With the No. 18 pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks have selected Teuvo Teravainen, a Left Wing playing for Jokerit in the Finnish Elite League.
A native of Helsinki, Finland, Teravainen was ranked as the second overall European skater by NHL Central Scouting, and ranked 7th overall by TSN in their June 2012 draft rankings.
An incredibly skilled player, Teravainen has been praised for his impressive skill and hockey sense, but a great deal of concerns have been raised by scouts about his small stature and lack of physical development. If Teravainen moves from Europe to North America, bulking up will be a major priority over the next two to three years. The young winger was a point a game talent at junior levels, but his production dropped after moving to the top league, which may signal potential issues with his transition to the NHL as well.
