Can't be too mad about the trade
Looks like Stalberg is the best prospect of the bunch, and hockeysfuture projects him as a possible 2nd – 3rd line forward…which is exactly what VERSTEEG! was…
But this was a needed salary dump, and as opposed to the Thrashers, the Leafs actually understood this and probably rewarded us appropriately for our desparate position. One of these guys becomes a 2nd or 3rd line wing, and it’s worth it.
Thanks for your contributions Kris, you’ll always be a man of four feathers…. unless you start rapping again.

Viktor Stalberg: Played 3 seasons at the University of Vermont in Hockey East. Was one of the 10 finalists in 2009 for the Hobey Baker. He is an incredibly fast skater in a large, NHL ready body. Unfortunately, he’s also already 24. In my opinion, Stalberg is not a top-6 winger. He has a very slow release on his shot, and besides his elite speed, the rest of his skills are average or below average.
DiDomenico and Paradis both played in the Q last year. Paradis is a former 1st round pick from 2009 by the Hurricanes. Was traded to Toronto this past season for Jiri Tlusty. DiDomenico played in the 2008 WJC and centered John Tavares. He has put up excellent numbers in the Q, but a horrific broken leg in 2009 caused him to miss almost all of the 09-10 season. Both players are mid-level prospects.

Stalberg’s nickname is Colt 45. He has hands of stone.

Stalberg constantly getting to the net
and missing, apparently? This is my impression from reading PPP.
What are ya gonna do Stig?
I think that’s the most important ramification most of us SCH’ers care about….

I know...
Can I say, identity crisis?
I don’t know yet. Might take me the whole offseason to decide. I think some people suggested I keep it, which might not be a bad idea.
Wait, What?
There’s any reason not to keep it? If there is, then I choose to use a Mythbusters quote… “I reject your reality, and substitute my own.”

I wonder if Stalberg is a project
…or Hjalmarsson’s contract required someone else to film at IKEA.
Stalberg has some upside, someone just needs to teach him how to hit the net.

Watching some vids
…that boy can skate. Wow.
He has a ton of raw ability. Possibly the fastest skater in the NHL (not kidding)… but he isn’t great at controlling the puck down low or being creative at high speeds… He’s actually improving at killing penalties, and tends to create some disturbances defensively by the way he moves his feet and buzzes around. The type of player you could throw with Toews and Kane and he’d use his athleticism to create space. I’d see him maxing out at 55 points, but I predict he will average around 30-40 for his career. Could surprise everyone though and really blossom. He has the tools.
at 6'3' & 210 - could he fill out another 10 to 15 pounds and be the stand in the slot/bang the boards guy
with the speed to make him scary on the forecheck?

Is This It?
Is that enough dumping, or do we need to shed more money yet? I knew after the Cup that we’s lose Buff or Versteeg. I thought that they’d be able to save one.

You needed to do this before tomorrow to fend off poachers trying to sign Niemi/Hjarm/Ladd to offer sheets. Now you’re in a better position to survive that. I think you’ve likely done enough dumping now if you just plop Huet in the minors, assuming the offer sheets aren’t killer. I think Bowman has really handled this situation well, props.
Although the same, as a fan of the team that you constantly beat, I’m happy to see your depth diminish somewhat, no offense!!!!

I think you're right - we needed to drop the salary now to have tagging room for our RFAs
we neded to drop it eventually anyway, I suspect

MM
Money to sign Modano….haha I kid, This is really amazing that Stan was able to dump this much salary in such a short amount of time…
"Mr. Probert, Can you please step out of the car."
WTF
The UFA winger crop is bone dry and nothing exciting so I think we will be looking to Rockford….Maybe this is crazy but could Bickell/Skille, Stahlberg and Beach break camp with the big club.
"Mr. Probert, Can you please step out of the car."
I've liked what I saw of Bickell so far.
Skille might finally get his chance too

I think Beach needs at least a (full or nearly full) AHL season before he's ready
Stalberg may be ready too

Stan has been noticeably silent
with regard to Beach. Mentioned Bickell and Dowell possibly being factors next season but nothing on Beach, so unless he’s a dark horse, I’m thinking AHL for the Beach Boy. Sorry, his name always makes me hum “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.”
