Olsen And Shaw Up, Monty And Kruger To IR
Couple roster moves just announced. Dylan Olsen and Andrew Shaw have been called up. To make room, Steve Montador and Marcus Kruger -- who in no way was mishandled at all or anything -- have been move to Injured Reserved. Kruger is basically eligible to come off of that whenever, and Montador should be available on Saturday at the earliest.
As for the new call-ups, clearly the most interesting one is Olsen. I don't watch much of Rockford, but our guy in the know Chris Block at The Third Man In has labeled Olsen the only untouchable the Hawks have in the system. While he's still got some ways to go, he plays with the snarl and edge the Hawks might lack. He's still learning the pro game but has made huge strides this season. Does that mean he's ready for third pairing minutes? Almost certainly not, and it's one thing to deal with AHL forwards and then have Scott Hartnell back up in your ass with the resurrection, as he will be tomorrow. But it'll be fun to get a look at what the future might bring.
Shaw seems destined for a pretty short, lively career. At a generous 5-10 he's essentially been a bowling ball in the AHL, hurling himself at everything and anything to create space for his linemates. Again, according to Block, Brandon Pirri's game didn't take off until he had Shaw with him being a meteor for him to find some openings. One thing to do that there, another in the Show. Still, any physicality will be welcome on the Hawks, and he'll probably have a chance to kick in right away on the fourth line with Mayers and Hayes (I assume Brunette is moving up to play with Toews and Hossa, so I can be proven wrong about what I've been calling for pretty much all season).
Half-season assessment coming up this afternoon.

What have you been calling for all season, Sam?
Because you’re wrong, just like the rest of us were. Shaw skating with Toews and Sharp. That’s… different.
Stals with Kane and Hossa.
3rd line status quo
Jammer with Bruno and Hayes round it out.

i think stals has done well with bolly as well so wouldnt’ have minded him there, but then that leaves the hole on the 2nd.

works for me...
since it’s not like the line generator won’t see it’s way into the game if these lines flail. The guys have to execute, and I see no reason why they can’t against Philly.
does this mean
Olsen will be paired with Keith? Or would they put Olsen with Hammer and pair Leddy with O’Donnell/ Lepisto/ Scott?

Not surprised
as I said in the morning links comments, the prevailing logic dictates pairing a young call-up with an experienced veteran to help him find his way and neither Lepisto nor Scott really fit that bill.

Yeah, OD is slow and old, but who ya gonna pair him with otherwise? Keith and Leddy take too many chances and would leave him out to dry, Seabrook and Hammer would be redundant.

This season Stan isn’t afraid to put the Ice Hogs out on the ice. I don’t quite get it.

I hope he soon looks to spend some of the 5.5 mil in cap room to get us one or two players with good sucessful NHL experience. We need a center and a D-man.
.. slag ..
I mentioned this yesterday
while there was some speculation / rumination about it before, now with Kruger on the shelf for the foreseeable future the ‘Hawks have a pretty glaring hole in need of filling in the top 6. A center would be nice, but both Kane and Sharp have shown that they’re more than capable of playing that 2C role. Thus while a center may be preferable, Stan would be a fool to limit himself and not look to make the best possible trade for the best possible forward regardless of of whether or he’s a center or a winger.

I agree
but Sharp is more productive with Kane or Hoss. He doesn’t seem to know what to do when he is on the ice with Toews.
he hasn't looked overly productive when he's been paired with Kane so far this year, imo
he was obviously badass with Hossa. But I feel like he and Toews are doing well enough now that he can get going with Toews as well, no matter their chemistry in the past.

why does

The fact he is on a checking line
makes no sense. He really does not understand (or else choose to participate) in defense.
Sure, Bickell can't play defense - and Q knows this
That’s why he gives Bickell the toughest zones starts against the highest QualComp of any winger on the Hawks. The only Hawk who faces the “toughs” more is Bolland. And yet Bickell has a positive Corsi.
I love when people suggest that a minimum wage player who can hold his own against the league’s best needs to get shipped out of town.

