All Gloves Are Off: Potential?
Hey guys. I had a long absence from the blogosphere, and also had some mishaps in different places. I am trying something out here, to see what you think. I tried this on another blog but it didn't work out, so here we go.
I am a big fight fan. I grew up playing hockey and fighting. I come from a long line of fighters (who were also goal scorers), and I am a mixed martial artist myself. Because of that I respect the act that is fighting, and am a big supporter of its place in the game. Now this may get me in some hot water, as I know 90% of the people on this blog are, to put it nicely, not supporters of certain tough guys, but that doesn't mean we cannot enjoy a good fight, right?
First, I am not here to debate the merit of fighting or its place in the game. Feel free to argue in the comments, and I will engage, but I am a fan, and will always be a fan. If you want to have a healthy debate though, I will go you.
Second, I want to do a weekly/bi weekly fights recap. What I would do is imbed the fights this season, and then add some oldies, as well as some of the rivals (see SCUM/Swedish Twins) getting the beat down. I am talking old Secord fights, Some Grimsons, a couple of Curt Fraser's and even non-hawks such as Marchand clips of repeated punchs to some certain faces. You catch my drift. I will also try and create some debates on current issues.
I figure its an easy way to get the fights you want without going to other sites to do it. SO, let me know underneath what you think, and if this is something you fine folks would be interested in.

I ride the fence on fighting
I like the idea of “self policing” by the players. If there was a dirty hit (which is questionable these days) then by all means stick up for your teammate. I don’t like fighting in the game just to have some goons out there put on a show. That isn’t necessary and detracts from the game. It’s also dangerous and could lead to more concussions.

I agree with everything
except for the causing concussions. Your are more likely to get a concussion from a sharp movement then a punch in the face. Hitting, then, from this point of view, should be taken out of the game.
I know what your trying to say, and I know that you don’t want women’s hockey in the NHL, but concussions can happen at anytime in the game from a fluke puke shot into a bench all the way up too a head shot, I don’t think concussions is a reason to take fighting out.
But no to the idea of fight videos?

People might like to see the fight videos
I’ve been known to look up a few myself. You can just try a fanpost with them and see what kind of response you get.
