Have any of you out there heard of anything like this...?
Tuesday evening I took my daughter to practice wearing a 96-97 Coyotes jersey, the ugly Art Deco desert dog one. I was showing support for the Coyotes that night, hoping they'd eliminate Scum.
One of the younger coaches, in his mid 20s, made some comment about "Get that jersey outta here!" to which I replied "Please tell me you're not a fan of *that* team!" The kid was born and raised in the North burbs, and said he used to be a Hawks fan.
I asked him how he could root for Scum. This was his reply:
"Because they tore down Chicago Stadium and built the United Center." I shit you not, that was his answer.
I would understand getting fed up with the Blackhawks after losing a key player, making a bad trade, getting fed up with no home games on TV, something that was the usual gripe about the Blackhawks during the mid to late 90's. Nope.
Now this kid is 25 at the oldest, which means the demolishing of the Stadium caused him irreparable mental anguish at the ripe young age of 7, or younger.
It's 3 days later and I still can't quite make sense of this reasoning. I think I'm just going to chalk this up his being part of the Red Wing Fan Tin Foil Hat club.
