Chicago Blackhawks - 2010 Stanley Cup Champions
Things have changed forever, we're the Ramblin' Boys of Pleasure
This was a no-brainer
As I asked on the prior thread, what, if anything, are the salary cap implications of this?
Gentlemen! I have invented...this thing!
Congrats Dunc..
First to win since Cheli in 1996 and its fitting because he is our best defenseman since..
With the way this day has been going, were about to find out he gets a 1.5 million dollar bonus that counts against the cap next season.
Compadres! It is imperative that we crush the freedom fighters before the start of the rainy season......And by that I mean it’s time for the worker of the week award!"
LOL. Given the complete unlikelihood at the time he signed his prior contract
that Dunc would ever win anything, we’re about to hear that he gets a $6.5MM bonus . . .
apparently, he wasn't in one of the categories that permits bonuses
so we should be safe
Preparing my psyche for the coming Capocalypse
Confusion will be my epitaph.
Congrats to Duncan Keith
Sharp appeared at the NHL awards with Captain, Kaner and New Teeth with the Cup. If he is representing the team, wonder if that means he is staying?
GET OFF MY LAWN!

"thread of a thousand comments"?
also, bolland I can accept as an untouchable in some cases, given his forte is the PK and aggravating opposing 1st-lines, and he does it extremely well. I’m surprised Hammy is touchable though

Sopel was the one guy going to the parade to represent the team...
so I don’t know if I’d say that.
The “untouchable” rumor makes me a bit more comfortable though.
It's the Chicago Blackhawks man...
but NHL awards is a bit different than a city's Gay Pride parade
only one of those is nationally televised.
not to get everyone worried again
but wasn’t it it DDN + Marlboro 72 at Jay Leno’s, but Sharpie taking Biscuit’s place in Vegas?

Joke that he's nominated.
A joke he was nominated. Sure he is good at offense, but he is a total liability in his own zone.
Compadres! It is imperative that we crush the freedom fighters before the start of the rainy season......And by that I mean it’s time for the worker of the week award!"
Apparently, no
Someone posted in another thread that performance bonuses are only awarded (or only count against the cap (I can’t remember which)) for entry level contracts and +35 contracts. Dunc obviously doesn’t fall into either of those categories.
Ditto for CNS
Keith will get a Bonus
But it will be from the League for winning the Norris Trophy, not paid by the team and does NOT count against the Cap. Toews also received a League Bonus for the CS of $250,000 in addition to his Entry Level Bonus of $1.3M from the Hawks that does count against the Cap.
As stated Performance Bonuses can only be earned by Entry Level Players, Old Fucks (35+) on Multi-year deals, and Broken Veternas on Multi-year deals (Lots and lots of IR/LTIR and >400 games played). No other performance bonuses are allowed by teams per the CBA.

Off topic
I wanted to post this in the new thread, but the topic was discussed in the Buff trade thread.
Here is the Kaner-in-bed deadspin article
There are two comments that were left after the article that are hilarious:
Solid
Yeah, I’d only perform “so-so” with a chick who had the arms of an orangutan required to take that photo.
Winner
About 15 seconds passed before anyone in the room realized he came.

Not to overshadow those hilarious comments on that picture...
I commented on the last thread, but there’s no fucking way that is Kaner. The hair is way too long, and I think Pat shaves his armpits.
That being said, his antics are starting to piss me off. I have to keep reminding myself that he’s 21, but he’s really putting himself under a microscope with all the off-ice shit he’s pulling.

Maybe Toews has, but I wish someone would tell him there’s a line he shouldn’t cross. I know he’s being a “regular 21 year old”, but the fact is, he’s unique. he has to start realizing that too many people have a cell phone camera and are glad to use it for attention

You and I were regular 21 year olds. He is not. I might be reading into this too much, but Sharpie gave him a look tonight while he was canoodling that bunny-shaped slut that said “Dude, seriously? Calm the fuck down.”

All she’s seen of Sharp aside from his Shooter the dog video (b/c we have a basset as well) is his unkempt playoff self.
Tonight, she was watching the awards show with me and when he appeared with Kaner she says, “Whoa, he is hot”… and I just nodded in agreement.
She is also upset that Ladd is on the trading block, as he was her first Blackhawks crush.

it's entirely possible this isn't sarcasm
Nope, never said getting laid was an antic
I was mostly talking about this playboy persona he’s putting out there. Look, he made an ass of himself at the parade (which I was okay with, because it was a fucking Stanley Cup celebration), but it’s time for him to be a little smarter with how he presents himself.
He’s created for himself a nice little “market” as a tabloid spectacle. There are lots of young dudes on this team, and he’s the only one repeatedly in the crosshairs of the media. I’d just rather not have the microscope on him… and judging by the way Sharp was looking at him at the awards show, his teammates might be getting a little sick of it.