Hold My Stones
I tend to agree with you
To be honest, I’d even be fine with Jammer getting a little burn at 2C. The guy wins faceoffs. Doesn’t add a whole lot on offense but if Kane and Hossa are flanking you, who needs it?
by JesusMarianHossa on Jan 4, 2012 11:48 AM CST up reply actions
My reasoning is this (and I'm sure CNS will chime in soon)
Havlat Bolland Ladd
Hossa Bolland Ladd
Frolik Bolland Bickell
Bolland needs some help.
Hold My Stones
I tend to agree here
The 3rd line has been fine defensively. About the same as last season. Where they’ve struggled is offensively, and no one on the Hawks has struggled more than Bolland.
Most of Bolly’s whopping 15 points (8g/7a) have actually come on special teams (5g/4a). 3 goals and 3 assists at EV in 35 games? I’m amazed that his name seldom comes up for discussion/criticism here.
Obviously Bickell and Frolik haven’t been much better (especially when you take out Frolik’s ENGs). Some of it is PDO (last year Bicks and Bolly led the Hawks, this year they’re 2nd and 3rd from last), but it’s obviously much more than that.
Bolland needs help to elevate his game, if possible. And Bickell and Frolik need a center who can provide some offense. Bolland doesn’t seem too interested in that this year. When Stalberg was on the 3rd line, it was he and Bickell who provided the offensive spark with some nice plays down low. Bolland remained invisible.
Hawks are surviving though because the 1st and 2nd lines are picking up the slack.

I think he is not/should not be untouchable in a trade
Package him with some others and ……But they are sitting on top and improving with the goal diff so why not finish out the year with Bolly? Lepisto on the other hand, is so highly regarded that Olsen was called up. Is Lepisto going to play or sit? You would think that he would have been the 1st answer, but no, Olsen is called up. Why are he and Scott here if they can’t handle some playing time?
Hold My Stones
I don't think Bickell's untouchable
but probably more so than what flies off the fingertips around here. Hawks need those value contracts and Bickell would make an excellent 4th liner if it came to that, especially for the price. I’d say that Stalberg, Bickell and Mayers are the best value contracts the Hawks have. They’re keepers unless the trade package has a value contract coming back.
It’s pretty obvious Lepisto is as good as gone if they can package him in a deal. He’d get playing time on a team that’s selling. I don’t see Scott going anywhere though. He’s improved since last year, so Q probably keeps him round.
I know this might sound nuts, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Scott is mentoring Leddy. Have you noticed that Leddy has been hitting everything in sight for the past month or so? He uses the exact same technique as Scott. Skate alongside the opponent, get a glove up high on him, push him off balance, and ride him into the boards. Leddy’s not taking the hits like he was earlier this season, he’s giving them out more than he’s getting. I think Scott has become to Leddy what Turco was to Crow last year. He knows what to do but lacks the ability to do it himself. I’m obviously speculating, but the similarity is uncanny.
by ChicagoNativeSon on Jan 5, 2012 8:57 AM CST up reply actions
I guess you haven't been paying attention to the recent faceoff stats
Mayers has been terrible at faceoffs recently. His overall percentage this year isn’t bad but that’s because he was doing really good. Lately, no.
He was supposed to be
the 2C of the future, and he looked like it in ‘08-’09:
stats!
Notice that he’s never played even close to a full season since then, and his numbers are down. I don’t know whether that’s because he chose to focus on defense, but he’s never been the same offensive player since he got hurt in the cup year.
Now make like a tree and get out of here

I like that Q is putting 81 with 88
Kane mired in a small slump. Hoss will get him going. I think that 2nd line could be pretty solid. Little concerned about Vik, but let’s see how it goes. He’s been playing well, just wish there was a real center between 81 and 88 and not Kane at the pivot.
by JesusMarianHossa on Jan 4, 2012 11:50 AM CST reply actions
the good thing about 88's slump, is he's still getting and generating quality chances every game.
Just make sure you get your skinny little ass back on defense so you don’t generate opportunity for the opposition

