Sack: Hawks 5 - Blues 2
You were promised Killion, but you're gonna have to live with me. You'll live.
At the end of tonight's game, I hit St. Louis Gametime with my usual taunt that I use after a Hawks win over the Blues. You probably saw it. Sadly, I don't think I can say it above the fold here, so allow me to fill in a little space before they let me put in a break here. How are you? Everything well? Some game tonight, huh? Where'd you go to school? Yeah? Huh. Yeah? Huh. Well now that we know each other a little bit better...
Good, now that's over. Anyway...Real gangsta ass n****z don't flex nuts, cuz real gangsta ass n****z know they got 'em.
The Geto Boys knew what was up, and that's what tonight felt exactly like. While the Hawks strolled into DrinkScotch Center with a lot of questions, some problems, and confidence not exactly flowing like an avalanche pouring down a mountain, the Blues entered as the hottest team in the league, claiming they finally figured it out, and ready to announce themselves as true believers.
They ran around, they tried to intimidate, they were physical, and they tried to prove something.
And then the team we love so much stepped back, smiled, grabbed their balls and asked their counterpart where theirs were. And when it counted, the Blues didn't have an answer. And damn it feels good to be a gangsta'.
So while Gametime may bleat on about how our captain in a pansy because he doesn't lose his shit trying to pick fights, or wonder why Kane needs to protected, or think that hockey games are settled by who wins the post-whistle scraps, we'll head to the exits with our two points and a firm statement about who belongs where, thank you very much.
Most satisfying win of the season? Definitely in the team photo. Everything seemed stacked against the Hawks tonight, especially after Vladimir Sobotka slew-footed Andrew Brunette leading to the go-ahead goal in the 2nd. It felt like a time when the Hawks could have totally packed it in. But no, they responded as everyone might want to see them do so. I'm gonna fucking puke the next time someone intimates that this team is weak, I really am.
Even with Pat Foley getting on his meatball soapbox about the hit stats (which is funny considering earlier monologues about how the Wings never lead in that category but are tough), the Hawks dominated the shot clock, chances chart, and scoreboard. Which would you rather?
Other thoughts:
-I was going to start these by complaining about the overriding of Keith and Seabrook. But in the 3rd, Coach Q rolled everyone, and Marlboro 72's minutes are a very understandable 23 and 22. Montador and O'Donnell may look a -2, but one came after an egregious no-call and the first goal was after an unlucky bounce from a Berglund pass.
-After that, did Berglund have a shift?
-These stats are always goofy, but the Hawks were credited with only two giveaways tonight. That'll do nicely.
-Hammer's best game of the season, and he was credited with seven blocked shots. Things look a lot better when he plays like that.
-Forgot about Marian Hossa there for a few games. What a wonderful reminder. The chase for 400 starts Monday.
-The penalty kill ended up +1, so there's an upset.
-Honestly, you can fucking have David Backes. While he's running around trying to prove his worth by being out of position and hitting everything, a real captain was kicking his ass at hockey. I'll take that.
-The only alarming thing about tonight, and that may be strong, is that the Hawks still got nothing from their bottom six other than an empty net goal. Well, that's a bit unfair. The Smith-Bolland-Frolik line was more active than the third line has been, and that's at least a start. And Stalberg had a pretty strong game even though he was moved to the fourth line after one shift.
I said we'd all feel better if the Hawks saved the good to great performance for tonight and gathered all four points on the weekend. So they did. And I feel better. You?
...cuz real gangsta ass n****z know they got 'em.

Panger said the word "trip" or "tripped-up" 5 times when he was talking about the stewart goal
and not once did he mention it was illegal or should have been penalized.
what a fucking homer.

