Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
I'll always raise my glass to them when Atlanta rolls into town (or rather when the Hawks swoop into Atlanta if i saw the calender right), but loosing Buff, Ben, & Sopes is ultimately a great move for the Hawks as it needed to be done and, quite frankly, finally puts those residing in the realms of the depth charts into a position to show the mettle of their pastures, if you will.
I don't know what the future holds, and we might end up seeing others leave (im not quite convinced we've seen the final strokes of the pen from Stan [and i hope beyond hope Huet is manning a weather tower in Alaska by time the deadline hits] ), but i understand the end result in this most recent trade, including the move of Fraser, and im satisfied with it.
If anything its made me go crazy finding as much as i can about our already current prospects. Three new names (new for me, that is) making me very anxious about training camp are...
Marcus Kruger, Mathis Olimb, & this Jeremy Morin kid everyone is all geeked out about.
Needless to say, I need to see what these kids look like playing hockey and Youtube is happy to oblige in most cases All that i've been able to find on these three is exciting, epsecially this Jeremy Morin (Holy SHIT does this kid have a shot)
If nothing of consequnce happens with these three in training camp, here is just a sampling of what Rockford can expect to see.
Marcus Kruger (32) playing for Djurgargen in 2009/10
Mathis Olimb (46) scoring a penalty shot for Norway in 2010 IIHF WC
Scorin' Jeremy Morin (61) netting two against The Windsor Spitfires back in November of '09
Just imaging being these kids and asked,
"Hey, what are you doing in September? Want to come to Chicago? Try out for the chance to have Stanley Cup Champions Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Marian Hossa as teammates?"
Things are starting to get interesting, people.
LETS GO HAWKS!!!!!!

thanks for looking up the videos hawkynite
although the lack of bolded emphasis makes me think this may be the work of a ghostwriter…anyway, my thoughts on the videos:
- Kruger’s highlights remind me of Bolly, especially at 0:20.
- Olimb’s penalty shot celebration looks rather familiar, yes? (also? love the polar bear fans)
- I found it interesting in Morin’s first video that he apparently picked Taylor Hall’s pocket to get that goal.
Thank you!
or should i say, THANK YOU!
Kruger’s scouting report has me giddy, even tho he along with Olimb will be probably be spending some time in Rockford before seeing time with the big club, unless something amazing happens with these two at camp come September (you never know).
Everything i read and hear about Morin makes me think he might have a chance of cracking the roster once the season starts. Blackhawk’s TVN on NHL.com has an interview with Stan where he states he was originally looking at and really pressing for Morin in last year’s draft but never got him. it will be interesting to see how this all manifests itself.
"Blackhawk fans around the world, you have endured 49 years of frustration but your patience has finally paid off! Lord Stanley's new address is "SWEET HOME CHICAGO"! THE CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS HAVE WON THE STANLEY CUP! THEY'VE WON THE STANLEY CUP! ITS OVER! THEY'VE WON IT! THE CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS ARE STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!!" - John Wiedeman & Troy Murray, June 9th, 2010.
I think Morin will have some AHL time before getting to the NHL
in the long term scheme, he would probably benefit from having some AHL time

OH NO HE DIDN'T!
Good eye on catching that. I read in an earlier post somewhere that Morin’s favorite hockey player (at least current hockey player) is Patrick Kane.
Nice.
Of all the limited stuff i’ve seen of this kid, all can say is:
“Holy crap this kid plays to score goals every shift.”
Check out this extended clip of Kitchener vs Saginaw Game 3 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Morin’s name is mentioned quite frequently!

should be more specific
Game 3 notes
Jeremy Morin scored a bomb for Kitchner’s 1st goal in the 1st Period.
Also notched an assist with a laser centering pass from the boards for The Rangers’ 2nd goal early in the 3rd Period.
Don’t mean to cast aspersions, but this kid seems to be what my father & i say about Kane; “something special”.

