When you look in the system and at the current NHL roster who is valuable to other teams? That is the first question you have to ask, so you get the most in return. For example, people aren't going to take Michael Frolik and Bryan Bickell. Then you have to ask what are the true needs of the team? I believe, and a lot of other fans believe the number one need is a second line center, followed closely by a top four defenseman. The rest of the needs are fourth line pluggers and a board battling, go to the front of the net, power forward, who can finish. Step back and face facts, we need to get better on special teams and deeper up the middle, and add more depth on defense. We need PK help badly, and net front presence badly, if you get 3-4 players I think that can help out a ton. Penalty Kill is a mentality, and we don't have enough shot blocking hard working guys. Two guys could change that guys like John Madden or Boyd Gordon who I wanted last year badly but those guys don't fit the mold of a Stanbo signing. He goes for finesse instead of grit almost all the time.
Here is a list of players in the system who would be valued by other teams. Phillip Danault, Kevin Hayes, Ben Smith, Brandon Saad, and maybe Jeremy Morin but he missed ten months with a concussion. Now look at the current roster of tradeable players, who I think could be moved and hope the management team would think could be moved for the right price, Dave Bolland, Jimmy Hayes, Marcus Kruger, Andrew Shaw, Patrick Sharp, Nick Leddy, Ducan Keith. Now, some of these guys the team would need to get a lot back for trading them, other guys not as much but I think there is value there. This is what I believe that you would be looking at if you want to move guys. Dave Bolland for example the price would have to be right, you would have to get a lot back for moving one of the best shutdown centers in the league. Patrick Sharp same theory you would have to get a hell of a lot in return and Keith as well. Is a Nick Leddy or Andrew Shaw somebody the organization wouldn't mind seeing gone, because they do have a ton of potential, and could be very valuable in a few years to the Blackhawks. That is why they could be traded. Other franchises could value there potential and be willing to give something back in return.
It should be an interesting offseason of speculation by fans and hopefully execution by management to fill some key holes on the current roster. We shall wait and see what happens.