I totally agreeToews is a great choice based on the regualr season
unfortunately, I think you’d have a hard time convincing the media that a minus player in the playoffs was deserving. after all, we know statistics are everything to people who don’t have the luxury of watching every hawks game

playoffs don’t factor into the awards

I know,
I was more commenting on what spoke said about Toews playoffs’. I think we all thought Toews was a great 2-way player after the regular season, and if anything, I personally think his stock dropped in the playoffs. I know that sounds ridiculous since he was the CS winner, but the casual observer would look at the +/- and think he isn’t that good as a Selke candidate. So yeah, long explanation, but I was really making fun of the way some awards seem to be chosen based on stats rather than actually looking at what other things a player brings to the table

Another Vote of Confidence for Hawk Hockey Ops
Fans of the Hawk… yet another vote that shows our hockey operation is world class. Duncan Keith is a world class talent and teammate. Today’s moves were required because of the cap, will be good for both teams, will give our young talent the opportunity to step up, and will reload with even more picks. Huet to Rockford, Hammer and Anti back on the bus, and one more trade (Verstegg) and we are ready to run it again.
I’m pretty sure this seals (McClure’s?) the prediction that Keith will be the last Hawk to wear #2.

Mr. Unappreciated
Probably it’s the position, but it feels Teeth doesn’t get the praise he should. He’s not a monster like Chara or Pronger but his all around game is second to none. Great skates, stickwork, anticipation, body positioning … the guy does it all for a d-man. Can’t be any happier for Duncs.
He’s the model for the “new” era of NHL defencemen that wouldn’t have been given a chance before 2005. Guys like Dan Boyle and Wade Redden were a rarity now every team ( or so it seems) has a puck-moving defenceman that can play at both ends.

(I think he’s super great, but I wouldn’t necessarily call him under appreciated)
the NHL Awards
As a whole I found them to be a fuck of a lot better than last year’s. Chaka Khan anyone? Mind you Shinedown and the Goo Goo Dolls weren’t exactly the best of acts but they were far better than anything I say last year … which wasn’t much after Chaka Khan it was ‘hit the power button’ after that. Although, that Cirque-du-Soleil Beetles bit was a train-wreck.
- Ovie waiting for the music to stop so he could finish his speech was pretty funny as was D2K getting cut-off.

Kane, Keith named to All-Star team
Notably absent from the All-Star roster: Jonathan Toews. Just who does the Captain have to bribe/ blow/ browbeat to get some respect in this League? He only had the single best season of any NHL player ever (no really, he’s the only one to win Olympic gold, Olympic MVP, Stanley Cup, and Conn Smythe in the same year), landed second in the playoffs in scoring, and made himself the youngest member of the Triple Gold Club. But somehow he doesn’t get an All-Star berth? WTF, I call shenanigans.

I know, but even for the regular season, the guy had an outstanding year.
Sometimes I wonder if Toews gets overshadowed by his willingness to play a supporting role to Kane’s flashiness. Kane makes the team, but the guy who feeds him most of his scoring chances and plays the role of defensively responsible one on that line gets left off. Sidney, OTOH, has no superstar wingers to play with, so the spotlight lands firmly on him.

remember, toews didn't play a full season, and it took a little time to get back on track after the concussion
by blackhawkeyes on Jun 23, 2010 11:00 PM CDT up reply actions
maybe, but then again if your a point per game player, that's 6 points.
I think it also hs to do with the competition. He was up againt Thing 1/2/? who led the league in scoring. The 2nd team center was Crosby, and I would agree Toews is more deserving than Cindy

Interesting fact
I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but Keith was the only award recipient from a team that advanced past the second round of the playoffs this year.

so what you’re saying is individual awards mean nothing in a team game.

Nah, I'm just pulling fun facts out of my ass
I think for certain awards, how good the team you are on may affect your likelihood to win the individual award. Dunc acknowledged this in his post-award interview basically saying that all those assists he got are a function of how good the other hawks are. Green is even a better example of that. But I agree with your point. I mean look at Stamkos and Martin St. Louis – both post great numbers during the regular season and Tampa Bay doesn’t even make the playoffs.

you missed the sarcasm warning
I would love to get into a conv about the cap and star players and championships, but this is not the best forum for that quick back and forth.
besides NHL media-types (besides the Canadians (really!?! Florida gets votes!) aren’t that savvy) … I lost my point but you get it

I would just like to say
This has been the most satisfing hockey sports year season era I that having personally witnessed. The growth of the Blackhawks since William passed (may he rest in peace joy) has been nothing short of, well, there just aren’t words.
Thank you Hawks (players, all non-players) thank you SCH (and well, drunks includes all, you sober people are cool too) and thank you (enter whatever god-like entity you think, even if it’s nothing)
This has been so much fun I hope we can all stick around and enjoy it again.

