I still can't decide which one is better

I think History Has Been Made was more refined from an editing standpoint, and I wanted that one to be really special, so I guess as it’s creator, I side with that one. The pre season one I just finished is just as good as those two, so now I cant decide out of 3 which I like best

Someone used the palomino

and Meeshak said he thought it was more of a bay (which is a kind of horse).

by stacie7 on Aug 20, 2010 11:58 AM CDT up reply actions

without killing it by explaining it too much,

a bay is a kind of horse, so is a palomino. I’m not quite sure why i find it so hilarious – maybe it was the delivery?

by Katherine215 on Aug 20, 2010 11:59 AM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I understood that part

I dunno, maybe you had to be there. I found out about it in CNS’s fanpost either the next day or a few days later, so that maybe sucked the magic out of it.

by Germware on Aug 20, 2010 12:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't know,

I still crack up reading it. I think it’s just that it was so simple and dry. Maybe CNS can explain better?

by Katherine215 on Aug 20, 2010 12:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, it's probably my favorite all-time comment...

I posted that gruesome photo of the fat guy in panties next to a horse.
cliff stated “pretty sure that’s a palomino” referring to the photo.
Then meeshak replied “it’s more of a bay” referring instead to the horse in the photo.

Subtle, dry, had me in tears.

Seriously, not to sound fucking arrogant, but I’ve been gone way too fucking long.

And honestly? The rest of the “Best Single Comments” were posted on Deadspin like five fucking years ago.

The “Uncle Niemi” one is the only one that deserves even a smidgen of recognition.

Other than that, get fucked, fuck off, and fuck the entire concept of this Fanpost.

The quotes in question

http://www.secondcityhockey.com/2010/5/19/1478450/heres-to-swimmin-with-bow-legged

Meeshak does Hemingway:

Hemingway wouldn’t have had a problem. He would have just written: Hossa won the puck. He passed. Hjalmarsson skated in from the neutral zone and wound up. She cried. There was always death in the air at a hockey game.

ChicoMaki does Twain:

Last night I had occasion to attend a sporting contest in the small farming community of San Jose, an affair of ice hockey that pledged ungodly skill and inhuman speeds and which did not disappoint in its promise. One scene in particular impressed; indeed, the mastery of the visiting squad silenced the home crowd often, and in pockets of especial despair, which were many, I spotted tears and piteous confusion of a scale reserved usually for large lost armies. Where at one point in the competition the home team—Sharks of some sort—had recovered some momentum, a single large panda sped into one end of the rink as a freight train might were it outfitted with a hundred thousand ice skates; this panda fought for the puck and in battle made his opposite number appear to be made from so much toilet tissue. He gained possession of this puck and directed it away from the net to a many-lettered teammate who, in his own turn, shot it toward the net. I say shot; verily, it was a rifle ball. I have only space enough to add: against the assault of desperate pandas nothing can stand.

Well, since you forced me, Chi and I wrote songs right after that too, not sure what thread it was in, but I liked Chi’s (Chi please step forward and provide us with the linky you’ve been dying to post since I am officially nominating you ;)

And how about some stuff for the written fanpost section. Is this the BigC one party system??

it says a lot about my time with SCH

that I don’t even remember half the shit I put up here. What songs? Whu? I don’t even remembe— oh wait. Shit. I remember.

Toxic:

Niemi, can’t you see?
I need a goalie like you
Should wear a warning
It’s dangerous, I’m fallin’

And then You Light Up My Life Lamp:

So many nights I’m up on 300
Waiting for someone to score me a goal
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the UC til
You came along

You light up my lamp
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with goals

And the CNS did this in the same thread:

Hotel SCH

So I called up "the Captain",
please make June fun,
He said, we haven’t had that trophy here since nineteen sixty one
And still those naysayers are typing from not far away,
Keeps me up in the middle of the night
Just to reply with ‘a’…

Welcome to the hotel SCH yeah
Such a friendly place
Your opinion effaced
They typin’ it up at the hotel SCH yeah

The Blackhawks Prayer

(I posted this only 3 times) Before Game 6 vs. the Canuckians, before Game 4 vs the Fishies, and before Game 6 vs Chrissy Pronger got beat again, it seemed to work out well

For Our Banners in the Rafters,
Hockey be our game,
Our time has come,
it will be done,
as in ’34, ’38, and ‘61.
Give us today our series win.
Forgive us our penalties
as we punish those who penalty against us.
Lead us not to just winning
But to make it a decisive kill.
For all of the Glory, the Prestige and the Eternal Enshrinement,
For us and the fans forever.
Game On

After Kaner buried the dagger into Philly and lifted Chicago, I posted this one.