Olsen , while still raw , likes to keep the front of the net clean and clear. He can make the smart outlet pass and removes people off the puck along the boards. Hasn’t unleashed his heavy shot as often as he should and is still learning defensive assignments.
Shaw is the ultimate pain in the ass. Has a knack for finding the net, he already has 12 goals. He is small , but as tough as they come. Fearless with dropping the gloves , he has somehow survived many fights against opponents whom are much much bigger then him. Shaw will go to bat for anyone. Nearly killed one of our propects in training camp with a open ice hit…then went on to score two goals.

If you recall...
Shaw kicked Olsen’s ass in the prospects camp this past summer.
I have only watched about 5 Hog games this year, so certainly no expert. Olsen has struck me as slow on decision making. Translates to good intentions but often spotty execution. Like the son of Monty/ O’Donnell.
Shaw will be interesting. The second coming of Dino Ciccarelli in stature and instigator tendencies. A huge pain in the ass. But he could become our huge pain in the ass.
I am hoping that he sticks. Like a piece of gum on your worst enemy’s shoe.
Isn’t he a center though?
i've only seen Olsen in practice...
but the guy is big. While I’m not expecting much out of him, I’m glad he’s getting a taste of the NHL. These evaluations need to be made now, before trading away for pieces we may come to regret.

do I need to check on how Huet is doing in Switzerland?
Question for all you young golaies out there. I’ve heard, don’t know it it’s true, that the backhand is one of the trickiest shots to stop. Hard to read where it’s going – true or false. One of my friends said Crawford was probably concerned with the other two Oilers converging in on the play – but he said he should have realized it was Eager and most likely eager would take the shot.
I think I read Sam said hall’s wrister was a softy, I’d have to look at it again by I thought the shot was wicked. I remember thinking when I saw the replay, “Dang, he put some mustard on that one.”
Yes backhanders are known to be the toughest shots to stop at close range
Because of their unpredictability. However Eager was quite far from the net and Crow should have stopped that.
by LavalPhantom on Jan 4, 2012 12:55 PM CST up reply actions
to me
its the skate one way shoot the other aspect that is the most difficult to stop, and that is what eager did. but that can also be executed on the forehand.
making a goalie travel laterally while shooting far side is a tough save to make, because your angle is always changing and you have to compensate. there is a good chance you can get a goalie to overcompensate and leave more room on the far side in that scenario.
Yeah, skate left - shoot right (or vice versa) is tough on 'tenders.
particularly if the shot is on (or near) the ice.
Every goalie I’ve every played with has said they don’t know why players insist on going back-hand to forehand in order to get a shot off (particularly in tight). Everyone of them has said the back hand is a tough read, half the time total fan jobs end up squeaking by. This makes a lot of sense because even the player shooting a backhand has poor control over its velocity and accuracy to some degree…
You are next.

The inner meathead in me loves shaw
that kid is a freak, pitbull of a hockey player. Small with an attitude the size of jupiter but packaged with skill. he seemed to be the only icehog in it for the whole game when i saw them play the wolves last week, scored 2 goals that game along with 19 pim.

I've got a good feeling about the game tomorrow
Shaw and Olsen in their first NHL action, champin’ at the bit to prove their mettle and show what they’ve got. Kaner paired with Hossa for 5-on-5, where he did some serious damage early in the season, combined with a demotion to the #2 PP unit that ought to fire him up and could put him into fuck you mode. Returning to Philly for the first time since hoisting the cup there. A penchant for playing their best against top-tier teams. All good signs, IMO

