Congrats Dunc..

First to win since Cheli in 1996 and its fitting because he is our best defenseman since..

With the way this day has been going, were about to find out he gets a 1.5 million dollar bonus that counts against the cap next season.

Apparently, no

Someone posted in another thread that performance bonuses are only awarded (or only count against the cap (I can’t remember which)) for entry level contracts and +35 contracts. Dunc obviously doesn’t fall into either of those categories.

Ditto for CNS

by Hack on Jun 23, 2010 8:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Keith will get a Bonus

But it will be from the League for winning the Norris Trophy, not paid by the team and does NOT count against the Cap. Toews also received a League Bonus for the CS of $250,000 in addition to his Entry Level Bonus of $1.3M from the Hawks that does count against the Cap.

As stated Performance Bonuses can only be earned by Entry Level Players, Old Fucks (35+) on Multi-year deals, and Broken Veternas on Multi-year deals (Lots and lots of IR/LTIR and >400 games played). No other performance bonuses are allowed by teams per the CBA.

Not to overshadow those hilarious comments on that picture...

I commented on the last thread, but there’s no fucking way that is Kaner. The hair is way too long, and I think Pat shaves his armpits.

That being said, his antics are starting to piss me off. I have to keep reminding myself that he’s 21, but he’s really putting himself under a microscope with all the off-ice shit he’s pulling.

Maybe Toews has, but I wish someone would tell him there’s a line he shouldn’t cross. I know he’s being a “regular 21 year old”, but the fact is, he’s unique. he has to start realizing that too many people have a cell phone camera and are glad to use it for attention

Nope, never said getting laid was an antic

I was mostly talking about this playboy persona he’s putting out there. Look, he made an ass of himself at the parade (which I was okay with, because it was a fucking Stanley Cup celebration), but it’s time for him to be a little smarter with how he presents himself.

He’s created for himself a nice little “market” as a tabloid spectacle. There are lots of young dudes on this team, and he’s the only one repeatedly in the crosshairs of the media. I’d just rather not have the microscope on him… and judging by the way Sharp was looking at him at the awards show, his teammates might be getting a little sick of it.

I know,

I was more commenting on what spoke said about Toews playoffs’. I think we all thought Toews was a great 2-way player after the regular season, and if anything, I personally think his stock dropped in the playoffs. I know that sounds ridiculous since he was the CS winner, but the casual observer would look at the +/- and think he isn’t that good as a Selke candidate. So yeah, long explanation, but I was really making fun of the way some awards seem to be chosen based on stats rather than actually looking at what other things a player brings to the table

Another Vote of Confidence for Hawk Hockey Ops

Fans of the Hawk… yet another vote that shows our hockey operation is world class. Duncan Keith is a world class talent and teammate. Today’s moves were required because of the cap, will be good for both teams, will give our young talent the opportunity to step up, and will reload with even more picks. Huet to Rockford, Hammer and Anti back on the bus, and one more trade (Verstegg) and we are ready to run it again.

As a whole I found them to be a fuck of a lot better than last year’s. Chaka Khan anyone? Mind you Shinedown and the Goo Goo Dolls weren’t exactly the best of acts but they were far better than anything I say last year … which wasn’t much after Chaka Khan it was ‘hit the power button’ after that. Although, that Cirque-du-Soleil Beetles bit was a train-wreck.

- Ovie waiting for the music to stop so he could finish his speech was pretty funny as was D2K getting cut-off.

- Jay Mohr needs to die. Somewhere.

- Jamie Kennedy needs to watch hockey before he becomes a presenter. Seriously.

- Mark Messier on Sidney Crosby: " I can’t think of a better leader in the game right now than Sid". Really? I can think of one, his name is Jonathan Toews.

- Datsyuk can speak english and crack a joke?

- Jose Thoedore is one classy dude. He may not be a great goaltender but he’s a great guy with a big heart. I was happy to see him win.

- J.R. ripping Milbury and for him to be with Olczyk to present Keith the Norris trophy was awesome. So was Stamkos’ suit.

That’s all I got. And here you thought that with the season over so would be my long posts.

Datsyuk

Two more things.

-Bobby Ryan’s lisp makes Kaner sound like he’s got a PhD in speech pathology, and that whole skit was a lot funnier than I thought it would be.

-I thought the Cirque du Soleil thing was kinda cool, and it’s spelled “The BeAtles”… fucking Canuck.

Kane, Keith named to All-Star team

Link

Notably absent from the All-Star roster: Jonathan Toews. Just who does the Captain have to bribe/ blow/ browbeat to get some respect in this League? He only had the single best season of any NHL player ever (no really, he’s the only one to win Olympic gold, Olympic MVP, Stanley Cup, and Conn Smythe in the same year), landed second in the playoffs in scoring, and made himself the youngest member of the Triple Gold Club. But somehow he doesn’t get an All-Star berth? WTF, I call shenanigans.

by spokeinthebandwagon on Jun 23, 2010 9:44 PM CDT reply actions

Remember this is just for regular season awards, they don’t include the playoffs. That’s why Kane and Keith are on it and not Toews.

I know, but even for the regular season, the guy had an outstanding year.

Sometimes I wonder if Toews gets overshadowed by his willingness to play a supporting role to Kane’s flashiness. Kane makes the team, but the guy who feeds him most of his scoring chances and plays the role of defensively responsible one on that line gets left off. Sidney, OTOH, has no superstar wingers to play with, so the spotlight lands firmly on him.

Sid doesn't play on a line with Malkin that often.

They’re on the same team, but Sidney is first line, Malkin is second line. The theory being that if they spread their scoring they’ll be harder to defend.

I think it also hs to do with the competition. He was up againt Thing 1/2/? who led the league in scoring. The 2nd team center was Crosby, and I would agree Toews is more deserving than Cindy

Nah, I'm just pulling fun facts out of my ass

I think for certain awards, how good the team you are on may affect your likelihood to win the individual award. Dunc acknowledged this in his post-award interview basically saying that all those assists he got are a function of how good the other hawks are. Green is even a better example of that. But I agree with your point. I mean look at Stamkos and Martin St. Louis – both post great numbers during the regular season and Tampa Bay doesn’t even make the playoffs.

Without a doubt the best thing i read all day. Worth it, even if you’re not into tennis.

did you follow any of the live blogs during the Beijing Olympics?

One of the equestrian ones was like watching someone talking to himself in a chat room, with bad grammar and capitalization-fails. The blogger would also make these random side comments about the horse’s name, the rider, and was inept to the point of hilarity.

by ahnfire on Jun 23, 2010 10:52 PM CDT up reply actions

I actually like these live blogs (the bad humor in the Eurosport tennis ones is actually kind of entertaining after a while)… but you have to feel for that one fan who got hired to talk to himself there on an event that probably didn’t get so much coverage.

That’s why I love it here — I write a FanPost to talk to myself and other people go there anyway and talk to me!

fucking useless reply button!

The picture here is of a BC youth hockey team that Brouwer, Ladd, ad Seabrook all played on, which is pretty fucking amazing.

Technology-wise, I’m sorta the anti-CNS, so I dunno how to drop a picture in here. Maybe someone else can.

My point, however, is that, in this picture, we see that the rugged Andrew Ladd was, once upon a time, kind of a pretty boy. Your comment about your ole lady’s crush on him made me think of this.
