Stan Bowman Speaks
Earlier today Stan Bowman spoke with the pied piper of Hawks Meatballs everywhere, Dan McNeil, on 670 The Score. While there's not a lot of analysis in there that we haven't already gone over, as the next hockey thought that McNeil has that doesn't aggrandize himself will be the first, Stan does give hints at the opening night roster, and alludes to the fact that they've basically agreed to terms with Jordan Hendry but are just waiting for some of this debris to settle, and leaves open the possibility of John Madden returning, though I'd venture to guess that chance is beyond slim. McNeil is a tool
but give him props for getting Bowman – GM of the year this summer. Handled a real mess as best as could have been expected. Would have been nice to have signed Niemi, but given the last – best offer pre arbitration was probably better than anything Niemi will sign this year, failure can only be blamed on Niemi and his agent.
Madden's agent is Zito
I think the chance of him resigning are beyond slim, more like skeletal.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene."
Is there somewhere you can see who players' agents are?
I see it's "no criminal record" night at the ballpark -- billyok before a game against the A's

Stan specifically mentions it in the interview
I’m sure there’s a resource or two out there for that, but I couldn’t tell you specifics.

I don’t think there’s a list of players and their agents.. however most agencies will list clients on their websites. You can actually find a good number on Wikipedia too.
Just for kicks.. Zito also represents Wisniewski, Tuomo Ruutu and Burish.

count me in the camp that doesn’t care if Madden returns or not. I like him quite a bit, but not if the contract is >$1mil, which I’m sure he’s worth at his consistency and experience.
His consistency on the PK was all I needed. I mean Jeff Taffe is taking his spot…thats enough to make me miss Madden.

As some have suggested in prior threads, Dowell will be on that 4th line center. Of course barring any injuries then we might see him. (jinx salt has been thrown)

We need a caption contest
for this pic of Bowman. Not that the existing caption isn’t good, but i feel the pic has so much more potential.
To me, he looks like he just wrote in crayon all over a white wall and is thinking “Uh-Oh, Mommy just found out what i did….”

Is it just me
or does StanBow look like a complete tool in every single picture you’ve ever seen of him? I’m not saying he isn’t smart – he made some great trades & tough decisions – but he looks like a stupid fanny.
YES!
this is my main problem with him. He looks and sounds (his voice, not his words, though sometimes they’re dumb too) like an idiot! Or, a stupid fanny, which I’ve never heard before. :)
having said that,
and with my appreciation for Sharp’s face so well known, I feel the need to state that I’m not a superficial fool obsessed only with looks. Just so we’re all clear on that.
That's good
Because I don’t look very Scottish. I’d hate for it to no longer be part of my identity on here.
Caveat!
What you think fanny means probably isn’t the same as Germware.

One of my favourite things about American English is when people are talking to kids and use the word “fanny.” Oh, if only they knew the other meaning…
that one kills me every time
I was warned several times against using the term when i was getting ready for my first trip to the UK, b/c you know, teenagers rarely pay attention to what they say. Though to be fair, i believe they call them “Bum Bags” in the UK.

Bores and Berstein are some of the most arrogant motherfuckers walking around. Berstein is bad but Bores is the absolute worst.
They used to treat all the hockey calls like shit too. Only when it became impossible to avoid talking about the Hawks did they start.

Dear Blogosphere, can we talk?
You know I love you, but sometimes I wonder what you’re smoking. On this radio show, I wonder who your dealer is. Because I want some. (Click the most recent podcastf, Aug. 2.) I’ve heard a whole lot of Byfuglien love lately. As in Buff suddenly becomes ‘the guy the Hawks will miss most’ or ‘Buff is the guy the Hawks don’t have a replacement for’.
Are we watching the same team?
Are we watching the same hockey league?
These are guys from FifthFeather, who I usually respect, but. Oh, BUT. Buff was the dude who never showed up for 82 games a year. Buff was the one we couldn’t count on in the playoffs because he never knew his job. Yes he could play defense and forward and that’s a nice luxury, but he rarely did either well until he was hooked up with Daydream Nation. Newsflash: a lot of guys start looking like All-Stars when you hook them up with Toews and Kane. Toews and Kane are seemingly a magic bullet for at least 20 goals a year, and rightfully so. I just don’t get where people are coming from here.
Later in the podcast, they compare Campbell to Chelios (WHAT? Not even the same purpose or skill-set!), and assert that there were no roster battles in training camp last year (AHEM. GOALIES. Niemi? Crawford? Remember them?)
Seriously? Who thinks these things? Apparently I just don’t understand people.

