Everybody from our top pairing, to our rookies, to some of the pick-ups are playing like shit.
Is it the system? Cause we have talent. Why aren’t our D-men performing like they should be able to game-in, game-out?

Not the system. Consistency is the problem. As much as people love Hammer, he’s been at fault for an awful lot of goals this year because he sleeps when he is suppose to be covering the crease. Just saying…

Seabrook is pretty much the only D man I would say has been consistently solid-to-good.
I think if you have THAT many D-men struggling, it has to go beyond the individuals.

Of course Hammer isn't alone.
He’s just made the most visible mistakes more often than the rest. He’s a Jeykl and Hyde. The D need to do some soul searching if this team is going to go deep into the playoffs.

I wrote an article in the CI two games ago about this actually. When Leddy and Hjammer are getting the toughest zone starts on the defense and skate more often with the checking line than 7-2, something’s fucked up.

I think this team is really going to struggle in the playoffs
when the physical play ramps up and the scoring goes down.
Adding just one solid defender could potentially solve all d "problems".
Someone to pair with Leddy so that Monty can pair with Hjammer. That’s an extremely deep defense.

I hope that is true
given that the hawks have given up virtually more goals than any oher team in the NHL
82 games that’s why.
It’s impossible to ask of this for an entire season, especially in January in the second game of a back to back in the middle of a snowstorm.
If you want to complain about a bad defensive system try being a Packers fan.

It doesn't in most cases (Indianapolis, NO, New England, St. Louis)
but it needs to be competent … and it wasn’t even close in Green Bay this year.

The reason those teams won championships is because the D actually showed up. Indy had at least 1 pick six that I can think of against the Bears. The Saints had that epic pick six against Peyton to seal their Super Bowl. New England has only recently had a mediocre D. When they were winning they had a respectable D.
That being said, the Hawks D has been very good recently and they are not the only ones to blame. What about Frolik? I heard some meatball ask why “Baby Jagr” doesn’t get to play with Toews and Kane. Baby Jagr? Srsly? Jagr could score with any fucking schlub on his line, Frolik not so much. Yes, the kid is defensively responsible, but with his hands and IQ he needs to be adding the occasional goal that isn’t an empty netter.
Tonight, there were way too many cute passes. Throw the fucking puck on net. Pekka Rinne is an elite goalie and needs to be treated as such. Make his ass work for every save.
Hossa was the only guy that showed up and is the MVP of the team, no offense Jonny.

I think this is a really salient question
a much better one than any sort of “goalie controversy” one. Because if there is one thing that worried me as a Hawks fan most, it’s underperforming D.

They have a lot of offense, but their goaltending isn't the best
They’ve done good this month though. 8 games, 5 wins
they're one of the youngest squads in the AHL
and just recently graduated three more players to the NHL.
The boys sucked when he was in the lineup too.
He is obviously an important piece to the team but they sucked right from puck drop.

I didn’t mean for my 2nd post to be so negative, but what the F is up with Nashville’s crowd? Does the UC really collectively chant the opposing goalie’s name when they come into town? Or is it just cause its Tennessee?
Part of me is annoyed by it to.
But I also appreciate the fact that for a non-hockey market they get so into the game.
I've seen some people say it's a very college thing

Considering Nashville has many colleges and universities within a few miles of the arena...
and fans that began in a minor-league market, it’s not surprising.
I’m an ex-North Stars, ex-Hawks fan that embraced this team when I moved down to Nashville. They fought for their team and kept it here, more than Minnesotans could do.

I grew up listening to Lloyd Petit call Blackhawks games — he was one of the best US hockey broadcasters ever. I doubt the 2 posters replying have even heard of him. Go on YouTube and listen, as you might learn something.

Yeah, he trolls over at OtF too…we don’t care for his spew over there, either…not indicative of most Nashville fans. I stopped posting over there because a few people started complaining about language. It got to where if I said, “That was a bullshit call.”, I would get warned. That’s why I like it over here…knowledgeable fans and sweet, sweet profanity.
Ouch. If our mods cracked down on profanity, our threads would be considerably shorter.
Many of our posters consider the use of profanity as an art form.
