, that is my worry too
especially since I’m buying a house. But I’m the only one in my department so there’s some job security. I just wish they’d find me more work.
I’d probably be here even MORE than I am now if the awful happened.

there are a lot of uits going up lately
and if you can put up with the hyper-scrutiny of the application process these days (where was this a few years ago when we needed it?), rates are still good
Confusion will be my epitaph.
My sister and I
have been trying to buy a 2-flat for two years. We’ve had 4 different properties fall through for a variety of reasons during that time, with a couple others that we couldn’t get contracts on. Home buying is a horrible process.
We have a contract on a 5th right now and, provided the nice 88 year old lady selling the place doesn’t die before our closing date, this one may actually go through.
If yu have a valid contract - the estate would have to close the sale
although there could be some delays and hiccups (and there are more oportunities to collapse the whole sale).
Not that I wish anything bad should happen to the nice old lady
Confusion will be my epitaph.
she's kind of alone
and tried to give me her cat. So I hope she ends up ok.
We’re quite familiar with hiccups, delays, and collapses so we’re trying to keep our hopes from getting to high.
Feel free to email me if you ever have any questions or need advice Katherine
I’ve been in the mortgage industry for 17 years. My email address is on my profile, but if you do email me, give me a nudge in the comment section to go check . Otherwise good luck with everything!!! Sounds like you got the contract in before the tax credit deadline.
Well, folks, I want to thank you for being here for the recording of my live comedy album. Funny material and laughter will be dubbed in later.

thanks, that's really nice of you
Honestly, I hope I don’t have to because that means yet another house has fallen through. :)
ooh, very nice
and good luck with this one. 5th time’s the charm?

lol, you have no idea
how many times I’ve heard that. the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ones were supposed to be charmed too! But thanks!
damnit! there's got to be a charm around here somewhere
keys, change, pocket knife, nail clippers … no, really, I’ll find it …
Confusion will be my epitaph.
but I wouldn't want to see you mindless
that demographic is always more than adequately covered here (and everywhere) already

Me niether!
now, I’m going shopping. half days are wonderful things. “See” you all tonight for the game!
what are you talking about?
grocery shopping is my favorite kind of shopping. that, and looking for hawks paraphernalia.
ugh
I hate grocery shopping. Probably because I have a shitty kitchen that I hate to cook in. The only good thing about it is I get a lot of my groceries at Target so I can get fun stuff while I"m there.
I did peruse the Hawks paraphernalia at Jewel though.
I love grocery shopping
Probably because (contrary to common belief) I’m a guy. Or am I?
I imagine there’s a strong correlation to me loving food.
I thouhgt guys hated shopping
of all kinds.

Oops
Did I just not really care in any way?
Katherine, just to set the record straight, there are men who love to shop for food. They are cooks, either professional or serious amateurs, and they are not your friend. Unless they are your friend. In which case, they are probably your best friend.
(170 g) * (3x10^8 m/s)^2 = 1.5x10^16 J
Um, ok
I was kidding. I’m perfectly aware many guys like to shop, for food or other stuff. I was mostly giving VerStig a hard time about “it’s” identity. I did not mean to offend.
by Katherine215 on Apr 3, 2010 12:48 AM CDT up reply actions
You didn't offend
but I did give CNS his “unless/until” thing with that reply.
My “Did I just not really care in any way” was directed at VerStig’s weird identity confusion.

no, don’t hate “shopping” per se at all. I just have a limited range

broken
nose??? he could have a hairline fracture in his face… pretty common and as long as he doesnt take anymore shots to the face (thats what she said) he should be fine.