To Our Banners in the Rafters,
You number has increased by one,
Our time has come,
it has been be done,
as in ’34, ’38, and ‘61.
We have forgiven our foes.
For the Stanley Cup is ours
Toews Lead us not to just winning
But made it a decisive kill.
For all of the Glory, the Prestige and the Eternal Enshrinement,
For us and the fans forever.

by Roos-34 on Aug 20, 2010 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Being a left handed shot,

I don’t think being right handed really has anything to do with Hockey. There was a post and an article earlier this year about lefty vs.righty shots. Canadians are predominantly left handed shots while the U.S. is right handed. My theory on this is that most U.S. kids play Baseball before they play Hockey and are already set in their ways. One other observation, most goalies are right handed and catch with their left hand. By default this makes them left handed shots.

this comment comes off as asshole-like considering Katherine was still just expounding on her point. Then she makes a snarky response with devolves with you calling her “kitty-kat”.

I would’ve ignored this entire stupid conversation, but now that you had to go and call her a cunt, I’m going to side with her and say you’re being an asshole.

First off,

why can she call me a dick first, yet I can’t respond by calling her the female version of a body part?

Secondly, in my circle “kitty-kat” is actually a compliment implying a pretty lady and that was how I was using it.( I even put a fukkn smiley face after it???)

You guys can have your site I am way too old for this shit.

by Friedrich on Aug 25, 2010 3:47 PM CDT up reply actions

well...

calling a guy is dick is nowhere close to the same as calling a girl a C***, fair or not its not comparable. plus big sis is always very short tempered she gets it from mom, so i wouldn’t take it to heart. i mean she tells me that shes gonna kill me pretty much daily, but we still somehow get along and i’m not dead yet..

by soupy's spin-o-rama on Aug 25, 2010 4:15 PM CDT up reply actions

well, it's my opinion

but mostly because the female version has a much more derisive connotation than calling someone a dick. (I’m pretty positive we’ve had this discussion on the site before…) It’s one of those words that aren’t really used on this site, along with homophobic slurs.

and as for “kitty-kat” meaning “pretty lady” in your circle – that’s fine. but how are we supposed to know that’s a compliment since 1) you don’t really know Katherine & vice-versa and 2) would you have referred to another female as kitty-kat? Perhaps- but here it just sounds like you were playing off Katherine’s name, so calling her that comes off as patronizing, even with the smiley face.

by ahnfire on Aug 25, 2010 4:11 PM CDT up reply actions

and yes....

we have had this convo before, it was the same time we had the homophobic slur convo, and i believe there was another type we talked about… i believe it might of been women sports

Now that is Irony

I just reply failed.

What I was going to say is, for what it is worth I apologize for my striking back with that word. I really wasn’t playing off her name but at least I now understand why the confusion.
BUT, I still feel that you can not say one form of name calling is worse than another; it all depends on what that specific word means to that person.

Things just don’t translate well through posts.

by Friedrich on Aug 25, 2010 4:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Allow me to opine
in my circle

This is not your circle. In my world some things that are accepted just do not jive here. You can call someone a pussy (if they deserve it, or are SCUM fans) or an Asshole (Like CNS), but some things just do not fly in “This” circle (I learned this from experience). Really is it too much to ask, or for others to state, calling someone a cunt is not appreciated.

Great in your real world click Kitty-Kat means something else, good for you. In mine, I have terms that would not be taken right here. If you want to have a spat, have fun, just try to watch the line. Really this is all to have fun being a Hawks fan and make fun of SCUM, Bluesers, and White Sox fans. Lets just try to keep it enjoyable for all, shall we?

What is your definition of a “pussy” vs. a “cunt”?

How is calling someone a body part that shit comes out of ok?

What is the point of telling me “this is not your circle” when I never claimed it was? I appreciate the information though.

“Good for you”? Is that not condescending?

You may have meant kitty-kat nicely; I doubt that, but you can certainly say it was the case. Regardless, without you explaining the meaning, it came off as asshole-ish and condescending, hence my response.