Good work looking up the vids
Kruger: I love the very, very swish play he makes at ~30 seconds in. I know it wasn’t against NHL-calibre players, but damn, that was a great goal.
Olimb: I’d like to see more of him before I make a judgement, but that penalty shot was nice.
Morin: As with Ahnfire above me, it’s pretty cool that he stole the puck from Hall. Good shot, hopefully Marian Hossa can help make it even better in the near future.
Is it possible?
I think i’m more excited about next season because of the kids.

Same here
That why I keep saying I’m not worried. We’re going to be pretty stacked with draft picks and prospects because of our cap shedding moves. I’m hoping/expecting next year to be somewhat like 2008-09 with a young exciting team (but now being defending SC Champions!) that develops throughout the year and has potential in the playoffs.
And if their development continues on pace, we should also have some exciting guys coming up in 2-3 years.
Thanks Hawkynite! for putting this together. My first thought, like ahnfire, was that this was ghostwritten. I’m assuming this is your offseason mellow style?

Ditto me on that too.
It will be difficult to pull off the repeat but it sure is nice having one under our belt. As you mentioned, we have a great core and a lot of young prospects and it’s going to be another fun season no matter what happens. I know there is still some cap work to be taken care of and we’ll lose a couple more “friends” from this team, but it’ll still be “our” Blackhawk team when it’s done and it’s going to be a lot of fun. Can’t wait for October.

It's difficult to repeat no matter what
That playoff season is a brutal 2 months. I’m very happy though to have a team that appears able to win the division for the next several years. That’s the amazing part to me, I can say that and it’s not crazy talk.

This observation from a decidedly non-expert source
Obviously based on a very small sample, but watching Morin in these videos I thought he had a very “long” release to his shot. I think he will need to develop a quicker release as he moves up or he could have a problem with many of his shot attempts getting blocked.
(I could be completely full of shit with this observation. Anybody with some real expertise please feel free to confirm or call “bullshit” on my observation.)
Still, very excited about the many young prospects in the pipeline for the Hawks.
Thanks for doing the leg work Hawkynite.
"Life is a long lesson in humility."
- James M. Barrie
from those clips it is possible
but it might also be that – in many circumstances – he holds the puck in firing position until he sees what he wants in the way of a screen or angle/opening
the set we see isn’t conclusive either way – but some tracking of whether he has an elevated blocked shot rate would be informative

I noticed the "long" shot too
What I noticed most was how terrible the goalie looked on Olimb’s penalty shot. I mean, it was a sweet move, but that goalie looked like a monkey fucking a football.

Haha yep
And that does look like that goalie trying to stop Olimb, except that football is going 5-hole.

i’m glad the hawks picked up three americans in exchange for buff, and am very excited to see jeremy morin develop into the next stud out of the national team development program in ann arbor.
IT IS "TAKE ON ME"!
I never noticed that before. HA!
Good pickup, Redhawk88.
I personally love how Olimb leaves his stick stuck in the goalie’s gear before doing his best “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??” celebration to the crowd.
… Man, I am itching for some draft/trade news so all I have to look forward to is our squad going all “HULK SMASH” on the rest of the league come October!

Good point on the "Are you not entertained?!"
Maybe he can fill in for Buff in that department immediately?
Probably was "Take on Me"
A-ha was from Norway like Olimb. Swedes and Norse like to poke fun at each other, so this might have been good-natured ribbing.

The Release
Not quite sure where I saw it at, but that shot isn’t his shot is quicker than what is shown in the clip. I think he was just holding for the right time to release that one. If I remember where I seen his shot at I will let you know.
II Can Finally Die Happy Now!
Mathis went out on a limb with that move
I WILL USE THIS PUN UNTIL IT IS NOTHING BUT A STEAMING PILE OF DECAYING SHIT AND, SINCE IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE THAT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED, I WILL KEEP USING IT UNTIL A FLOWER BLOOMS ON TOP
you're so Eco-friendly, meeshak!
but on a goal like that, i think saying he “went out on a limb” fits Mathis well.
Especially if he keeps using that goal celebration!
