Stay classy, San Diego
Brewers, if you're really that desperate to disprove the saying "Defense wins championships" you're going to have to at least hit the ball occasionally.
To me, this says something
That even after they “exorcized the demons” by finally advancing past the Hawks, they still reference the series.
The fact that the Hawks forced Game 7 is still in the back of Vancouver’s mind. I hope to God they meet in the playoffs next season and sweep them.
Never Die Easy.
THIS... I really, REALLY hate that guy - and 95% of the organization/fanbase that he is a part of, too.
Everyone dies. It is the only true and lasting justice in life.
While I do not like Sedin (respect his skill but thats it) or his comments
The Canucks did underperform big time for those two games. The Hawks did what they were supposed to do and took advantage of it. The Canucks were a better team than the Hawks, which makes the 3 game comeback look even better.
The Canucks are a really mouthy team, but I do like Vancouver and the people are very friendly there.

Sedins + Class
Canucks fan here. I know you all hate the Canucks. I know you all hate the Sedins. I wasn’t wild about Hank’s comments after game 7, but I never thought a ‘classless’ label would stick to these guys. They’re usually soft-spoken hard workers who are great in the community. Are you guys aware of this?
I mean seriously? $1.5 million?
Yes, that donation is great
but that doesn’t mean we won’t call out the classlessness of their verbal diarrhea…

That is a great donation
The Sedin’s are fucking good. They are really fun to watch as a Hockey fan. I really don’t think its all that big of a deal what they said. The guy is Swedish, its not like he speaks great English.
The Canucks are a much more talented team than the Hawks. They played terrible for two games and let the Hawks back in it (the Hawks played pretty good in both those games overall). Because of this poor play they “gave us the game”. He didn’t say “We gave two games to a very bad team” or anything like that. I don’t know why this is so hard for some to acknowledge/understand.
people have differing opinions dude, and that's ok
Why is it so difficult to understand or acknowledge? Because people don’t agree with your opinion, and guess what? They don’t have to.

Answering a question = classless?
I’m not going to say that the post-game 7 comment was classy, but I’m not totally sure what you take issue with in this quote. Someone asks him if failing to put the preds away in game 5 was similar to the game 4 and 5 failures to put the Hawks to bed. He said it’s different, because in those games, the Canucks didn’t show up. Commentators were saying the Canucks were off their game even before the Game 4 second period blowup (I’m basically making the same point as 815Sox here). I don’t think it’s indicative either of a lack of respect for the Hawks, or of dwelling on Round 1. He was asked a question about Round 1! I’ll give you the Burrows hair-pulling, Kesler’s yapping, and Bieksa playing the game like a jerk (which I think is how it ought to be played), but I really can’t equate the Sedins, who have held their heads high and worked hard through years of mostly unwarranted criticism, with classlessness.
In nearly every post conference
that the Nucks have had after losing a game, I have yet to hear a single player give other teams the credit that they deserve. For some reason it always comes down to “Well we made a mistake and let them score a goal (or 7), or we just didn’t do this or that and they were able to score”. That is the problem I have with 99% of the players on that team. I can’t really recall where the thought in the locker room was “The other team was hungry and just outplayed us, or they forced us into some mistakes that they were able to capitalize on”.
If they would give credit where credit was due and not make smart ass comments like “They didn’t even belong in this series”. I for one would have much less of a problem with their attitudes. I still wouldn’t like them as a team, but I would have a little respect for them.
And what’s with Gillis and his talk of spies in their locker room? That is almost as funny as him crying about why his team was taking more penalties than the Hawks were in that series, Hello!! did he not watch the games or what?
Yeah the twins do good stuff for their community, but we’re talking hockey here. Matt Cooke may be the greatest humanitarian that has ever walked the earth, but he is still a douchbag!

Giving credit? You mean like saying...
“it’s just frustrating because we haven’t exposed them for what they really are?”
If we’re talking hockey here, I don’t think many people would argue that the Sedins are hard workers, gifted athletes, and play with respect for their opponents. The other Canucks might get involved in some untoward gamesmanship and yapping, but do I really need to remind you that the Hawks twice this season chirped injured players leaving the ice? Brendan Morrison skated off what might be his last ever NHL game getting jeered by some Chicago punk.
I’m not asking you to love the guys, but I think calling them classless based on one uncharacteristic comment is unfair. The NHLPA, which nominated them for its foundation award, would probably agree.
Calling a team beatable
and saying that they “don’t belong in a series” is not the same thing, and if players got chirped at after being injured I’m sure it wasn’t one of the team leaders as in Sedin’s case. I agree that the Sedins are great players, and I’m sure they are great people, i just thought that was an inappropriate comment to make. An 8th seed just takes you to the limit and then he says that they shouldn’t have even been in the series?
Like I said, the only real problem I have is that they don’t give credit to teams that beat them. Sure they didn’t play as well in games 4 & 5 as they did in games 1 & 2, but never once was it said that maybe the Hawks’ play had something to do with them not playing well. Other than that, the twins are great players, as is Kessler now that he has focused on his play, and I don’t have a problem with their play just some of their comments. For the record, I never called them classless. And lets not forget, if memory serves, that there were a few Nucks players giggling & pointing at Kaner when he was face planted into the boards in game 7 and was having trouble getting off the ice.

