Now this is an interesting predicament
I can see it since most of us were giving a collective “what the fuck?” when it was announced, but lets face it, isn’t the Hossa deal almost the same thing?

I can see Hossa playing for 12 years much easier than Kovy for 17. Not that it couldn’t happen, but is it realistic in this NHL?

I think that theres only been a handful that have ever played that long, Cheli, Howe are all I can think of.

I love that they had their huge news conference / coming out party for Kovy
and now he doesn’t even have a contract. Whoops – cart before the horse anyone?

Hossa would be 42
which there is a precedent for (i.e. contracts ending at that age), but Kovy would’ve been 44 at the end of his.
so basically they were just 2 years too greedy

Also, the Kovy contract had 6 years at $.525m at the end
whereas the Hossa contract had 4 years at $1m. Seems much more likely Hossa plays at least a few years into those than Kovy playing 4+ years making $.525m.
That's the issue right there
