I know many posters here are either vets or connected to vets, so I wanted to spread the word about a program my office is affiliated with geared towards local national guard vets. The project is looking for local national guard vets to help soldiers coming back from deployment with reintegrating into civilian life. The project focuses on national guard members because the majority of recent vets in Illinois are or have been in the national guard. A program description is pasted in below. If you're interested or would like further information, email me at email@example.com, and I'll put you in touch with people coordinating the project.
Call for Volunteer Vets
The Illinois National Guard is actively pursuing qualified Veteran Volunteers to support the Illinois Warrior to Warrior program. National Guard Soldiers face a unique challenge when coming off of deployment, trying to reintegrate back into their community. The Warrior to Warrior Volunteer Veteran will be the link for Soldiers; guiding them to the right resource and ensuring that they receive the care that they need.
A good volunteer Veteran candidate is:
* Available 10-15 hours per month
* Eager to learn about community resources
* Enthusiastic about serving Veterans
We are currently piloting this program in the Chicago-land area with an end goal of providing every National Guard unit in Illinois with a Warrior to Warrior Volunteer Veteran. Please help us in disseminating this information to any Veterans you think may want to serve the National Guard and its newest Veterans.
Again, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more informaiton. I can send you copies of a volunteer recruitment letter, a tri-fold brochure detailing the program, and an application form to be filled out by prospective volunteers.