I saw the highlights on On the Fly and it was the Blows feed
Is there any play that they make that is not UNBELIEVABLE or UNREAL?
Yeah I watched the Blows feed
and every so called “non- call” against the Hawks was ranted about at length, but after the slew foot it was “Sobotka trips up Brunnet and Stewart scores”. And that was the last it was spoke of.
I know NFL refs get reviewed by the league and reprimanded for shitty calls but I’m not sure the NHL does or not. Anyone have an idea how it works? Not that anything would happen or change, I’m just curious about what the league has to assist refs in ensuring correct calls are made to the best of their ability in such a fast paced game.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
don't know either and would be interested to find out
that said, I’m always of the opinion that refs are human and make mistooks.. especially with a game as freaking fast as Hockey.. then again, that’s maybe not a point of view to air around Leafs fans.
enough of the niceties: time for the eye-gouging..
and yes, I probably *should* be asleep right now!
It is a fast game
and I really wouldn’t love it as much as I do if EVERY infraction was called, but like justforkicks stated below that call was directly in front of the official and should have been called.
Oh well, maybe someone more intelligent than I will have an answer, if there is one.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
i'd just love for them to at least
1) have to do a refresher on the rules every so often and
2) since the games are reviewed, have shanahan or whoever on his team send them missed calls with the reasons why (like they do with suspensions or lack thereof) as a learning. And I don’t mean everything, its tough fast sport, and things will be missed. But on something like the slewfoot leading to a goal, I’d love for them to say, this happened, it was wrong, and here’s why.
"Well now you're just talking like Foghorn Leghorn!"

Foley & Edzo
would probably be the same if it were Tazer, lucky for us our players keep their heads up when crossing the neutral zone with the puck. (for the most part. I just remembered Mitchell’s hit on Toews)
No worries, this was the plan all along!
Mitchel just jumped out of the penalty box though.
It’s pretty easy to lose where players are located on the ice when he, basically, magically appears 4 feet in front of you. That being said, Toews had his head buried.

I am happy for Perron though.
He is a good player who is only gonna get better
No worries, this was the plan all along!
Decided to see what all the fuss is over there
And first comment I see is:
Perron is pretty darn good and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen better hands
Uh huh.
No doubt
And props to him for coming back and getting a goal. But better hands? Maybe in your current roster.
it's a super homerish
bunch over there. I’m just surprised the quote you picked out didn’t include the words “shitcago” or “pussy” in it. There is hope in St. Louis…
That was only the first quote
I like the 17 year old that is railing on the bandwagon fans and remembering the lockout days. When he was 10.
ah yes...
that kid really hates Hawk bandwagon fans. He’s really hitting up that meme pretty hard.
I love the way the Chicago Crowd sings "Danny Boll"
whenever he is selected first star on he night.
Maybe it's booze, maybe it's glue, maybe it's gasoline. Maybe it's a gunshot to the head. But something. Something to relieve the pressures of their everyday life, like having to tie their shoes.
I meant the meme
There are always going to be dumb sports fans
Worst was when they were talking about "everything"
Perron has accomplished at only age 23. “It’s just unreal, unbelievable.” Unless of course, you are comparing his achievements to one Jonathan Toews or one Patrick Kane.
And… Bernie Federko is a fucking loser. Listening to him talk about himself is like listening to ex-Islanders piss and moan about all the extra attention the 80’s Oiler’s got over them. Grow up, you were a hell of a player and that’s cool. You don’t need to remind the viewer 3 or 4 times a game.
Getting the Centre Ice Blues feed is one of the worst things I have to sit through during the winter. Darryl Reaugh on the Dallas feed though? Solid gold. I’ll tune into Stars games just to listen to some of the classic shit he comes up with.
You are next.

crazy how a hockey game can inspire so much hatred
between two freaking blogs. hiding behind screen names is fun isnt it?
just wanted to thank justforkicks and Mike Martin for being able to have a civilized rivalry. i feel bad if they have to hang around some of these hate filled fans.
i dont always condone stuff that happens over at SLGT, but for this blog to go ape shit about it is rather comical.
anyways, i enjoy the blues vs. blackhawks rivalry. cant wait til the next game in february. good luck til then.
..on a side note, im sure a majority of you all are cubs fans, just as a majority of us are cardinal fans. just take that into consideration before making a hilariously clever slam on the blues losing ways compared to the hawks recent championship.
Please let us know
if we are allowed to take into consideration any other sports, aside from baseball, before slamming your hockey team. Just so we understand your rules.
Cause I’d really like to make fun of your football team that has an average record of 2-14 over 4 of the last 5 seasons, but I’m not sure if that applies when slamming your hockey team. I really hope it does though.
Thanks!