For a third party point of view on Turco vs Niemi, here are the GVT numbers. Turco and Niemi were the 16th and 18th highest rated goalies for the year. So both were in the second half of the league performance wise but in the top part of the lower half. Can you say “fair to middlin…”

Completely off topic
but a stick-tap to Adam Jahns for a surprisingly level-headed article in today’s Sun-Times. Explained why the off-season moves needed to be made to talk the sky-is-falling crowd off the ledge.
A well-thought-out hockey article from a Chicago scribe. Imagine that!
Beer. Now there's a temporary solution.
Kuc was on the local PBS station tonight, and said something similar
But what he said about which player the Hawks would miss the most, he pointed to Ladd – not only for his energy, experience, willingness to do whatever is needed, excellent two – way player, etc…but even more for his locker room presence. Reiterated how tight the team was last year, particularly on the road – talked to Kane about all of the departures, and the kid sounded really hurt about losing so many of his close friends. Welcome to the hard reality of the cap, Patrick – that sounded really sad to me, we forget how young both he and Toews are (well, maybe only with Toews). Guess they’re growing up even more quickly than they thought they’d have to.
After reading Jesse Rogers' blog today,
I am more impressed by the reporting of Kuc and Jahns. I think they’ve both done a great job of being factual and not rumor-mongering or letting their personal feelings get into their reporting.

The shit they throw on that site and Jesse’s blog. more often than not, awful.
Jahns seems to be doing well. Sassone is good. Kuc, alright I suppose. He of no opinions. He gets high marks at least for his pic on his twitter of him creeping over Iginla’s shoulder. hilarious.
"...can i have a glass of whiskey and a slice of bread?"
I've never seen Zito
but I wouldn’t be surprised if he showed up and was the spitting image of Jesse Rogers
But when it was suggested to him that Toews v. Kane seems likely to become a sidebar to every future international hockey tournament, he smiled and said: "I'd like us to win something together, too." -- 2/28/10, so our Captain has said, and so it was done.

Alvin Chang had been writing some pretty sensible stuff on ESPN
But he’s clearly spending too much time around LeBrun, Burnside, and Barnaby lately. This if from today:
The Chicago Blackhawks signed 2006 first-rounder Igor Makarov on Tuesday, ESPN Chicago reports. Something like this was to be expected, since GM Stan Bowman said he would add a defenseman.
But is there one more signing in store for the Hawks? Right now, they have six defensemen on the roster — enough to fill out three pairings. But in case of injury, the Hawks might try to add one more d-man.
One intriguing candidate is Jordan Hendry, the Hawks’ own restricted free agent. The 26-year-old made $625,000 last season and, if the Hawks carry a pared down roster, Hendry could come into use because he’s been used both as a forward and defenseman.
Ya think, Alvin?

[repost] Rockford just got some new neighbors.
I was so preoccupied with all the goalie nonsense that it became so easy not to notice, but according to Hockeyfights.com as well as The 300 Level The Rockford IceHogs signed Zack Torquato, Andy Bohmbach, and Scott Fletcher to AHL/ECHL Contracts.
Torquato (21 yrs old, 6’0" 195lbs) is the real standout amongst this group. He was a former SCUM prospect drafted in 2007 and had been most recently playing for The Erie Otters of the OHL. Apparently he wasn’t progressing as fast as the experts in Detoilet were hoping and let him go before the start of the ‘09-’10 season.
After SCUM released him, however, Turquato decided to surpass his previous season’s point total by 30 points the following year, recording 31 Goals & 62 Assists amassing for 93 Pts in 68 Games. He then notched 3 Pts in 4 Playoff Games for Erie.
He’s seen limited AHL time in Grand Rapids and for the moment Turquato seems, much like Bohmbach, and Fletcher, destined to help fill the void created when the assumed Rockford "Newbies" join the big club (Skille, Dowell, Bickell, et all).
I can only take this, for now, that it means if there are any holes left to fill for Stan, unless its for an experienced PK/Shot-Blocking Machine D-man, they’ll be plugged up by the best our development systems can provide. Thankfully our development systems and wealth of prospects makes me feel a little more at ease for this type of situation.
So we’ve got that going for us, which is nice.
"It's The Chicago Blackhawks, man." ~ Jeremy Roenick, June 9th, 2010.
I am TOTALLY digging this Detroit / Chicago rivalry
It’s a bold statement by both teams with a way long overlooked rivalry nobody ever talks about, you should hate them..we helped them win many Stanley Cups. For awhile we were sold out by an owner worse than Bill Wirtz. That was back in the late 40’s and early 50’s. The Red Wings had an insider with the Blackhawks that would draft a player from the last place team, the Hawks were the last place team. The hawks last Stanley Cup came against Detroit in 1961, exacting a little revenge . But later, Detroit as Chicago struggled for years after that, Chicago came a lot closer than Detroit did. Until..Detroit got a new owner. They won a few cups. They hired a few good fellas.
Look what happened in Chicago, to our beloved Blackhawks after we changed owners. We won the cup! Because we hired a few good fellas. Yeah, we overspent to do it, but we won it, and what’s really nice is that we raided Detroit to do it, I will call it a nice payback. Hossa holding the cup, really put us over the top.
The one problem I have with the Hawks Vs. Wings fans is that Blackhawk fans need to jump on the bandwagon a little deeper and look at how far this rivalry goes back. This latest thing isn’t new. We go back just a deep as Montreal and Boston, we just weren’t as good back then. Those teams just took the headlines. And that is no disrespect to the teams post 1967. I really the direction this rivalry has taken.