I watched replays of that punch
and I think it may have been the hit that Krugs took in the corner on his first shift that caused the set back. Nash’s punch to me didn’t seem to be real solid or real hard. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the punch didn’t help matters any, but the hit he took in the corner with his head down seemed much worse.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
I don't know
The punch definitely didn’t help his case. There must be a reason why punching behind the head is forbidden in boxing.
No it definately didn't help
and I’m positive that it caused whatever damage that was already present to become worse. I was just saying that in my opinion the hit he took in the corner was more physically detrimental than the punch. Together though, they just compounded the problems to an already injured brain.
No worries, this was the plan all along!
Already had a look at Morin

Morin hasn't been able to put the puck on net even if it was painted on the side of a barn.
or so i read from Chris Block over at Third Man In.
Its a little worrisome considering the kind of scoring winger he has been billed to become. I just hope he finds his touch and doesn’t have any lingering effects from his concussion or recovery.

he got his chance - they may be letting him find his game down with the hogs before calling him back up
"Well now you're just talking like Foghorn Leghorn!"
I don't consider a three or four game stint much of a chance for any call up.
It kind of bothers me when fans (not talking about you specifically, just in general) say this or that player had a shot and didn’t do much with it.
A three or four game call up (as was Morin’s) seems like more of a place holder situation for a short term roster hole (minor injury or illness to a regular or two). It’s kind of hard to show much or get into any kind of rhythm in just a couple of games, especially with the kind of personell juggling Q tends to do.
If they’re up here for a couple of weeks getting fairly regular shifts and don’t show much, then I’d be the first to say that more minor league seasoning is required. But until given that chance it seems premature to draw any definitive conclusions.
(And by the way, I thought Morin did a fine job with the limited time he had in his recent short lived stint. Even though he didn’t dent the score sheet I thought he displayed solid NHL level awareness and decision making and will be a solid two way player when he gets a long term look in the show.)

i see what you are saying but i think our roster is basically set
except for fill in’s as you say. I don’t see any harm in giving other players a shot to come up when needed to see how they will do. I’m not saying he didn’t do much with it, but he’s had his opportunity to come up to the big club, and its time for another one to get a shot. I like Morin, and thought he did fantastic the first time he came up, but didn’t think he did as great this time. He’s also not currentlylighting the world on fire with the Ice Hogs either, so I feel like given our current position, we have the opportunity to try out the other guys we have high hopes for on the roster.

I remain amazed that both the city and the league allow the fans at that dump in Philly to behave that way. In the crowded men’s room while you’re taking a leak wearing a visiting team’s jersey, everyone gets up behind you and screams “Asshole” into your ears.
A couple teenage girls I know who work at the UC were in Philly for the same finals game that I was and they took lots of abuse…I mean abusing 18 and 19 year old girls dressed in cute Hawks stuff….WTF the lack of class is amazing.
Another friend who sits near me at the UC was hit in the head with a thrown beer right in front of their security who did absolutely nothing.

I’ve certainly seen my share of this when I lived in Philly. I think it’s worse there than other high-passion cities but it’s certainly not the only place.
I’m pretty sure every time I’ve seen this, in any city, at least one person has been visibly drunk. The margin on beer sales is enormous, too tempting to pass up. I haven’t been to a game anywhere in a long time so I don’t know what the door policies are but I would have no problem screening people at the gate for inebriation.

you’re talking about a city where they feel their prime cultural contribution to the world is a statue of Rocky Balboa, because that whole Independence Hall, Liberty Bell thing is for pussies, apparently.
An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it. (Jef Mallett)
actually
the Rocky thing is a mixed bag. Yes the “never quit” reputation is good but there is some ambivalence about it, both because it’s been appropraited by the rest of the world so it loses cred and because it is exclusively blue-collar. People in Philly ignore the Liberty Bell the same way New Yorkers ignore the Statute of LIberty. But the world-class art museum and orchestra matter to the public, as well as the largest collection of Rodin sculptures outside of Paris, and the new Barnes Foundation, and its new reputation as a dining center, etc. Having lived there 15 years I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard anyone suggest that Independence Hall was for pussies. They were called tourists, just like they are everywhere else.

