Hawks Acquire Brendan Morrison

Hawks Acquire Brendan Morrison

So much for that weekend off. Anyway, the Hawks have acquired Brendan Morrison from the Flames. On the surface, Morrison could be a very nice 4th line center in the John Madden role. He can win draws. Doesn't help the kill much. My fear is that they'll try him at the #2 hole, and I don't think that will work. Anyway, Hawks give up Brian Connelly, who had some decent numbers at the A but is behind Olsen on the depth chart, as well as Clendenning and maybe others when they get in the system. Very low risk, maybe medium reward here.

Eklund:Rumor: Jack Johnson (LAK) to the Hawks (e2)

Eklund:Rumor: Jack Johnson (LAK) to the Hawks (e2)
*The Hawks, a team with cap space to use, are interested in Kings d-man Jack Johnson... It is curious to me if there is a fit there for LA however. The Kings want a top 6 forward and a d replacement (not of jj's caliber of course). One source told me he expected there to be "another team involved and I wouldn't e surprised if it was a three-way deadline deal...the kind we have seen the Kings get involved with before."
We are definitely in the market for a dman, Johnson is a name that's out there. He averages 16 minutes a game this year, only 1 minute 33 seconds (5th best) in terms of SHTOI. I'm guessing this is hot air, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

Sharp Out 3-4 Weeks

Wow, a fanshot and a post from me today. Don't you feel blessed? Anyway, Kuc says it's 3-4 weeks with an upper body injury, and I bet that's all the Hawks will tell us at all. It's not good, and won't keep McClure from lighting candles at his Sharp shrine in his apartment, but it's not disaster either. It means that Sharp should return for at least a portion of that three-week death march trip. Could have been so much worse.
