re: SCUM, i posted this last night in yesterday's links
it’s a good story with a happy ending:
let’s pause here and reflect on a SCUM team that killed off a minute+ 5-on-3 with five minutes to go, clinging to a 1-0 lead.
Koivu scores on a redirect in the final minute. Aw. Sad Joe Louis Arena.
In OT, Wild has 4-on-3. Puck heads toward right halfboard. Koivu has position on Kronwall. Before he gets to the puck, he comes up short, in effect checking Kronwall (right behind him) onto his ass and out of the play. Now it’s 4-on-2. O, the indignation, the sheer tinfoilness, of the crowd at the Joe. But it only lasts for two seconds, because…
Koivu walks right to the high slot and hits Setuguchi for the winner. Kronwall still on his ass.
Disbelief, momentary stunned silence, then the second wave of tinfoil.
Delicious.
I bet WIIM was fun last night.
We like our people!
I like your writing
I saw the highlights last night. Kronwall lit someone up and the crowd and Scum announcers were all like KRONWALL!! In the very next highlight, Kronwall got Kronwalled by…. Saku Koivu??? Yes, that Saku Koivu, who as you said, walttzed into the high slot and helped extend the losing streak . Wing fans were indignant. I was pleased.
Hah!
you beat me to the punch, Jule’s.
Mikko is about 5 notches above Saku. I just picked him up in my fantasy League. Someone dropped him for some unkown reason – even though I couldn’t plug him in for at least aweek, I grabbed him immediately. Last night was his debut – a rather auspicious one I might add. The guy is a beast – I had to laugh at CK’s description of “Kronwalled” still sitting on the ice when Koivu set up Setoguchi, guchi, goo. As i used to say when I’d slam on some pathetic guard trying to prevent me from going to the hole, “Face!”
1 goal, 1 assist, 1 pp point, a Scum loss and Kronwall reduced to watching it all on his fat ass – it don’t get no better
The Red Wings just dropped all 4 points of a home and home with the Wild....against the Minnesota backup goaltender.
Very stupid late penalty by Johan Franzen.

Gotta love the tin-foil hat crowd there in Detroit
who are all crying foul about how that was a penalty, and who now think that Koivu is going to be hearing from the Shanahammer because that was “clearly a head shot”. Nevermind the fact that they’ve scored just 5 goals total during their 5 game skid, or the fact that they couldn’t pot more than 1 against Minnesota’s back-up goalie after failing to register a single goal against him on Saturday, or that they held the lead for the vast majority of the game before allowing Koivu to knot the game-tying tally with just a minute left, or that Franzen’s incredibly boneheaded goalie interference penalty is what really cost them the game – nope it’s just all one big conspiracy. I know that around these parts there are several teams atop different people’s shit lists – some people hate St. Louis above all others, while Vancoufire has moved to the top of many others’ lists. Now yes, last season had the Scum defeated the Sharks in the WC semis I would have likely rooted from them over the Cannots, but that was really a one-time only deal. Being that I was a child of the ’90’s, the only team in all of sports that I hate more than the Scum is the Packers so there is little more satisfying IMO than watching them struggle as their conspiracy-theory inclined fan base looks everywhere but at the actual team to find answers.

funniest part is their announcers
who basically say that Koivu was making a deliberate act, or something. All you see is that he felt Kronwall coming into his backside, stood up and shrugged his shoulders, and Kronwall goes flying to the ice. If that’s a penalty, then the NHL should close up shot immediately. Hey, let’s make it like flag football, right, you Bertuzzi – loving syncophants.

“If that’s a penalty, then the NHL should shut up shot immediately.” – another gem
In the article it said Kromwalled needed to be helped off the ice. Why do I not feel any love for that man?
Because he's an asshat?
Funny story – a while back a few Red Wings fans made a video called “Kronwalled” Link where random people were getting “Kronwalled” in non-hockey situations. For some reason the Wings fans got all pissy with me when I made the comment that the hits shown were indeed perfect examples of Kronwalling – many hits were from behind, almost all involved an elbow coming up, and all of the hitees were caught completely off-guard since they didn’t have the puck and were nowhere near any hockey action

Let me guess,
you were watching the Detroit feed?
strangely enough
I don’t think they had an issue with the play.
The initial reaction post on WIIM though, and the subsequent thread at hockey wilderness were fun to watch.
JJ’s position is that Koivu didn’t have the puck, therefore the play is interference. It’s an interesting and defensible position, he’s just very enthusiastic about defending it.
As for Setoguchi and Howard, well, goalie interference is an understandably touchy subject over there. For my money, I don’t think Seto was ever in the crease, and the ref IS watching, so he misses the Koivu hit.
For me personally, neither play is a penalty, I understand how gutted they feel, but I still feel some healthy schadenfreude.

Kelly Chase has been suspended by Brendan Shannahan for 7 days for causing concussions due to the outfit he had on last night. Former NHL enforcer who spent most of his career banging heads for the blues, (go figure), made Don Cherry look like Hugo Boss in his appearance of NHL on the Fly last night.
Said Shannahan, “His attire is clearly the type of random selection of mismatched clothes that we are trying to eliminate from the broadcast booth” Shannahan speaking with clear disdain in his quivering voivce said, “There were three pieces of clothing that were traumatizing the fans who were tuned in-none of them matched.” He added “I shudder to think what kind of pants he had on.”
Shannahan said further clampdowns on fashion disasters will continue, and he is near reaching a decision to suspend Cherry. Apparently the only thing stopping him is a couple of gay fashion designers who think Cherry may actually be on to something.
“look how the pink pulls out the mauve in that suit,” said one advisor.
Regardless, Shannahan vows a crackdown on bad ties immediately. “We have standards we need to keep up – back to basics.”