He raised the point about hit stats in the context of explaining that the Hawks are not a team that is going to run around hitting people. It didn’t come off as a complaint.
WGN can still bite me. Thanks for televising the games, but stop sucking at it.
That was definitely Hammer’s best game of the year. More, please.
Feel damn good bout that one
I had to watch the blues broadcast of this game and I’ll admit the refs sucked ass but it was both ways, the hawks out played the blues most of the game but the 2 pukes on the post game blamed it all on the refs. Another hot goalie got it shoved up his ass by the hawks and I liked it. Completely shocked that Scott didn’t dress but I liked that too. More efforts like that PLEASE

Unmentioned is that Goal #1 was a play that didn't have to happen
certainly, the penalty was missed on that score, but Emery shouldn’t have played the puck — icing was to be called.

Actually they showed
the Linesman’s arm go up and then down real quick and icing was waved off so Razer was correct in playing the puck. Sobotka was incorrect in slew footing Bruno for goal #2. Goal #1 was just a lucky bounce that came right to Perron.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
the announcers kept saying we won because of special teams (the same special teams that have been absolute pants for us recently)
and that was it. And while we did score some goals there, we were better then them 5×5 as well.

damn good game tonight
even if there was a crappy then frozen feed for the most of it. we stayed calm, played the game our way (worked through their physicality and didn’t slow down or roll over), and won. its the kind of game we can definitely build off of.
"Well now you're just talking like Foghorn Leghorn!"
I have a few questions about tonight's game
first was Bolland technically offisides on Hossa’s shorty?
second how many fucking times have we seen Frolik set up for a one-timer, get the pass, put the puck on goal and then not get a goal. Is this bad shot placement, bad luck, excellent goal tending or all of he above.
Bolly was good on that play
Looking at the video, his left foot was behind the blue line until Hossa crossed over. He was smart enough to wait a few seconds.
As for Fro, I’d sad bad shot placement. Apparently someone has to fill in for Bicks that way.
I will give Fro
that no matter how shitty his angle or shot is he hits the goalie more times than not.
No worries, this was the plan all along!

hmmm..
Tootoo: when I first saw the clip, I thought he wanted to cut back in front of AHRM, but Erhoff’s push directed him at Miller, and the leap was a split-second flail, more douchebaggery than goonery. But given Tootoo’s history (ask Frolik among others), I say throw the book at him.
Fistric: looks like he ticked every box on Shan’s list and more
SLGT: first and last visit there. As a whole, it sure hits the daily double, lacking both decency and iq
Hawks W: Great to see the all-around effort. Am I being too greedy to ask for a repeat on Monday?
If graffiti changed anything it would be illegal

Tootoo, while being a complete dickhead, was a lot less guilty than Lucic so I can’t really see what Shanahan can do without being accused of double-standards. Fistric, on the other hand, is going to get walloped by the Shanahammer..

the thing is...
the Hawks aren’t not weak on certain nights. It’s not the word I would use to pick apart our chosen team’s weakness, but getting grinded down during the course of a game can sometimes be a concern with this team.
And then the team we love so much stepped back, smiled, grabbed their balls and asked their counterpart where their’s were. And when it counted, the Blues didn’t have an answer. Andgoddamn it feels good to be a gangsta’.

They played a great team game last night. Hammer, without question, played his best game of the season; perhaps of the last two seasons. Knowing this team can play like this is what makes it so frustrating and aggravating when they don’t play up to their abilities. As CCM suggests, if we got 2 out 3 like this I think all we “meatheads” would be very content.

Little known fact
on that Cup win … all 29 other teams were prohibited by certain regulations in the CBA from spending what the Hawks were permitted to spend. It’s complex legalese, as they say, but reports have summarized that 28 teams (excepting then Thrashers, oddly) could only spend up to half of whatever the Hawks payroll was (the Thrashers could go to five-eighths). So there’s actually truth to the claim that we bought the Cup.