Slow your roll there FFIC.
I suppose I’d get defensive if my city was getting slagged, but what you’re saying actually plays into my message: that the same folks verbally abusing kids, booing O Canada, jacking guys up while they’re just trying to take a piss, etc., are the folks who insist that Rocky is the enduring symbol of the city.
The same people that are horrified at that behavior are the ones who are also proud of the art museums and rich history of the city.
An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it. (Jef Mallett)
That makes sense, as far as generalizations go. Didn’t mean to sound defensive. I don’t actually consider it my city, having not been born there and having lived in several places since I moved away. It is more blue collar than most large cities where I’ve spent time, and identifies itself with its sports teams a lot.

first time I viewed that atrocity I still couldn’t believe that the city with so many of the architectural wonders of the world allowed that shitbag touristas piece of crapola to go up opposite the Wrigley building.
Thankfullly, it was widely panned
(by everyone but the gaggles of tourists and suburbanites flocking to get their pictures taken peeking of Marilyn’s skirt). My understanding is that it was the landlord or something that put it up. Ironically, it was the same folks who last year put up a wonderful re-creation of Grant Wood’s American Gothic, which is one of the Art Institute’s centerpieces. That was a bit hokey, but at least it made sense (de facto capital of the midwest, the Art Inst.). The Marilyn thing was just . . . . baffling. I think we all hope they don’t fuck up like that again!

One thing the Hayes, Olsen, and Shaw callups signal...
is that someone at the top understands this team lacks grit. Hopefully they will do more by or at the deadline.
Without Jammer this team would almost be as soft as last year.
They need their hits per game back closer to 2010 levels. Wishful thinking probably but that is what will be needed this playoff.
Someone send Bickell to a hypnotist or give him extra sugar/caffeine/sudafed before the game. Either that or just make him an usher.
were our hits really that much different in 2010? I thought we were always kind of on the low side

"Well now you're just talking like Foghorn Leghorn!"
Don't equate physical play
with hits. They are not synonymous.
I did specifically say hits but
would add physical play. They may not be synonymous but certainly related.
You can’t expect a team with a core like the Hawks to be at the top in hits but they should at least have some true checkers.
The nice thing about 10 was they had 2nd tier players (Ladd, Versteeg, Brouwer – even Eager at times) who could supply both the hits, the edge, and the scoring.
Stals may become a player like that…. Maybe Shaw and Hayes. But the time is now.
And Buff....
He was a league leader in hits that year. That was always one of the most annoying complaints people had about him.

"Well now you're just talking like Foghorn Leghorn!"
do you know what their numbers have been the last couple seasons?
I’m curious because the team was considered “soft” for the same reason (lack of hits) during the 2010 run, and look where that got us.
Also, don’t puck possession teams typically have lower hit stats since you’re not trying to separate your opponent from the puck when you already have it a lot of the time? I could understand an argument that our puck possession has not been as good lately, though, so I’d probably rather see improvement there than guys running around hitting people just to get the numbers up.
I don't know about hits per game but here are total hit stats
11-12:
Home-441
Road-250
Total-691
10-11:
Home-1062
Road-792
Total-1824
09-10:
Home-876
Road-679
Total-1555
08-09:
Home-736
Road-784
Total-1520
I'd really be curious
about a correlation between # of hits and time spent with a lead. My gut tells me that how much you’re hitting depends a great deal on whether you’re trailing or leading in a game. When you’re ahead, you’re a target, when you’re behind, you make the other guys a target. I imagine it’s part frustration and part trying to get the puck back so you can even things up.
An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it. (Jef Mallett)