He could go down as a player, being one of the better players in our League never to win anything. So what he should do is just shut up. It was uncalled for, it was classless, and I’ve never had it happen like that before.”
I agree with him completely. Way to go, Classless Joe.

I don't recall anyone mentioning Bolland in the GDT
I certainly didn’t see it, but in retrospect, its the 2nd most important development in the play. I suspect Rinne was also surprised at a his suddenly-floundering defenseman and that uncertainty was enough to throw him off his head-standing. Here’s the thing: it was obviously intentional and illegal. If it happened against us, imagine Burroughs doing it, we’d be screaming bloody murder.

I try to watch him as much as I can. His goofy stuff just kills me, and lots of time it takes place away from the puck, behind the play. FWIW
and I know this won’t make me popular, I thought Bolland had two bad games this weekend. He had an excellent shortie on a breakaway, but all those god awful penalties and he didn’t seem to be moving his feet like he usually does. And he drew one penalty which looked like a bad dive to me, which I don’t care for, from any team.
Hopefully he picks it up, especially with his old friends from Vancouver visiting this weekend.
He's just getting caught
I get what you mean, and you never want to put your team down a man, but for every penalty he takes he seems to get away with something. That Bickell goal likely doesn’t happen without Bolland tripping Klein. Sure, he coud’ve received a penalty there as well, but that’s the risk of playing on the edge. That said, he might need to reign it in a bit.

Florida would have made the most sense....but beat writers have not indicated that Emery will go.
So far, the Hawks have played Ray Emery against terrible teams. Tampa Bay and Vancouver are not terrible teams by any stretch.
www.cheertheanthem.com
I agree for a couple of reasons.
1) The consensus seems to be that Emery’s biggest weakness is moving laterally and covering post to post. Tampa and Vancouver probably exploit that weakness more than Florida.
2) Given all the ex-Hawks on Florida they might have a better line on how to attack Crawford and pass that knowledge on to their teammates. Their unfamiliarity with Emery might give them a moments pause when figuring the best way to go at him.
"Against logic there is no armor like ignorance."
- Laurence J. Peter
Agree on both points.
I know Tampa is below Florida in the standings, what whose offense is better? Obviously Tampa. The Hawks have been using Emery against soft teams. Therefore, I conclude that Crawford is going all weekend.

The easiest way to cure the PP is to run the same offense as 5v5
They score 5v5, so why not just do the same thing? Roll any of top three lines and any of the top 2 D lines. Teams can’t match up against them very well 5v5 and 5v4 somebody is always open. Forget the umbrella, overload, etc. Just move the puck and wait for the mistake that always comes.
Hold My Stones
The easiest way to cure the PP is to go up against a PK led by Tomas Kopecky.
Im going to do a post later today on Cheer the Anthem talking about this so I don’t want to get all that into it. But I think tomorrow night will be the breakout night for the PP.

Are you a Cubs fan?
I think tomorrow night will be the breakout night for the PP
and if it’s not, it’ll be the next night. Not unlike Cubs fans for the last century or so.
Just need a PP goal. Just 1 would be good for me.

It's gonna happen.

Keith out and Crow in v. Florida.
NHLBlackhawks Chicago Blackhawks
Your Coach Q recap: Crawford starts against Cats, Duncs is out (day to day, will play “soon”) and Stalberg is up with Toews and Brunette.
This makes me think Crow is getting a lot of work this weekend. Starting Emery against Tampa doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Also, word is out about Keith’s left hand. Does Kubina give him a whack there if he gets a chance?

Pavel fuckin' Kubina...they probably will make a statue of him outside Rogers Arena elbowing Bolly in the head...
"Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, that's a straw, you see? You watching?. And my straw reaches acroooooooss the room, and starts to drink your milkshake... I... drink... your... milkshake!"
If there was ever a time I would not have a problem with Keith Stone going all meathead on somebody
it would be if he ‘accidentally’ were to do some damage to that dirt bag. He’s got some payback coming for the Bolland incident.

bolland can get his own payback
the trollmeister probably will, im gonna watch him closely.

Truth
All he has to do is give him the death stare and Kubina will wither like a vampire in the midday sun.

Or Kubina will wait until he turns around and elbow him in the back of the head again.

Giving Emery the 2nd game of a 3 in 4 night run makes prefect sense
Tampa is under Florida in the standings so far too

Am I the only one who would not really be over thrilled with picking up Inginla?

We'd have to dump Olesz to make room - but why wouldn't we?
other than the RW thing

Yes, you're probably the only one
Not saying it’s gonna happen, because it’s an extreme longshot, but you’re the only ‘Hawks fan I know of that wouldn’t be excited if it did happen

I would not be bummed
It is just not a move I would fall over myself about, it would really depend on what it cost to make it happen.

Good lord, with him here we go from fairly good right now to downright scary.
