Contributions from the deep
Good morning fellow and slightly disgruntled hawks fans.. its been awhile since I have posted. Last time i shared my opinion in a mostly thoughtful, sometimes wordy and awkward post about Tomas Kopecky.
So. There is still some hockey left to be played, just how much one cannot be sure. If this series were to go to a seventh game, (boy that would be swell) it would be the most physically and emotionally taxing hockey series imaginable. All the potential travelling and body banging is a quite formidable prospect.
Since the Stanley Cup is the highest hockey achievement on the planet hands down, it seems difficult, nearly impossible now to imagine reaching it again. I am first of all, a huge proponent of thinking positively, but as a natural realist I am forced by our current situation to think one game at a time.
I am here today to share my belief that the depth on any given team is responsible the majority of the hockey karma on that given team. That we lack the intangibles that go along with good depth does not bode well for the top guys, and thus the entire team. Yes we have explored this, but without that depth, we take a lower (lowest) seed, and can't seem to get the magical timely goals, or bounces that can change a game/series. Games 1 and 2 speak to this. 3 also. Last year in the pivotal game 5 against Nashville, Versteeg and Ladd both got on the scoresheet, helping propel us to that magical win in which Kane and Hossa eventually tallied. After that game, well, you all know the deal. Without the intangibles that guys like that bring to the team, the bounces do not seem as frequent, and the hockey gods seem less willing (if i may make them an active faculty) to dish out some good karma.
My ears are ringing from all the pipes that were hit in the series so far. Luongo might call them his 2, or 3 best friends if every post gets its own identity. They are the 3 best friends that anyone could ever have... ha ha, ok, but Viktor Stahlberg can attest to this, although he might call them his 3 enemies.
I guess a fitting analogy for all this would be Q trying to replace Big Buff with John Scott traffic-wise, and even putting him on the power play. A risky venture at best. Q is certainly aware of the discrepancy. Some similar events would be all the glorious chances P Kane had last game, but he seemed devoid of urgency... which is perplexing i suppose. All the goal mouth scrambles that the puck doesn't end up in the net, so on and so on.
Game 4 tonite, and if anything it should be a statement game. Easy for me to say sitting at my desk, because at ice level, playoff hockey gives new meaning to the word exhaustion. We can at least bang some bodies out there and give them something to remember us by as they finally get to know what it feels like to advance in the playoffs.. that is, unless we continue to win.. But it looks like the boys might have a chance to work on their short game sooner than we all anticipated, but I hope not.
Its been a pleasure for the last year being a part of this fine digital community and I look forward to more interaction in the future. What's the going rate for big buff anyways...?
I still have to figure out how to post a picture on this but I have my offering for beard of the day as well.. Cheers.
