Live From The Five Hole - Episode 5
As promised, we give you another installment of Live From The Five hole, where we take a look back at what was the conference quarterfinal series against the Predators, and take a look forward to the imminent bloodbath between the Hawks and Canucks. Mike Halford from the excellent (in spite of the peckers on the ice they cover) Orland Kurtenblog and Team 1040 in Vancouver was a good sport in joining us in getting a view on the enemy's perspective. The podcast also marks the return of what should be a familiar sounding band from the series against Vancouver from last year. As always, it can be downloaded below, and on iTunes if you search for "Second City Hockey" or "Live From The Five Hole"

Yeah, but I'll be tied up w/family stuff
My little brother’s play, celebrating my mother’s birthday, plus checking out my other brother’s new house… would’ve loved to make a meetup though!
Aw...
bring the family to the meetup! Be all, “I’ve been hearing about this great place to eat…oh, what’s this? A hockey blog meet-up? SCH? What is that?”
I'd love to bring my little brother someday
the rest probably wouldn’t approve of my pantsless internet friends
“Mom, there’s this really nice restaurant in Schaumburg…”
maybe the term "sans culottes"
would make us sound better?
Confusion will be my epitaph.

I see what you did there
and what you did there. Nice layering. (clothing pun alert)
So would it therefore be fitting if I show up wearing my bonnet rouge, pantaloons and sabots?
Well, folks, I want to thank you for being here for the recording of my live comedy album. Funny material and laughter will be dubbed in later.

Does anyone else feel
that the photo caption should read: “This is from… Mathilda”?
Best Jean Reno flick next to Le Grand Bleu.
By the way, thanks a lot krome, now you’ll have me typing in freagin’ French by the end of the day.

Interesting blogcast...
didn't the "experts"
pick the Canucks last year? And the Caps this year?
by Katherine215 on Apr 30, 2010 1:03 PM CDT up reply actions
many of the "experts"
also chose the Preds to win
I went to a fight the other night and a hockey game broke out.

...amd the experts...
haven’t been running to Vegas to back up their opinions.
Gentlemen! I have invented...this thing!
I got that
but why do you think this was homerism? No one has said we are going to run away with the series. Most of the comments here have stated it should be a very close series. The podcast even basically said that we are pretty well evenly matched except for the blue line. Of course our guys are going to think we are going to win. Is that being a homer, or just being a good fan?

From your comment
about us underestimating the Canucks it seemed you were putting some stock in the picks, while recognizing that the experts were not the best sources.

I'd like to think we were pretty even-handed
We certainly gave credit where it’s due up front, but if you’re looking for us to extol the virtues of the Canucks defensemen, look elsewhere. I think we were pretty critical of the soft spots in the Hawks’ game as well. But these differing opinions are what make for good-natured arguments back and forth. Thanks for listening.
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a goddamn shame.
I have to concur ... not a "homerism" site at all.
If anything, we’re prone to over-fretting everything.
Confusion will be my epitaph.
I think we're also more critical
of our own team than some fan bases are.

The only criticism I think you could make of ourselves
(other than the obvious) would be that we’re self-centered… on the team, I mean. I don’t think we really paid much attention to the Preds and I know that I, for one, underestimated them because of it.
I seriously think you should have preferred the Hawks being considered the favorites amongst the "experts"
They seem to do pretty well when someone says “they can’t.” Remember that guy Kane from last year – who couldn’t score 5 on 5? How’d that work out?