Hits
are also subjective as hell. Except for 08-09, home hits far exceeded road hits. Does that really mean that we hit substantially less on the road, or does it mean that the home scorekeepers are more generous with what gets called a hit?
An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it. (Jef Mallett)
agreed.
I think the stat is pretty much a joke because it is so subjective, and because it doesn’t reflect other aspects of the game (score, puck possession, etc). Like I said, I just think it’s funny that we were “soft” last year and we’re probably going to have 400 less hits this year when we’re “tougher.”
We were softer last year......
…..Stals ,last year was getting clobbered by everyone…..no one jumped in to help. This year against the Ducks, Brookbank gives Stal a face full of glove , Jammer jumped on Brookbank quickly , that was the end of Brookbank’s antics. Carcillo goes after Reaves, when Reaves clobbered Kane , Scott goes after Elkland after he clobbers Kruger. Don’t need more hits or fights ……just well timed hits or fights.

We've debated the topic a bit on FTF
And yes, there’s a very vocal segment of the fanbase who thinks the team is soft, and they’ll throw the hit stat out there.
It’s a flawed stat like +/-, but in context, I think it’s still useful.
The counter to the soft argument is usually the Fenwick %. The Sharks are one of the better 5v5 teams in the league by Fenwick, which would tend to tell you they tend to have the puck a lot and are playing with the lead.
If you have the puck and the lead, chances are, you’re not hitting people.
I don’t know the ‘Hawks Fenwick off hand, but I’m pretty sure you guys sit pretty in that stat this season as well. Hence, lower hit totals. Too busy scoring goals to hit people.

while at NHL.com
I took a peek at the old conference table
Man, the Pacific is the “Special” Division this year (I know the Sha-Arks have 478 Games in hand but they have to win them, right?)

Look at the Kings.. they’d be good for..uh.. Sixth in the Central.. and, without the seeding, would be just creeping into the Playoff picture on Goal Difference from the Avs.. craziness…
"Kevin, You can't play Doom Metal while wearing a scarf"
How the mighty have fallen
The Pacific used to be a bloodbath.
The Doughty hold out and the lack of offense has killed the Kings. Anaheim is finally playing to their roster level. The Stars are adapting to live after Richards. And Phoenix is running out of the Tippet magic. And I still have no idea what version of the Sharks will take the ice on any given night. Our season will be decided during the February road trip. Either we’re a division winner, or we’re looking around for point handouts in March to make the dance.
On the other hand, the Central is suddenly packed to the gills with non-suckitude.

excluding the Beej of course..
They have enough Suckitude for three Divisions.
I still think the Sharks will come good and will top that Division.. but they’re looking a long way from the Champions an awful lot of Professional Writers were picking pre-season. that said, it’s only half-way.. there’s twists and turns yet in the road.
"Kevin, You can't play Doom Metal while wearing a scarf"
If you replaced the Sharks and the Avs, you pretty much have all the cool teams in the Western Conference in the playoffs.
Sure the Oilers are cool, but rivalry wise, it would be awesome for the Hawks.

yeah! good point
there’s not a single match-up there that you wouldn’t get excited about.. and there would be blood on the walls (not literally.. except for a St Louis Series, of course)

This would be a great year to beat them all
St. Louis-Vanoucver and Detroit in that order if I could pick. Then we beat them all and win the Cup and declare ourselves Champions of the Western Conference forever (as it goes away).

I'm going to reconsider
with realignment, the ability to beat Detroit in the WCF is gone, we could still face Van in the final four, I’m flipping to Detroit
Just to beat them again when they are so close to getting to the Finals
I am strongly reconsidering though. Beating Detroit in the WCF would be pretty sweet

I think its obvious to anyone that the Hawks are missing a top 6 player: C preferred, LW accepted.
However, I have yet to see anyone point to anyone in particular they want to fill that roll. We’ve got about 2 months before the deadline so it might just be a little early for trade wishes. Does anyone have anything? I’d like to see what people are thinking and even more than that, what you think it would cost in prospects to get there.

