3rd Annual Hawks Convention
Is anyone planning to attend the convention? I'm planning to go with my step-dad and sister and thought maybe some of us could meet up at some point for a drink or something and say hello.
I went last year and had a really nice time. I thought the forums were the best part. The Hawks haven't released many details yet, but I know they've changed the autograph session specifics a bit, which I think is a good thing, considering how awful it was last year. (If you weren't there, the lines were RIDICULOUS and very poorly managed.)
Here's what I've found on the Hawks' site so far (yay for copy and paste):
Convention Details

SCRATCH AND WIN Autograph Stage
Every Convention attendee will be given a Scratch and Win card at event registration in the Northeast Hall. If you are a lucky winner, visit the Scratch and Win booth located outside the Northeast Hall to find out which autograph time you have WON! All Scratch and Win Autographs will be located on Stage 5 in the Southwest Hall. The player assigned to each autograph session will be posted 20 minutes prior to the designated signing time.
Scratch and Win Rules & Regulations
- You MUST have a winning ticket from the SCRATCH AND WIN table (located outside of the Northeast Exhibit Hall in the Lower Level ) to enter the SCRATCH AND WIN autograph line.
- Each Scratch and Win card guarantees (1) autograph only.
- Each SCRATCH AND WIN Session will be assigned at the SCRATCH AND WIN TABLE.
- Scratch & Win winners are encouraged to lineup 20 minutes before their designated signing time.
- If you have any questions, feel free to visit the information booth located in the Lower Level Lobby.
General Autographs – Southeast Hall
**NEW THIS YEAR!**
Through the convention weekend, there are four autograph stages setup in the Southeast Hall. Stages 1 through 4 are open to all convention attendees. Exact players and locations will be posted in the Convention program that will be available at event check in at the Northeast Hall.
Rules & Regulations
To enable the greatest number of Convention attendees the opportunity to obtain an autograph, the Blackhawks have implemented an autograph wristband policy.
**NEW THIS YEAR!**
- Fans can obtain wristbands for their designated autograph session in the Southeast Hall.
- A different color wristband will be utilized for each autograph session in the Southeast Hall.
- Fans must have the correct color wristband in order to access the appropriate autograph session
- The number of wristbands distributed for each autograph session will correspond with the number of autographs listed in the program.
- Wristband distribution for future autograph sessions will begin when the line for the previous autograph signing has started.
- Once an attendee receives a wristband, they may not obtain another wristband for an additional autograph session until they have received an autograph from their current signee and a Blackhawks representative has removed their wristband.
- Fans are not permitted to have more than one wristband at one time; those found with more than one wristband at one time will lose all autograph privileges and all wristbands will be removed by a Blackhawks representative. Line Jumping and transferring of wristbands will result in losing all autograph privileges.
So, let me know if anyone's interested in meeting up at some point!

I definitely meant from a me getting hammered and not having to travel very far perspective.
Thanks for pointing out the awkwardness of that statement.

Haha, you’re welcome.
It was made funnier by the fact that I read everything you post in a Tom Waddle voice.

Coming from Seattle...
My wife and I are flying in on Friday. I think we land around 2:30. Can someone tell me: what exactly goes on during the Opening Ceremonies? Is it worth it to bust our asses to get downtown from O’Hare in time for this?
Blubber Fest
I didn’t make the Opening Ceremonies last year – turned away because the room was at capacity – expecting the same for this year!
I’m guessing this year will be pretty crazy w/ the Cup and all !
I will probably be in full-out-flood-blubber mode when that Cup comes out and I see the guys!! Definitely looking forward to it !!
They run a video w/ the highlights from the past year – announce all the ambassadors; team and past players that are making appearances throughout the weekend!!
Soooo
essentially the victory rally at Michigan and Wacker, minus 20 degrees?

If you don't get there
extremely early, you don’t actually get in the room. I think they also show it on Comcast Sportsnet. There’s player introductions and a video. Last year, there were some booths open for shopping. I wouldn’t hustle to get there as you can catch it on TVs outside the ballroom, but that’s just me.

How early
is early? What time would I need to get there to get a spot inside?
I think they let people
inside starting at 3pm, but I’m not for sure on that. That was the time last year that the vendors starting selling stuff too.

