As I fully expected, Stan Bowman remained quiet and did not make any major moves because he didn't have to.  Bowman does a great job of building a team to win now while always keeping his focus on the future as well.  He was not going to risk that future in order to overreact to what other teams do.  Bowman added to the defensive depth by giving up a 2nd round pick to the Coyotes for David Rundblad and Mathieu Brisebois.  When this move was made on Tuesday I thought it meant Sheldon Brookbank would get moved on Wednesday but that never came to fruition.  The Hawks are currently carrying eight defensemen, so we might see if Rundblad can play wing on the 3rd line. When Bowman traded Brandon Pirri on Sunday, there was a lot of reaction of how "little" of a return the Hawks got back from Florida.  Considering guys like Dustin Penner, Ilya Bryzgalov, Stepane Robidas, and Tomas Vanek got traded for less than Pirri, I think Bowman did a pretty good job.

So who won the trade deadline? Only time will tell but I like what the Wild and Ducks did.  Minnesota is taking a low risk, high reward gamble on Bryzgalov and Matt Moulson will add to their scoring depth that was so desperately needed.  A guy like Robidas is not going to get a fan base excited, but he will be a great fit on a already very good team.  I like the Canadiens picking up Vanek for very little.  If the Habs do not make the playoffs the picks involved in the trade get sent right back. The Kings added Marian Gaborik who, if he can stay healthy, will add some offense to the Los Angeles lineup. Tim Murray did a great job in Buffalo loading up on draft picks for a team looking to rebuild.

The two biggest losers of the deadline were Garth Snow and Mike Gillis.  Snow gave up Moulson, a 1st and 2nd round pick in order to get Vanek early in the season.  He then flipped Vanek for a mid level prospect and a conditional 2nd round pick.  In less than a year the Canucks have gone from Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider in net to Eddie Lack and Jacob Markstrom,  I fully expect these two boobs sitting next Jay Feaster during TSN's deadline coverage next season.

So the rosters are set for the final run of the regular season as the teams set themselves up to try and win the best trophy in all of sports.  This is better than Christmas!