Backes is a good coach away
from being a really good player in this league. That just might happen now that they’ve got competence behind the bench.
what does it mean to flex nuts?
also
-anyone else a bit worried when bolland got plowed on the hossa shorty?
-St Louis is who we thought they were. if you get them away from the game and get them skating out of position for hits and doing dumb shit to earn trips to the sin bin, you get points. take note, rest of the league

From Urban Dictionary
1. Flex Nuts
The act of emitting a sense of power towards a weaker person. To be overbearing or dominating towards an individual or group of people.
“David Backes tried to flex nuts and got beat down.”
no you're wrong

I almost lost it when that douchetool again tried to goad Toews into another stupid fight, this time when he pried his helmet off like a goddamn corkscrew. That guy needs to be put into the seats next time, period – but the team finally responded like we haven’t seen against the Blues (at least in STL) in over two years. I wanted them to respond in kind when that kind of crapola started, and this time notice was served. Every skirmish, every chippy damn thing was followed by at least two Hawks players congregating around the specific STL douche in question – way to go, boys.

yeah that's awesome
but of course over here hardly anyone would get it. I used to work for a big consumer mag publisher that employed more than a few Brits, and after a few pints the insults got fairly hilarious at times. Usually I wound up being called the “bloody Irish Git,” and they in turn would get the “sod off, you foppish grunt.” They all loved my liberal use of the word “douche,” certainly.
btw their imitations of our regional accents were also hilarious
but it’s interesting, those accents are really going away forever these days. Too many Northerners have resettled in the southern part of the country, it’s changed dramatically over the past two decades.
yes, 'douche' is a wonderful Americanism
that i have happily uploaded to my slang-wagon.
Brits really, really can’t do other people’s accents.. whatever they do comes off as a little-bit-Australian.
Interesting about the vanishing regional accents: here they’re still very, very strong.. people from different counties ten miles apart will have distinct dialects and accents

when I visited Ireland
we landed near Shannon, and had to stop and ask for directions on a rural country road on the way to The Burren. That guy’s accent was almost as severe as many Scottish ones I’ve heard over the years – could not understand a word he was saying, some kind of hybrid Hebrides/Gaelic/English slang thing.

Shannon is about fifteen miles from here.. weird airport, isn’t it? You walk out and there’s… a river estuary..

The Ring was of course awesome, but the Burren was something otherworldly, like it really doesn’t fit anywhere else in the country. Love to go back when I get the money, I would spend more time there if given another chance. Dublin was OK, but the Temple Bar area was too much Eurotrash for my tastes.
Temple Bar
is fucking hideous.. it actually got to the point where they wouldn’t allow groups of more than five English people into the bars there because it became #1 Stag/Hen party destination.. and it’s eye-wateringly expensive in an already pricey town.. Dublin is only OK.. nice to visit but you sure wouldn’t want to live there…

Was some guy saying if the Blues had won Perron would’ve been PD’s star of the night. They truly live in a bubble. Disregard Moulson’s 4 goals or that Perron wasn’t even close to being the player of the game in the arena he was in. Silly.

Was at the game last night
and on the way home we were listening to Blues post game radio & ALL they could talk about was how disgraceful & awful it was to have that many Blackhawks fans at the game. Nothing about the game, how either team performed, nada zip. The only thing worth discussing was the sheer number of Blackhawks fans in the building.
Granted there were a ton of us there to be sure, I’d guess 60/40 split by my eye test. I know my lower bowl section was closer to 80% Hawks fans.

I was in Anaheim and LA for the weekend … the Hawks crowd completely drowned out the Ducks mess … not so much Sat nite … loud but not overwhelming.
Just more proof of how the Indian head is EVERYwhere in the NHL … in last year’s ATL game the crowd was overwhelmingly a sea of red !!!!
this made me laugh a lot

No worries, this was the plan all along!
it's all okay though...