I think the fact that Gilbert wasn't hurt too badly
was a factor. Shan always cites the level of injury to the victim. Somewhat surprised they didn’t try to pin RNH injury on him too, just for being Dan Carcillo. But I agree, seven games is somewhat light.
If graffiti changed anything it would be illegal
Gilbert himself
said he knew it was Carcillo coming, knew he was lining up a big one and said he should have taken a better angle. Not in any way excusing Carcillo, but it sounds like Gilbert admitted he put himself in a vulnerable position. Haven’t seen the video but perhaps that impacted the number.

so i asked this question earlier
and i think it got lost in the shuffle, so i’ll try it again:
what’s wrong with putting fro on the 2nd line with kaner and hoss? it seems that fro’s defensive prowess could be useful in offsetting kaner’s lapses. it also occurs to me that if fro is on the ice with 88 and 81, he could start to find that offensive game that supposedly used to exist.

I think Fro's in the doghouse right now.
Yes, he’s defensively responsible but he’s getting paid $2m to provide some secondary scoring and it just hasn’t been there. I saw a quote from Q the other day where he said Fro needs to pick up his game (mainly offensively). There’s also the thought that since Fro sometimes takes bad shots, he kind of ruins the cycle and/or chances for guys with better shots (Kane and Hossa) who you want to be taking shot attempts. Hopefully you get that last sentence, the word “shot” is in there too many times, I think.

because if he’s going to be out with the injury for a while the ’Hawks would like to have him serve his suspension before placing him on IR

He got off easy on the suspension
…but I think he has to be certified as healthy and off the IR before he can serve it. Right? Meaning the total amount of time he’s unavailable will be (recovery time from the knee problem)+(7 game suspension). Could be a while.

this is what I thought and what the beat writers said on Twitter
but someone said yesterday this was not the case and the suspension is served immediately even if he can’t play. I wish there was a concrete answer on this.
by Katherine215 on Jan 4, 2012 11:12 PM CST up reply actions
I sent an email to Tracy asking her where she is getting her information.
Cause I can’t find anything in the CBA or NHL rulebook that states you have to be healthy to serve a suspension. The Blackhawks official site says the following:
Carcillo will miss games Jan. 5 at Philadelphia, Jan. 6 vs. Colorado, Jan. 8 vs. Detroit, Jan. 10 vs. Columbus, Jan. 12 vs. Minnesota, Jan. 14 at Detroit and Jan. 15 vs. San Jose. He will be eligible to return Jan. 18 vs. Buffalo
Until somebody comes back with something official, I still think the beat writers are wrong and the Blackhawks website is correct.
This seems concrete to me.
The Hawks would know, right? Thanks for sharing.

Since Carcillo hasn't been put on IR
he should be eligible to play the next 7 games. Right now he’s listed with an undisclosed injury and wasn’t able to practice on Tuesday. Although I doubt it, he could be considered healthy enough to play against the Flyers tonight.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene."
Dear Marcus Krueger:
Get well soon. – We are all hoping for a total (not a speedy) recovery. Hang in there kid.
"What doesn't kill us makes us stronger"
Excited to see Olsen
This kid is legit. Potential is there to be a top 4 defensemen within two years. Montador is one of the rare mistakes of the Stan Bowman era…he’s a pretend defenseman and fancies himself as a Brian Campbell clone. He’s been a lot more dreadful than many of us care to admit, so I won’t miss him sitting on the IR for a week. Even when you’re the 5th d-man, there are expectations for blueline work that have to be met. O’Donnell and Scott are equally “effective” in the blueline department compared to Montador. That says something bad.
Kruger? Hope the kid heals. He’s a huge talent. To watch him skate? Move the puck? Think two moves ahead? A thing of beauty. He can be a Dave Bolland type that scores, meaning a center of great value in the NHL. Just heal kid.
The Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup in 2010.
He's prone to the occasinoal mistake.
But name me a hawk who isn’t right now (and isn’t named Hossa or Toews.)
I wouldn’t call Monty Dreadful, but I see your point. Turnovers, bad positioning, but these are team symptoms, not just Monty symptoms.