So, like, if I got there at 4:00
I would be shut out?
obviously, I can't say for sure
but I would guess that would be the case based on last year.

I'll be there
although I might miss much of Saturday due to a wedding. I don’t know how much stuff I’ll catch but I’ll be there for Friday & Sunday at the very least. Is there a program or at least a schedule of events out yet?
Personally, I don’t care about getting autographs (pictures, sure, but I hate waiting in long lines) so the seminars/Q&As/forums and the swag/vendor booths are what I’m mainly interested in :D
the program was released
a few days before the convention last year. I have been stalking the site, and nothing so far. I personally thought the forums were the absolute best part so that is where you’ll find me for the most part!

Can't wait for Friday
I will be there beginning at noon-ish on Friday along with some of my family and friends. I would love to meet up with everyone.
Last year we got to the opening ceremonies about an hour ahead of time. I plan to get there as soon as the doors open this year since I think it will be more of a “must do” with the Cup and all. It’s also the only time you’ll get to see the entire team in one place. I’m also hoping that some of my favorite Alumni players will be there…
if people are getting drinks in the evening
I will happily hop on a bus to come hang out with people, if it’s not in a badge required area or something.
Go jump in Toews Lake.
Really wish I could make it
But it’s too far for me, hope all of you have fun though!
Chicago Blackhawks = Champs
Let football season begin. GO FALCONS!
I will be there all three days
Unsure who my accompaniment will be on Friday, Sat I’m bringing my Dad down, and Sunday I am taking the rugrat after hockey class.

Say hi
If you see a long haired father wearing a red Cheli sweater with a hyperspastic blond haired midget wearing a Toews jersey it may be me on Friday.
Enjoy all

I may go
looks like tickets may be getting almost reasonable on the secondary market. Otherwise I’d be up for barhopping and flipping over cars one evening for old times’ sake.

Will be there all weekend
Me and the gf would probably be up for drinks after on Friday,
i'll be there friday, probably saturday as well
i have a feeling the event will just be overwhelmed with people. we shall see
i'm in the area for the weekend
but I’m moving Friday so will probably not be around until Saturday. :)
But when it was suggested to him that Toews v. Kane seems likely to become a sidebar to every future international hockey tournament, he smiled and said: "I'd like us to win something together, too." -- 2/28/10, so our Captain has said, and so it was done.
(Tweets @ChiBlackhawks and blogs at Blackhawks Down Low.)
good luck with the move!
I hate moving.

Ok, so it seems
we’re about 50/50 on Friday vs. Saturday. I’m kind of leaning toward Saturday, but I could do Friday as well. There’s that bar in the hotel (Kitty’s I think?), so that would probably make a good meeting spot.
If anyone else has a preference, speak up!!
I'm good with Friday
it doesn’t seem like there’s as many options on Friday except the Opening ceremonies & Second City from 8-9pm. So that’s my vote.
Friday works for me
Maybe we can meet up with folks who are not attending the Convention on Friday and meet up again at the Blackhawks Bash on Saturday night. The only thing that might get in the way is if my Hotel Guest VIP Autograph Session is then.
I have other plans on Saturday evening
But would be thrilled to get together Friday. After the Second City. I really want to see that!
Ok, let's plan for tonight
at the hotel bar, Kitty O’Sheas. After the Second City show at 9? or just gather there as you like?

So is Saturday the day to come? I almost went last year and in 2008 but last minute couldn't go. So I'm not sure about crowds, events, etc
Also, I’d definitely be down for a meet-up at the hotel bar or whatever. I’m the guy that met quite a few of you at Bottom after the parade because I’m an idiot and didn’t realize you guys were there till I had to leave. LOL.

Expect huge crowds
10,000 tickets were sold to the event so there will be at least that many people and the Hilton space sometimes feels tight. Your ticket gets you in all 3 days. The panel schedule is here, I think the panels were the best part last year.
Autographs run the whole time, but they haven’t released a list of who is attending and when they’re signing this year.

Yeah I know tickets have been sold out for a longtime although I think I can get one on Craigslist for cheap closer to Saturday. Panels sounds great though.