Chicago spies? I remember everyone whining about unfair calls, but I missed that one. Any one have a link?
It was the game
that Scheider started and he was asked why it wasn’t announced and he stated that there had been unauthorized personnel from Chicago in the Nucks locker room and they didn’t want word to get out that Lu wasn’t starting.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
bahaha I remember that now
They’re all a bunch of nut cases over there aren’t they?
Great game
Also like to note that Emery was pretty fucking solid tonight. Deserved that win
Why Q, why?!
"Watching a shootout is like admitting you watch Survivor or search the internet for porn."
Not a bad game by Emery
and I give him credit. However, the real difference is that we had some D show up in front of him for a change. Emery left some juicy rebounds and St.L missed some opportunities, but the D was there to clean up the mess. If Crow had that level of support in front of him I don’t think his numbers would be quite so much dog shit.
Thank you, sir! May I have another?
I agree
but I was happy that he made the saves he needed to and kept us in the game. I hope th eD like you said can help out Crow the same way
Why Q, why?!
"Watching a shootout is like admitting you watch Survivor or search the internet for porn."
He made some key saves on some redirects
and one that really stands out came from the left half boards and was centered to a guy in the low slot who directed the puck right on net but Emery was there. He was sharp and tracked the puck well, even with some of the big bodies the Blues put in front of him. Good game for him to build on.
Also, fuck your fantasy team this week. I need the Lanche to light up Howard tonight.
I thought the forwards
really contributed to the defensive effort and would like to see Razer get a few starts if for nothing other than to give Crow a break for a while to shake whatever has gotten into him.
Granted it’s not all on Crow but he hasn’t been the goalie he was last season.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
I know a lot of people will disagree with me...
…but I think that Crow’s struggles have led the guys around him to tighten up. When a goalie gives up softies early in the game (which has been a Crow specialty lately) it has a trickle down effect.
They got a nice breather last night with Emery in there. And while I don’t think he’s anywhere near a long term answer, I wouldn’t have a problem with him getting more ice time for now at least.
It's kind of like
the chicken or the egg thing in regards to the D’s play having an effect on Crow and visa versa. Neither one is doing anything to instill confidence in the other.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
Chicken/egg thing.
I don’t think a lot of people would disagree with you on that. I agree they should give Emery another start and see how things work out. You’re right, he’s not long term answer but if he can just get Crow thinking about losing the starting job and refocus on his technique Emery’s doing his job…
Thank you, sir! May I have another?
I completely agree of the chicken/egg part...
Like I said, I’m not advocating giving him the starting job but I also don’t think that riding Craw hard is going to do much good (it hasn’t so far).
I think this team’s long term success is ultimately going to fall on Crawford so maybe it’s better to give him some now to work on his game, especially if Emery continues to play like he did last night.
Maybe Crow is
one of those goalies that needs to be pushed for that #1 position in order to bring out his best play.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
Except we gave up an early lead last night too
And the team didn’t fall apart.
They scored first 6 minutes into the first
Seems to be the theme these days
Fair enough, early lead then.
But whatever is causing Crow and our defense to shit the bed at the same time doesn’t have to do with a lack of team confidence in each other. Last night it looks like we might have figured something out as far as whole team defensive effort goes. Rest Crow Monday and have him figure some things out then bring him back Thursday.

I remember hearing pretty often Turco was left hung our to dry last season and that he was better than his record. Maybe a couple of anomalous games wouls be acceptable, but a longer run means there is a real problem, either in team chemistry or on an individual level.
Maybe it's booze, maybe it's glue, maybe it's gasoline. Maybe it's a gunshot to the head. But something. Something to relieve the pressures of their everyday life, like having to tie their shoes.
Ugh, this sounds like what we said about craw vs turco last year
Craw was good, but the D showed for him
barf
A couple of thoughts from last night:
One poster asked if we could have won the game with Crow in net. Better to ask if we could have won against a team with a decent PP. The first goal was one Emery should not have given. As another poster said, if he’s hugging the post, that goal is impossible.
So while I’d like to see Razr in net, I’m find with Crow on Monday.
I plan to live forever, or die trying.

