Quick thoughts from Norway

Hey everyone - quick fan post that will be rather throw-away-ish. I'm in Norway with the wife and her family for a vacation and believe it or not, the news that Kyle Beach dismembered one of their countrymen actually was deemed newsworthy. Through the storm cloud of gibberish that is Norwegian Public Radio, they mentioned the Chicago Blackhawks and the premature death of one Mathis Olimb

Adding to the story, we took our son to see the pediatrician today and he happened to be an ice hockey player from Oslo doing some work in my wife's hometown (We're way the fuck up north in Storslett, if anyone wanted to google map it). He said he follows some hockey and when we mentioned we're living in Chicago he brought up the Hawks. He said he'd heard about Olimb and I told him about Kyle Beach and his reputation. He seemed taken aback that they would beat the fuck out of each other in practice but they've been fighting in prospect camp for years if I'm not mistaken. Beach just happens to be Death: Destroyer of Nordmen.

Anyway, he mentioned that he played with Olimb back in the day in Oslo and that he's not nearly one of the better players down there (and that's saying something based on the state of Norwegian hockey). He claimed he was AHL material. I was impressed that he knew what the AHL was and I agreed with him.

In short, I don't know if everyone is worked up about Beach ripping Olimb's body into pieces but the dude isn't very good. I feel bad for Norwegians that care about hockey but other than that it's just something to keep my mind on hockey while we wait for the title defense to begin.

Cheers everyone - continue having an awesome summer.

Go Hawks from Norway!
