Jeremy Roenick, P.O.S
(If this topic has been discussed in a previous thread, I apologize for the redundancy)
I'm sure many of you reader out there are aware of the comments made by former Hawk Jeremy Roenick in the past few days. JR, when asked about his rooting interests in the Western Conference Finals, told ESPN 1000 (cringe here) that "If you put a gun to my head, I got to go with the Sharks." Well, why wouldn't JR choose to side with a team that he played two injury-filled seasons for? Why wouldn't he give his blessing to a franchise that barely saw him play over a team and fanbase that still adore him (and actively wear and even buy his #27 sweater)? I'll tell you why.
First, you would think that JR would be able to turn politician and find a way to gracefully avoid giving a straight answer. He knew that his comments would deeply hurt those Blackhawks fans that supported him for so many years, but he said it anyway. If you think he was done destroying his reputation with Hawks' fans there, you're dead wrong. Roenick added that if the Cup Finals were between Chicago and Philly: "I said if you had a gun to my head, I said I did have to [root for the Flyers] I didn't want to leave in 1996. If I have to choose, then I have to choose, that's just what it is."
I know it's hard to believe that this is the same man that was honored with a Blackhawks Heritage Night, in which he stated that he "bleeds red" and "will be a Blackhawks forever" while his family stood emotionless beside him. This is a man who couldn't accept the reconciliatory overtures made by Rocky's new administration. Bobby, Stan, and Tony all forgave the past iniquities. They have returned to the status of titans in Chicago, known by fans born decades after they left our fair city. Jeremy Roenick will never achieve this status for he is a selfish man. It's true that he was screwed by the "Dollar" Bill's regime. Who wasn't? The players and fans suffered together. Rocky has asked us all for forgiveness, and we forgave for the good of the franchise. It seems that JR would rather see us relocated than succeed. He just can't get over it.
In conclusion, It might be a good idea to think about JR's convictions before slipping on his old jersey and heading to the UC. Get yourself a Toews, Kane, Keith, Mikita, or Hull sweater instead. Don't throw away that ol' #27, just in case Jeremy decides to one day see the light.

How many players on the current Blackhawks does JR know? I’m sure he is very familiar with 80% of the current Sharks, that’s why he is saying what he said. Besides, when has JR ever not spoken his mind without being PC? He probably wants to see his more recent teammates win, that’s all. I’m sure he has more loyalty to the Blackhawks organization than any other. Sounds like the OP is super bitter…
did you listen to the interview?
I don’t think you did. If you want to understand the context in which this was said…..5/19 podcast
He talks more about being bitter about leaving the hawks than he does about simply rooting for old teammates. Everything The Admiral says here is spot on and REC worthy.
And just because JR doesn’t usually go “PC” and skirt around issues doesn’t mean he shouldn’t do it when the situation calls for it.
I used to love JR, but I’ll forgive him when he forgives the hawks. Not that he cares what I think, and I’m not so sure he cares what the hawks fans who love(d) him think.
Ditto for CNS
It's really too bad
that he is more concerned with the ownership that shipped in out than the fans that were heartbroken that he was moved.
He also gave an interview to Versus
not too long ago and picked the Preds to win that series. We all know how that went. When he was asked about Hossa’s hit on Hamhuis he replied that he thought it was worse than Ovechkin’s hit on Campbell. Come on JR you played the game, defend it! Just another example of JR’s classlessness when it comes to Chicago. Don’t get me wrong, the years he spent here were fantastic to say the least, but sometimes you really wish he would just shut up.
I posted this in today's pregame thread, but I think it's more appropriate here

I watched and enjoyed him his whole career in Chicago, but I think I’ve had my limit of his non-stop mindless percussion.
Well, folks, I want to thank you for being here for the recording of my live comedy album. Funny material and laughter will be dubbed in later.

Screw him
Anybody that bitter after so many years (and a different ownership) is pathetic.
Have a small amount of class J.R. and resist the impulse to spit on the fan base that has always supported you.

Way to go!
You had (have) a special place in the hearts of Blackhawk fans, It’s a shame that you had to go and soil yourself.

I was at the Hawks Sharks game
last year that was his last at the UC. The fans showed him so much support and he recieved a standing O after the game and also the fans went nuts when they announced his name for the shootout! If after all of the things he has said about the blackhawks organization the fans can still show class to a great player he should be able to do the same… even if only for the fans that love him! He was and still is one of my favorite players…. what started out as a facination with the fact that he has the same name and initials as me in the early 90’s when I was 4 or 5 years old to his last game with the Sharks, he still will always be one of my favorites! All of my created players in NHL 09/10 sport the #27 in honor of him!
Drink it up!
Roenick has been dead since 1996.
It’s just a pod-person that’s taken over his identity. He died from shock after hearing he’d been traded to Phoenix. That’s the way I reconcile it in my head.

During JR heritage night
I sat in my seat and gave him the finger from both hands. J.R. has only ONE loyalty and that’s to himself. He gives a shit about Chicago fans only if it makes him money. He is a class A asswipe. and I’m glad he can’t shut his mouth enough to hide it, as others are seeing it now too. Fuck you JR.
PS and Hint: Hey, JR. So sorry your injury lingered so long when we needed you and the team was losing. Nice that when we started winning w/o your ass and contract people saw we COULD win without JR on the ice you healed so much faster A miracle.. I’da got rid of your ass too. Fuck you again.

If he could keep his mouth shut, he wouldnt be J.R.
I still like him. He played with the S.J. players and obviously still has ties to that franchise. The ties that he has here in Chicago are strictly loyal hockey fans that appreciated his playing career. I did not hear the quote about the Flyers and if he truly believes the Flyers can beat the Blackhawks he must know something I don’t. I met Jeremy when he was in town for his heritage night and we discussed Doug Wilson and his commitment to being loyal to a franchise which I laughed at because if you look in the background of the Mikita/Hull night puck-drop picture there is Wilson with the Indian head sweater on. J.R. got a good laugh out of this and was nothing but kind and friendly to me and my wife. Everyone can make up their own mind, I made up mine. Go Hawks!