The fact that Toews was drafted third is a complete anomaly
And a gift from the hockey gods.
I'm still trying
to figure out why Tallon drafted Skille over Kopitar. Riddle me that Batman!
No worries, this was the plan all along!
Tallon must have the love-bug hard for Skille
Drafted him and traded for him.
So I heard
Good for Skille. Blackhawks South though has been doing pretty well though.
I knew when
Tallon went on his splurge that if they could find some chemistry they would be pretty good and that’s what they have done. Almost makes me wish SB would have picked up Feleischman if he could have gotten him cheaper than what DT payed for him.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
Fleischmann would have been welcome
Especially if we could have gotten him for something like $3.8 million a year. Where would we have put him though?
He could have
taken Stals place on the top line or Carcillo’s on the 2nd. He can even play C in a pinch
No worries, this was the plan all along!
I was thinking that too
Plus, this team is lacking significant ginger-ness, and it’s unfair that Florida has two of them.

from #19
A delightfully understated, slightly snide Toews: “It was nice to make it worth the trip for our fans here.”
Serious question: Would we have even drafted Toews if we had taken Kopitar...
…a year earlier? I’d always heard that there was a strong “Phil Kessel contingent” in the Hawks’ draft room in ’06 and that Tallon over ruled them.
We’ll never know for sure but, if the price we paid for missing out on Kopitar was the Captain, I’ll be happy with that deal.
SLGT, don't ever visit there, I beg of you
Creativity: Shitcago, CamelToews, Maid Marian
They suggested that the Shitcago fans in attendance should be jumped after the game, and in particular, commenter spectr17 said “Why haven’t the Blues fans in attendance taken care of business yet”.
They are a sad bunch over there and honestly make me want to commit suicide for being associated with them by being a member of the human race.
They make NM look like a safe haven, and truthfully NM is pretty damn decent when compared with the toothless, meth lab operating, knuckle-dragging Stl fans.
"What is icing?"
"Well, uh... icing appen when uh the puck come down... bang, you know, before the other guys, nobody there, you know. My arm go comme ça then the game stop then start up."
Man is that a sad commentary...
…but, based on what I’ve been reading, you’re dead on.
It reminds me of last year when, I have to admit, I took a certain amount of perverse glee in reading through the rage filled tangents the night Dallas crapped the bed against the Wild to allow the Hawks to make the playoffs.
Speaking of Dallas

And as an aside, WTF is with people from central and southern Illinois thinking they are from St Louis?
I get that they only get the Stl feeds most of the time, but jeebus man, have some pride. YOU ARE NOT FROM MISSOURI. If you don’t like Illinois, GTFO. Unfortunately, I have family obligations that require me to visit the southernmost part of the state from time to time, and it is hell every time.
You get to Peoria, a whopping 3 hour drive from here, and the southern accents begin. In a northern state. Just because you live in a rural area doesn’t mean you should speak with a southern drawl and drive around with confederate flags you fucking douchecanoes.

I made a lot of money off my friends
from small town in So IL when the Hawks won the Cup. They were so sure the Hawks would lose they were willing to bet small fortunes on it. The best thread on SLGT I ever read was the game 6 2010 thread they put up to cheer on the Flyers, just a thoroughly enjoyable read.
I remember that thread, it was classic

my wife's family is from Peoria
and just like the rest of the state going south, you have divided loyalties. I don’t get it if you grow up in Peoria, it’s not that far away from chicago, but you’ll met a lot of folks from there that have never even been to Chicago once, yet have traveled to STL all the time. Same thing with the accents – right down the middle.
you're missing the point
people from central and southern Illinois are anti-Chicago. Chicago is the 800-lb gorilla in Illinois and is resented outside of Chicagoland. St Louis is closer to them, geographically and culturally. I get that.
We like our people!
That's what I don't get

this story will help maybe
First family outing I went to, and one of her cousins came up to me and said…“so you’re from Chicago, huh?” Then he waited two beats and said “I went there once…DIDN’T LIKE IT!!!!” As if I was supposed to be mortally offended by his comment, or that I gave two shits about his opinion. He actually turned out to be a decent guy, but the demarcation line begins at Peoria, everything south of that line is the Confederacy.
Out of curiosity...
What was the atmosphere like when the Bears had to play an entire season in Champaign a few years back (when Soldier was getting reno’d)? Does that vibe exist there too or is it kind of different because Illinois is the the big “state” school and maybe a little more “blue” politically?
I just ask because I’m not from the area and find it intruguing although not that surprising.

