how about when Konroyd asked him what he thought about the kids...

and he sadio it’s sort of a funny question to be asking someone who’s only 23.

that's it

I think the whole U. C. was laughing – I didn’t exactly hear the statement and thought Konroyd might have sadi something like, “How about this United center crowd.”

by wardrums on Jan 16, 2012 12:10 PM CST up reply actions

It was part of another comment

so Konroyd used the sneaky way (paraphasing): “How does it feel to play so well in front of this UC crowd?!”

they’re not talking about the Sharks, obviously, but it was great just being reminded every sports update that yes, the Hawks beat the Sharks last night.

What kind of sick move was that one Hossa put on I think in the third.

He got two backhanders off the move that “the other teams goalie” saved – but it was almost like black magic.

NHL GameCenter

I’ve been thinking of ditching cable and getting a Roku, but the only thing holding me back are hockey games. I understand that GameCenter will blackout games that are available in my market (which is St. Louis) and nationally (like NHLN, NBC and NBC sports network), but does this hold true for the postseason? It would be shame to cancel cable and then realize I won’t be able to watch any playoff games because they’re all being shown on NBC sports network.

by mt.cricker on Jan 16, 2012 11:58 AM CST reply actions

save your money and get a jailbroken apple tv.

my brother sells them on ebay and they watch all the games on HD for free. :) downside is that you have to live in the US for it to work. :/

my brother swears it will work outside the US but he doesn’t understand that a lot of the HD streaming is only within the US.

Turco was good, but Crawford has a force field...

by Coz_Bulls_Fan on Jan 16, 2012 12:07 PM CST up reply actions

no exactly sure.

my brother only pays for cable internet and he watches all the games in HD, plus any TV shows he wants. really any sports games come in HD.

Turco was good, but Crawford has a force field...

by Coz_Bulls_Fan on Jan 16, 2012 12:08 PM CST up reply actions

I have a Roku

I live in North Carolina and I think if you live in the Chicago area it will be blacked out.

This is over. You can go ahead and order the autopsy now.

by derlemke on Jan 16, 2012 12:43 PM CST up reply actions

I'm In St. Louis

but wouldn’t all postseason games televised on NBC, NHLN, and NBC sports network be black out on Gamecenter?

by mt.cricker on Jan 16, 2012 12:50 PM CST up reply actions

yes

I still use my roku but still have cable. If you want to see every game without going to a bar, then keep your cable. Bars can get expensive.

This is over. You can go ahead and order the autopsy now.

by derlemke on Jan 16, 2012 12:59 PM CST up reply actions

yeah

For me, the whole idea of getting a roku was to ditch cable completely, but not sure if that would work now. thanks for the help though

by mt.cricker on Jan 16, 2012 1:21 PM CST up reply actions

Totally disagree with the Oiler article

The team has been beset with injuries this year – when healthy, I find them one of the most enjoyable teams in the NHL to watch. Burn their entry level contracts? – It will take big bucks to sign Hall/Eberle/RNH. anyone of them would be a top six player on the hawks. In fact, I say trade Kaner for any two of them while we can still get something for him. (tongue frimly in cheek)

They’re not there yet – but the rebuild will bear fruit.

The Oilers could be fine

If they ever get someone to play Defense for them. I was looking at their roster and they are lacking on the back end. I also noticed Cam Barker is on IR for them. Offensively they could be very very dangerous in the future, but without defense and goaltending it’ll be scary.

would anyone want Zach Parise in a Hawk Sweater for the right price?

Doesn't everyone

want Parise in their sweater, for the right price?

by oregon_hawk on Jan 16, 2012 12:32 PM CST up reply actions

Do we

have enough cap space to possibly sign him this summer and still have some room for trades or would we maybe have to trade sombodey like Frolik and Montador to clear up space?

The reason why Stalberg is so good is because his last name is a mix of Staal and Forsberg.

by BigHoss on Jan 16, 2012 12:37 PM CST up reply actions

it is difficult to talk about cap space this summer

because of the new CBA that we hope will be in place.

My thought is that we can conceivable fit one more medium-to-large contract player (3-5m/ry) without causing problems, however, if the contract is too long, signing players such as leddy, krugs, and stalberg (RFA,RFA,UFA in 2 years) could become a problem. Also, longer contracts are highly uncertain quantities, with the new CBA.

by oregon_hawk on Jan 16, 2012 12:41 PM CST up reply actions

Speaking of the CBA...

After the last CBA was settled there was a brief period of contract amnesty wherein teams could get out form under bad contracts without penalty. Has anybody heard if there’s an appetite for that this time around? Or if it’s even on the table?

that each team will get one freebie buyout based on what happened with the last CBA but I haven’t seen anyone official comment on it.

Jonathan Toews- "Oh Captain, My Captain"

by Hawks&Flyers on Jan 16, 2012 12:51 PM CST up reply actions

Nor I, and it does seem that most people are assuming it will happen.

Personally, I think it will only happen if the NHLPA gets less than the current 57% of revenue… and I think it would have to be a substantial drop in order to justify contract amnesty and salary roll backs.

I just ask because I wonder if some “contending” teams will really take on a big contract they simply can’t afford (and one that doesn’t necessarily come up as UFA in the summer) assuming there will be amnesty. I think that would be horrifically bad planning by a GM but I suppose it could happen.

You are next.

by M7 on Jan 16, 2012 1:45 PM CST up reply actions

I hope the CBA

Will allow teams more cap space so that way this can happen. if we get Parise ill be the first one to buy his Hawks jersey haha

I see Hayes has now played 9 games

Does this mean a we are now using up one year of his entry level contract? I remember talk of this last year regarding guys like Morin and maybe Smith. I’m not sure I understand the contract aspect as much as I would like and I don’t know what this has on the implications of Hayes’ future in a Blackhawks sweater this season versus an Icehogs sweater.

by SludgeFeast on Jan 16, 2012 9:13 PM CST reply actions

Not exactly sure what will happen but

If the Hawks were going to send him down, they would of done it. Also this is the first year that the contract I beleive takes place since he signed recently. I’m sure someone who knows the CBA deals and all the contracts will have some better insight

Why Q, why?!
"Watching a shootout is like admitting you watch Survivor or search the internet for porn."

by Jrs23 on Jan 16, 2012 9:34 PM CST up reply actions

10 game rule

applies to 18 and 19 year olds only. Once you become 20 like Shaw or 22 like Hayes, it no longer matters. And Olsen is 21.

And last year it was about Morin who was 19 and this year Saad who is 18. So it applied to those two.

And the 10 rule doesn’t have anything to do with the A only the NHL. You have to offer your 18 or 19 year old back to their junior team if they don’t make the NHL. If the junior team doesn’t want him, he can go to the A. And going to the A doesn’t impact the rule for the following year. It is about extending the ELC an extra year for those first two years but only if they aren’t playing in the NHL.

And the rules for non North Americans are different so it was never about Kruger. He was 20 last year anyway.

Does the same apply to Olsen?

Or put another way, would it be accurate to say that such contract considerations were not relevant to the decision to send Olsen back down?

by SludgeFeast on Jan 16, 2012 10:05 PM CST up reply actions

Kruger only showed up at the end as that was “the plan all along” and only played 7. This reminds me, we haven’t had to say “Stan lies” in a while, even though it was a meme for a while
