I've noticed that the 'Confidence' Fanpoll is dipping badly..

Let's get realistic about the upcoming season: yes, we've lost players we'd rather not have and haven't really signed anyone that great, but the core of a Cup-winning side is still intact. Alright, we don't have a direct replacement for Big Buff but he only shone in the playoffs.., Andrew Ladd will be missed.. but we had to do that while the Hammer/Niemi thing was on and our favourite taciturn Finnish netminder: well, he had an awesome post-season (I've recently reviewed the highlights) but the cap means we've got to bite that bullet. And Turco behind Seabs and Keith will be just fine.

So, cheer up, 'Hawks fans: we've still got Toews, Kane, Seabrook, Campbell, Keith, Hjalrmsson, Bolland and Hossa..

And which team in the NHL wouldn't beg for that line up of Champions?

Back to back?

I’ve been voting at a 90 every poll, because we just won the Cup. I’ve gone to the SBNation homepage, and we’ve got a lower rating than the Sox and the Bulls for cryin’ out loud!

The bulls will be contenders in the near future. They’ve got some skill, and most importantly, Derrick Rose.

So that gives them, a team that hasn't won a championship in over a decade, a higher score then a team that just won one?

No, I’m more confident in the Hawks than the Bulls by a long shot, but can understand why some are more confident in the Bulls. They’re wrong, but understandable.

Expectations.

Hawks are very high right now. Bulls, not quite as much. I think people are voting in the confidence they have in each respective team fulfilling their expectations. Hawks just won the cup, and they’re the best. Fans want them to do it again. The Bulls are young and have promise. The fans want them to hopefully live up to some of that promise soon. Hawks fans are like a student that won’t be satisfied with an A minus.

The Bulls will be contenders, so will the Bears, the Sox and the Cubs… will be the Cubs…
On the Hockey front I’d rather be a ‘Hawk than a Cap or a Hab heading into this season. We’re gonna be OK folks!

You think our cap situation is bad......

Look at the Flames. They are at the point where they would welcome bags of pucks for some of their guys. And oh yeah, they didn’t make the playoffs. The Hawks are still in a good place, and with the signing of Turco and now Boynton at a discount rate, things are looking better and better. Now is the time to bring the young kids up to fill out the bottom lines. Those EL contracts are what make it possible to fit a decent team under the cap.