Way to go Duncs!!!
What a fabulous season you had!! What a fabulous team we had the honor to follow all season.
39 years of pain vaporized by one OT goal.
OT but do youself a favor and READ THIS
Got this courtesy of rsnctz (don’t know if she posted it here already), but it’s a live blog from Wimbeldon, and the comments as the Never-Ending-Match-To-The-End-of-Time (Isner v. Mahut) are awesome, and become more cracked-out and existential as the day wears on.
Without a doubt the best thing i read all day. Worth it, even if you’re not into tennis.
Amazing how much more interesting tennis gets
when you starting bringing in zombie players chewing on the spectators.
did you follow any of the live blogs during the Beijing Olympics?
One of the equestrian ones was like watching someone talking to himself in a chat room, with bad grammar and capitalization-fails. The blogger would also make these random side comments about the horse’s name, the rider, and was inept to the point of hilarity.
awwww
I actually like these live blogs (the bad humor in the Eurosport tennis ones is actually kind of entertaining after a while)… but you have to feel for that one fan who got hired to talk to himself there on an event that probably didn’t get so much coverage.
That’s why I love it here — I write a FanPost to talk to myself and other people go there anyway and talk to me!
that, and
we’re not the ones live blogging about the players turning into zombies, and begging the spectators to run out and steal the equipment in order to just end the game.

I was getting a haircut
when I heard he won. My stylist thinks I"m a lunatic after I let out a shriek/squeal at the news. Go Dunc!
If you asked for your hair to be made into the shape of a puck
She probably would have been more prepared. But really what type of lunatic did not scream/shreak when Teeth won?

the annoying thing
is that he knows (or knew) Rocky. His mom was best friends with Rocky’s housekeeper/surrogate mother when Rocky was growing up. They used to go to games all the time. I wanted to stab him with his scissors. After he finished my hair. I told him he needs to reestablish that connection, if not for me, for his kids.

I took it as a sign he was going to win
when I saw Eddie O and JR as the presenters. I still squealed with delight like a little school girl.
How would you like a job where, every time you make a mistake, a big red light goes on and 18,000 people boo?
ahnfire and i were in the Whole Foods bar
and squealed (loudly).
This is after we convinced them to change the flatscreen to the NHL awards, and they switched to the middle of that Cirque du Soleil number, at which point the other people sitting at the bar were like “Ummm…..so yeah, WHAT is THIS? and why are we watching it?” We tried to explain that it was supposed to have something to do with hockey….

NHL network is a few times
I believe I saw it for 1pm tomorrow afternoon and 9am on Friday. They may have it scheduled for more.

fucking useless reply button!
The picture here is of a BC youth hockey team that Brouwer, Ladd, ad Seabrook all played on, which is pretty fucking amazing.
Technology-wise, I’m sorta the anti-CNS, so I dunno how to drop a picture in here. Maybe someone else can.
My point, however, is that, in this picture, we see that the rugged Andrew Ladd was, once upon a time, kind of a pretty boy. Your comment about your ole lady’s crush on him made me think of this.
Good night all.
Gentlemen! I have invented...this thing!
Dunc is my favorite player in the world
but that picture, damn!
The slightly open mouth- sometimes it looks to me like cockiness, then I blink and it looks like mild retardation.
It’s like one of those Necker cubes.

looks very handsome in that picture.

Wonder where Biscuit will take him
all dressed up like that. Someplace romantic I bet.
OK, I’m totally pissed I didn’t realize this was on TV today and I missed it.
The sun never sets on a badass
It's being replayed a few times on NHL network
1:00 pm today and 9:00 am tomorrow that I am aware of.

Congrats to Duncs!
Just like how #9, #21, and #3 (a generation’s best Hawk players, and all players on the same team at some point) were raised to the rafters…
If this current group keeps up its play, we’ll see #2, #19, and #88 raised up there some day too.

Well deseved
Duncs IS the best Defensemen in the league. Mike Green is the best scoring D-Man in the NHL, but that’s not what this award is for. Glad it went to the right man.
I'm surprised that Doughty didn't place second
But I probably shouldn’t worry about that. That kid is going to win more than one of these over the next few years.
yeah THAT really surprised me
I thought this award would go to Doughty, so the fact that Green came in 2nd (esp looking at how Green played vs. how Doughty played), color me shocked.

Great picture of Keith! He cleans up well
Looks like a hillbilly on the ice (I was born in hick country so I can say that).
Glad he won. Can’t believe anyone who appreciates hockey would vote for Green above Doughty. Washington gets more exposure but the voters should know better.

no joke, that’s a straight up insult to Doughty.
