How does a referee, that is looking RIGHT AT STALBERG, not see the slash? Or see it and not call it? Then that no call allows them to score the goal to win the game. I understand with some hits you can swallow the whistle, but that play is still illegal, and should have been called.
How hard can it be?

No I said he made great saves tonight
Many, many, many more than any other game that he has played this season. With him playing as well as he was tonight and as good as he is when up against a breakaway I believe that shot could have been saved.
I’m not knocking the kid I have supported his ass all season and only recently started to lose my confidence in him (which he somewhat restored to some degree tonight). Countless times I have read someone asking when is Crawford gonna steal a game for the Hawks? Tonight was a game that was very stealable. The hawks got some calls as well as a bounce go their way for a goal and the D didn’t hang Crawford out to dry every other shift. The only blatant exception was the breakaway and for whatever reason Crawford couldn’t come up with it.

Regardless of what my opinion is I will never give up on this team. I have been through much leaner times over the past 32 years. And unlike some on here I don’t post just to complain all the time. I am actually impressed by this team more often than not. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I knew I would be the odd man out with the comment.

I probably could have worded it better than
“I blame Crawford for this loss” but oh well, it is what it is. The main point of the post was supposed to be that for everyone who was wondering when Crawford was gonna steal a game for them; this was a game that he could have stole.
Like I said I thought he played great but just came up on the short end of the stick tonight. If they play like this the rest of the trip they should be able to pull some much needed points.

it may also be that I’m in the category where I do not care about shutouts, nor do I expect us to have an all-star goalie in net. We spent the last few years saying how the strength of our team was in our skating – our talented forwards and all-star D – while wanting only a serviceable goalie.
To me, Crow was beyond serviceable tonight.

Just out of curiosity though. In regards to your statement of him making so many great saves that you couldn’t fault him for one that he missed. What would your opinion be if the final had been 1 – 0 Canucks and Crawford made great save throughout the game but let in a soft goal from the red line like the one against Nashville. Would you still hold the same opinion? Just curious.

Maybe I’m just a goalie apologist, or I just can’t get myself to get so worked up over something I watch for entertainment, but yea, my opinion stays pretty much the same. I might moan about it for a minute or so after the game ends, but then whatever. It happened.

I just looked at it tonight
In Scott’s last 5 games played, the TOI avg for 72 and Leddy all go up, Keith’s is easily 3 min per. We had no PK tonight and 2 PP and 72’s TOI is way above avg

Crawford was outclassed by a back-up, so be it.
One of the best backups in the league and would be the #1 or future #1 on a lot of other teams.
And he also has better numbers than the #1 on the team he is currently on.

I agree. A lot can be learned from some of the disagreements on this site.
But when one comes on with the sole intent of raising everyone’s hackles, nothing can be gained. The thread then devolves into a bunch of blather and venom and becomes thoroughly unenjoyable and may possibly chase off those who actually contribute.

I think dissenting opinions are not only acceptable, but encouraged. There have been quite a few somewhat “heated” exchanges where everyone comes through unscathed. However, there are times when certain people piss everyone off for the sake of pissing them off and they manage to change the entire tone of a thread single-handedly.

Just like Tuke said above, one goalie stole a victory, the other hasn’t all season. But let’s all continue to ignore a season .902 Sv% from our team’s starter and jump all over anyone who suggests it would be nice to see Crawford play better than “average.”
The guy makes a couple of nice saves and suddenly he’s infallible. Yet I watch goalie after goalie makes numerous great saves against the Hawks every game.
Schneider saw A LOT more breakaways than Crawford, yet Schneider .949 Sv%, Crow .909.
The topic should be on the table for discussion.

I do from time to time and luckily I don’t get piled on for the opinion that Crawford isn’t doing the Hawks any favors this year. In fact, the only opinion I got any shit for this year was my dislike for Dennis Carrello. Well there was also my insistence that John Scott won’t lose us any games with his play.

not blaming Crow, but still tapping my fingers waiting for a Hawks goalie win. I don’t understand why that concept should seem so absurd or too much to expect of a NHL goalie.
I’m not upset or freaking out though. I understand that Crow is the expected goalie of the future. He’s got the contract. Crow is the #1 and the Hawks are going to ride him until he improves or they can’t afford to anymore. As it should be.

I have supported and continue to support him. I just figured that if there was a game that could have been stolen by Crawford this was it. I’m still holding on to the hope that he finds whatever made him so spot on last season and finds it sooner rather than later. he did play good tonight so it’s a step in the right direction.

The site was never unregulated. Before there were mods, the regulars policed the thread in mob-justice. I'm confused on what you disagree with....
before mods were instituted, the ToS had only banned 1 person. and justice was swift, because it was the commenters who would descend upon the troll and basically troll them until they left. It was called a thunderdome for a reason.
It’s only when people started to email the ToS saying that the mob justice made people too scared to comment that they called us into the principal’s office, and then created mods because the thunderdome was to cease.

you’ll see a number of people come out who say they were lurking because they felt uncomfortable posting. Relative to the number of people who comment on this site, it may be a small chunk, but it is a true.

The site is filled with those with some incredible hockey knowledge and those with wry, caustic humor. I can see how those on the outside looking in could be initially intimidated, and this site might not be for everybody. But this, to me, is the best hockey blog community I have been a part of, by far.