Left Hand is usually very good. If you ever find their “Good Juju” get it… it goes great with Asian food.

Went to the Oak Park Microbrew fest last Saturday and had some wonderful beers, though to be honest I was pretty drunk after an hour or so. Some of the standouts were Metropolitan Brewery and Flossmoor Station.

i've decided i haven't done near-enough craft brew tasting this summer

and just told my friends that before i die (though preferably within the next year), I want to drag some of them on a Brewery Tour Road Trip of the upper midwest.

my favorite local microbreweries (from what I've had)

are Three Floyds and Half Acre. Half Acre’s Daisy Cutter, that’s the goods right there.

Three Floyds really specializes in pales, IPAs, and other hoppy beers, but they make some killer stouts too. The Black Sun Stout and the Moloko Milk Stout are top notch.

I like Two Brothers a lot

Domain Dupage is a classic, and Hopjuice is pretty awesome if you can find it.

D'oh!

How could I forget…

I’ll blame it on the price, which has kept me from buying it for quite some time. For that price, I’m usually just going to drink Arrogant Bastard.

Note to Self

Do not confuse “Raging” with “Ragging”. It really does change the whole context of what you think you are reading, and what you think others are drinking!

Goose Island 312

All I drank during the finals. And that worked out okay.

Though I’ll give a second nomination for “Whatever was in my fridge and would calm my nerves for another period” as well.

Serious Question

When do we no longer refer to the Stanley Cup by its proper name when the Men of Four Feathers start to defend it, and once again try to raise the Big Shinny Thing/Noble 35 pound Drinking Chalice?

I believe we can still call it by its given name until the playoffs start

Buy I’m thinking the Hockey God needs to cross check the Baseball God until he gets his shit straight regarding my Baseball team.

so instead I’ll be watching the Cubs today.

If it worked that way for me, the Cubs would have 90-100 wins by now.

Hell that would not have lost until after Kaner buried The Goal in Philly!

How about a category for

superstition performed while watching last years playoffs and Stanley Cup Finals.

MIne was chewing on a toothpick(saved the last one from the championship game), sat in same seat with remotes facing certain direction while wearing a Blackhawk long sleeve t-shirt( I would switch between my grey one and my black one with the #5 and Konroyd’s name on it depending on if they lost the game before.)

I drank Miller lite the first post season game they won

so I was stuck with that as Game Day beer for the entire playoffs. That and I did not wear socks at all during the playoffs

Updated, finally!

ok, so I’m going to issue a last call for nominees for all the categories. We’ve had lots of good stuff, let’s make sure it’s all on here! Then I will put together a survey for everyone to take once we finish the nominees.

by Katherine215 on Aug 22, 2010 9:15 PM CDT reply actions

PROBLEM

I can’t find a free survey site that allows more than 10 questions. Suggestions?? Someone could pay, but I am not that someone. I’ll do the labor, though.

I’m sort of stuck until I find a site, as I just wasted a good hour on a site that I discovered only allows 10 after I tried to enter question 11. dumb dumb dumb.

by Katherine215 on Aug 26, 2010 11:26 PM CDT reply actions

I saw this site and it allows 20 questions - not sure if reliable

survey site

How would you like a job where, every time you make a mistake, a big red light goes on and 18,000 people boo?

Just realized it is only good for 10 days and up to 50 responses, so probably not worth it.

by stacie7 on Aug 26, 2010 11:46 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah, it seems to be

you get more questions, but fewer responses, or fewer questions but more responses. We need both!

by Katherine215 on Aug 27, 2010 9:12 AM CDT up reply actions

can you make multiple surveys with one account?

otherwise I’d be willing to create a survey with the next 10 questions. Of course, you’d need more people to finish the rest of the survey. Final alternative is that you can do voting on 10 categories at a time, I guess?

by ahnfire on Aug 27, 2010 12:53 AM CDT up reply actions

I think you can

or I can just create a couple accounts. I’ll save that as a last resort and see if anyone knows of another site.

Does anyone know anything about using Google forms? that was another option I found, but I wasn’t sure if i could send a link to the survey…

by Katherine215 on Aug 27, 2010 9:14 AM CDT up reply actions

I think you can link to the survey from Google Forms

but I haven’t played around with it often enough to know for sure.
