Let me make sure I understand
They get unlucky in one and play poorly in the other before the Break, losing both. Come back, play very well in VanCity but get a tad unlucky and lose in OT. Then lose in Edmonton when they decide to award a lucky fan the opportunity to play goal. So yes, four games lost in a row, but really not a bad performance from the team.

The problem is that the Hawks didn't really play well in any of those games you mentioned.

They were out of sorts in the defensive end in ALL of them, the PP was ineffective, and the Hawks were outplayed for at least one full period in all of them.

The closest thing we’ve seen in this thread is ‘this team is playing like shit, when they have the talent to beat anybody. As fans, we deserve to see moves made toward REAL improvement, rather than continuing to hear the party line that everything will sort itself out or cling to hope that some magical pick-up before the deadline will solve all our problems.’
And furthermore, looking at a giant pile of shit and saying ‘there is nothing wrong with this’ isn’t any more helpful attitude-wise. It’s called being delusional.

Meh, I agree in most cases.
Halo is built around being a console FPS. The entire balance of the combat is skewed to be a slower, more tactical process than the super-fast stuff like Quake, UT, COD, etc.
As somebody that loved and was fucking amazing at Quake 3, I still appreciate Halo for everything it does so well.

I’ve always loved the uniforms. In the days of Savard and Larmer and Secord and Wilson and the organ player they were my second favorite team. Then when the team disappeared, sort of like Western Civilization during the Dark/Wirtz Ages, I forgot about them.
Now I follow them only because of SCH. If it weren’t for SCH I’d probably root against the Hawks if they were playing a lot of teams in the playoffs because you just won a Cup and (some) other teams and fanbases deserve happiness.

But the rest of the division doesn’t seem to be slowing down aka they figure out how to win.
We can’t even seem to out a complete game together on either end of the ice or as a whole.

Remember when a certain team made the playoffs on the last day
last season, and almost beat the Presidents’ Trophy winners in OT of game 7? Who in turn made it to game 7 of the Finals?
Or the year before when the Flyers also snuck in on the last day of the season and faced the Hawks in the Finals?
Or MTL who tied the Flyers and beat WSH, the Pres Trophy winner, in the first round?
The list goes on and on…
And this losing streak could possibly be the best thing that could have happened to the Hawks. The flaws are getting exposed. Better now than later. And better RIGHT now because Stan might be willing to do more to fix the problems than if they weren’t as obvious.

They have been a "rival" for a few years
We will not care about them very soon. Most long term rivalries only last due to location. There is a reason why Chicago sports fans tend to hate teams from Mi, Wisco, Indiana, St. Louis Area.
I never really got that deep into the Canucks hate, sure they were obnoxious during the playoffs and say dumb things, but so do the Hawks.
Who cares about points? Really?
It’s about putting together the best team for the playoffs. Maybe now they’ll do that.

I remember all of that...
And agree that this could be the slump that turns the Hawks into one of those teams. The Conference seems to be flushing out so that we don’t have to back in, but we’re seeming like more of one of those surprise teams in the postseason than one of the favored teams. Not that that matters. We have all the pieces to contend, for the most part. But at the moment we seem like a team trying to find chemistry.
And I’ll be honest, on the Cup run the Hawks seemed to get all of the bounces and shots. Does not seem that way this year. Even the calls, not going our way.
That said, appreciate your yin to my posts yang. Think these guys have the stuff, just need to put it together.

How does this get fixed?
SB can bring someone in but there is something not clicking with this team that I just can figure out. Sometimes they panic, sometimes they turtle, and yet other times it seems like they give up. Last year I was dumbfounded by their bi polar-ness, but this year I am totally lost as to what exactly is the problem.
They have great players, great coaches, but…………… I don’t know.

I think that is going to be
the biggest obstacle. There are some D men out there who may be able to provide some relief but there seems to be an even bigger shortage of forwards that can help out. Stan needs to find a deal that works and helps the club quickly before the spiral picks up speed.

I'm wondering if the CBA issues has something to do with some guys signing extensions
ie, did they sign now because they weren’t sure they would get a better deal when the new CBA is done. It seems testing the FA market would have gotten them better deals in other years

Those last five minutes were pretty bad… dump the fucking puck… they were not putting any pressure on the Hawks at all. You will not be able to carry it in, simple as that.
Not the end of the world, but its like this team expects to come out and score a ton of goals and if they don’t then they start to panic.
Earlier in the year many said that they cannot continue to play catchup and expect to win. This is that time.

Not an issue of "spirt" or "fire n passion"
For the past two years this team has had trouble putting in a full three period effort. I am sure its not because of just one thing either.
I just noticed at times it seems like they just expected to come out and win.
I remember game 5 vs Vancouver that year was at home on mothers day. The only guy I recall giving a shit that game was Toews. This is a trend, perhaps.
Can’t dispute this. But in general it’s not unusual after a disaster like last night to drop the shoulders after the third goal tonight. “Let’s get the fuck out of Alberta.” Not a bright shining moment for a team but it happens.
Like I said, don’t follow the team enough to know whether this is a problem more than for other teams.

But I can’t tell if it’s due to our PK sucking or our PP sucking.
I’ve definitely noticed that our PK structure gives a ton of time and space to the point men, but is also vulnerable to the cross ice pass and doesn’t clear the front of the net very well. How does that happen?

So your strategy is to NOT wrestle with the guys in front of the net. Corsi says a goalie should be able to handle shots from the points and is good enough to see past the screen. Great that means the forwards don’t have to play tight on the defenseman.
All that put together allows the PK unit to take away the cross ice passes. So I’m with Panda here, how does the cross ice passes happen with that defensive strategy?

Forwards not moving their feet
Maybe taking the last two games into account is a bad idea because there could be some legitimate energy issues with the back to back, but our PK forwards (in general) really don’t seem to move their feet very quickly. Just lots of stick waving. Toews is a notable exception, and maybe Shaw, who probably moves around too much.

I noticed that early in the season
when they were having so much trouble getting set up. I watch other teams and their passing is crisp and organized. The Hawks have no organization in their PP. Once they stopped attempting the backdoor play everytime down the ice it almost seems like they forgot or have no idea what to do out there.