Didn't you know ??
Vanc is unbeatable. Toews was WRONG. Vanc went 82-0 in the RS. They’re the greatest team in the history of the game. Better than the 70’s Habs, early 80’s Isles and mid/late 80’s Oilers TOGETHER !!
It’s asinine comments like that from AB above is why I rooted for the Preds, root now for the Sharks and for sure will root for the Bolts or B’s if the Sharks don’t beat them to it.
Just win the next game...!
Ditto, even their fans are arrogant pricks...
And I live near Tampa and go to a dozen or so games a year (good seats available and not overpriced…) and every Hawks – Lightning game since the Bolts inception…so I’m pulling for the local boys…
Son, when you participate in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose : it's how drunk you get.
There's a HUGE difference between saying something during the series
where you’re trying to get your team in the game and is a part of gamesmenship, and saying it after when you’ve already won! I would have been annoyed if they said it during, but I would have understood. Saying it after the series is over is being a poor winner, unsportsmanlike, unclassy.

I don't think that the Sedins are classless but, that comment was.
Show some respect for the other team. Just say, “We didn’t get the job done” or some other tried and true cliche…It’s not like the Nucks blew the Hawks away…all the games they won were close affairs and when they gave a poor effort the Hawks beat them pretty badly. And if Bolland had been available from the start and Sharpie heathy it might have been a different outcome…Comments like that usually come back and bite you in the ass on down the road.

OK, let’s put this to bed. I think we all agree that Henrik’s statement after game 7 was in poor taste. I hope most of you agree that the twins are generally classy players, on and off the ice. I still don’t see what makes the above statement blog-billboard material. All he’s saying is the Canucks performed better in game 5 vs the Preds than in games 4 and 5 vs the Hawks, where Chicago came to play and the Canucks mailed it in. Cheers.
We're not going to agree
Their inability to give any credit to the opposing team after the series has already been won is ridiculous. And frankly, if more people want to talk about it here, then more power to them – it is a Hawks blog after all.

"OK, let’s put this to bed."
Who died and left YOU in charge of OUR blog?? And, if you do not like our “blog-billboard material” you do NOT have to read it or comment on it. We will talk about whatever we want to.
All he’s saying is the Canucks performed better in game 5 vs the Preds than in games 4 and 5 vs the Hawks, where Chicago came to play and the Canucks mailed it in.
No, what Heiney was saying is that they had no respect for an opponent that took them to OT in a game 7 while missing 2 starters. And that they were still bitter and embarrassed about it almost 2 weeks later…which is why I posted it in the first place.
Son, when you participate in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose : it's how drunk you get.
OK, OK, I'm out of bed now
You guys can talk about it all you want. We obviously disagree in our interpretation of Henrik’s quote after Game 5 of the Western Semi. Henrik was asked if he was worried about history repeating itself, and he said he wasn’t because in that game the Canucks competed, unlike against Chicago when they imploded. True to his word, they had a good bounce-back game and wrapped up the series in 6. My greater point is that the one “no business” line after an emotional game 7 OT win isn’t the defining moment on the level of class of a player who has demonstrated respect for his opponents for the greater part of his decade-long career, and has done other things to demonstrate his class, such as signing a $750,000 cheque to a hospital in his adoptive hometown.
That’s my perspective on Henrik. You think he’s a lowlife deserving of a schoolyard “I can make his name sound like an ass” moniker. I read this blog not because I expect to like what I read, but so I can temper my own opinions with the views of others. I might read any replies posted in the next couple of days, but I’m done with the back and forth. Have at it. (Or don’t. Far be it from me to tell you what to do on your blog.)
Interpretation?
How in the hell do you interpret:
where we gave them two games??
Quit trying to sugarcoat things then talk about charitable donations. Giving money to charity when you’re filthy rich doesn’t make you any less of an asshole.
Just as the case at the immediate end of the series it was a complete showing of disrespect. That’s the shit that makes people want to root against your team.
And to your point earlier about agreeing they’re classy players? No, they’re not. The only reason you want to put this to bed is because you know he’s a prick and you don’t have a good defence. That’s why you cite charitable donations. Like that’s supposed to cover up the fact he’s an asshole.
Just win the next game...!
Also by all accounts Matt Cooke is a stand up guy off the ice and with his team
does that make him any less of a douche based on his on ice antics? No. Same with Henrik.

No he is saying exactly what was said in the quote
Lets not forget English isn’t the Sedin’s first language. The Canucks played like absolute garbage in two games. The Hawks took advantage of it and won both games. Hockey teams do not always do this. Its not that big of a deal IMO
