Wait, let me get this straight

you actively support a team that has failed for 3 generations, blames goats, cats, and a random fan for its misfortune, and proudly embraces a moniker of “lovable losers”-and your final “argument” for your teams superiority is a hot girl wearing a Cubs jersey? Don’t you think your focuses are a little off base…wait, never mind, you’re a Cubs fan, I guess I wouldn’t want to think about actual baseball either if I were you.

by puppetmasterp on Sep 5, 2010 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions

No, every time I get into an argument concerning the Cubs/Sox

inevitably the Cub argument is “hotter girls are Cubs fans”. Of course they support the Cubs, most hot girls are fucking morons, I should know, they are the type of girl I tend to date (and I have horrible taste in women). It serves to actually prove my original point. I guess that argument has just become a pet peeve of mine over the years. Sorry, CNS, if I was abrasive

by BigCSouthside on Sep 5, 2010 1:25 PM CDT up reply actions

No prob. Didn't take it that way

I don’t think it would be possible for anyone to offend me regarding the Cubs. But what other argument do I really have aside from hotter chicks?? At least this year I cut back on my baseball viewing by 162 games. Wasn’t gonna let the Cubs ruin my summer of celebration.

Yes, I’m a Cubs fan. No, I have no defense for it. Most Sox fans would have no defense either if it wasn’t for 2005’s improbable playoff run. I wish it would’ve been the Cubs, but at least somebody ended the futility of baseball in Chicago. I’m not a Sox hater, but I didn’t get any joy from their WS victory either. This is all just banter for me, as are most topics.

-CNSeriously??

Lord Stanley's new address: Sweet Home Chicago!

by ChicagoNativeSon on Sep 5, 2010 2:08 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not sure it was "improbable"

I’m going entirely by memory here (which is pretty dangerous, trust me), but IIRC, they were in first place almost the entire year, swept the Red Sox, lost 1 vs the Angels, then swept the Astros. I think in the Angels series, they had 4 complete games in a row from their starting pitchers. They had timely hitting and mainly excellent fielding.

I think that you can say that they did not win the WS by luck.

by hawkeytalk on Sep 5, 2010 2:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Personally I wouldnt mind

if the Cubs won, or at least went to the series, it would be exciting for Chicago, I’d consider going back to watch, cuz lets face it to quote Mac from Always Sunny “I’m not missing this riot, bro”

Scrape away the beer garden, and despite the painful suckitude, you still have more serious Cub fans than Sox fans.

again, very nice job. thank you.

agree on most of the SCH winners, less so on the Hawks, but that’s life and it’s all good.

A bit bummed about the zinger category, because, deep in my black soul, I wanted CNS shut out of non-CNS-only categories.

I for one am thrilled that now I can officially point to “so, you girls like hockey?” as the one redeeming thing if contributed to this sight (sharing the credit with ahnfire, of course. and the idiot at the bar who said the line).

Agreed

I sure as shit would not have taken the responsibility to do this. It was fun, some surprises and some no brainers, I was surprised that “panda” was the best SCH nickname for a player. That gameday beer category was dismal.

so yeah, thanks and stuff, have fun painting

Calling Hossa Panda started before he was a Hawk

The fact that it stuck after he signed is what makes it hilarious.

wasn't it right here at SCH?

ater the Pens beat SCUM two years ago, someone slapped a picture up of a bearded, dejected Hossa, and someone observed the resemblence to a ‘sad panda’. mebbe he had a ‘panda’ nickname prior to then, but I’m unaware of it.

I don’t think it’s a great nickname, because of this background and (steely-eyed glint) pandas are kinda hapless and quite possibly doomed, holding a short evolutionary stick of bamboo so to speak..

But, i’ve found that few things are funnier in this world than panda pictures, so i’ve made my peace iwth it.

It was after we beat Detroit in the WCF last year in Game 3

In the top half of the picture below (thanks, ahnfire!), he looks like a “sad panda” & hence panda stuck after he signed with us.