great question
maybe I’m imagining things, but I get a bit of an anti-Chicago vibe from Champaign.
In most big ten states, the flagship school unifies people from across the state. But U of I is not a big deal in Chicago, where the sports focus is on the pro teams. Even among college fans, allegiances are split because of DePaul, Northwestern etc. Also, Chicago draws people from all around the Midwest. Walking around downtown, I prolly see as much or more Notre Dame, Michigan, MSU, Iowa, Wisconsin memorabilia as Illinois.
I have some clients out in western Illinois for whom U of I has totemic significance, but I just don’t see that in Chicago.
I think non-Chicago Illinoisians like it that way. It’s like U of I is their thing, the one thing they can rally around that isn’t on Chicago’s radar. It kinda reminds me of the World Cup in soccer. Part of the attraction, it seems to me, is that the whole world can get together while the fucking Americans aren’t paying attention for once.
Curious what others’ impressions are though.
We like our people!
I know what you mean about school colours flying around town.
My first trip to Chicago I was visiting a couple Canadian buddies who went to Michigan State and settled down in Chicago. I suggested a pub as a place to watch a game and their immediate reaction was, “No, no, no – that’s a place where all the Michigan fans hang-out”. Not implying that anything bad would happened to them if they went there, just that they didn’t want to sit amongst the memorabilia if thy didn’t have to. In subsequent trips I’ve really noticed it a lot more. My non-qualified eyes would have Michigan, ND, Wisconsin and State as the top 4 (or at least the loudest 4) in no particular order.
So, back to the Bears thing then… why didn’t they just play at Ryan Field? Or is it just considered too small/out-of-date for an NFL team, even if only temporary?

They actually hate Chicago so much
They proposed to make Cook and some other counties their own state! Silly Southern Illinoisers, not reading the Constitution either.
It's a similar dynamic at New York State and CA
CA always wants to be split into two states, and upstaters in NY really hate Manhattan and the surrounding burghs.
Never new that about California
But I have some friends near NYC and they don’t care for upstate NY very much.
Oh god yeah,
living in Northern California, I can tell you that people from Southern California are looked down upon. It sort of is like two entirely different types of people.

I moved from Joliet to Peoria with my family when i was little
Still here at 23 and hate it. i cant wait to move back up. Youre totally right though, the first place i ate when we moved, people had this dumbass drawl, there’s camo on every pickup truck. the food sucks, the river stinks like shit, the Peoria Rivermen games are Goon-tastic and dont get me started on the plethora of deer antlers on everything…..the deer…antlers….
100% Blackhawks Blood.
Piss off,
I live 4 hours away from Chicago, and 2 hours away from St Louis. What fucking state you are from matters very little to which team you root for. I get CSN, as well as FSMW, but I do not get WGN-Chicago. As far as I can see, Chicago doesn’t want the rest of the state to be involved. Hotels are MUCH cheaper in St. Louis than in Chicago. Plus any time there is a fucking lotto winner they are either from the Chicago area, or the St. Louis area. There are a LOT of cattle being raised between Moline and Peoria, that tends to promote the “southern drawl” that you speak of, but here in the center, I talk like the fucking newscasters on National TV. With a few more cuss words than they tend to use.

The Blues fans must not also be Cardinal fans
When the Cards are in Chicago, Wrigley looks 50% red. And why all the pent up anger? It’s not as though St.Lou is without any kind of championship, a la Vancouver… October a long time ago St.Louis??
Thank you, sir! May I have another?
True but the Chalice seems as elusive to them as it is to Vancouver
Maybe that’s where the bitterness lies.
As a Sox fan, I laugh when they try to insult me and "my baseball team"
Born a south sider, I don’t mind their irrational hate of the Cubs. And like you said, they have World Series title’s galore, why waste your hate on the Cubs who haven’t won since the Andrew Jackson era?
They really must hate drinking our shit, that’s all I can think of to explain their hate of all things Chicago.
