Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Olli Jokinen scored two goals and added an assist, as the Phoenix Coyotes doubled up San Jose, 4-2, and snapped the Sharks' seven-game winning streak.
Peter Mueller registered a goal and an assist for the Desert Dogs, who won consecutive games for the first time since starting the season 2-0. Viktor Tikhonov also found the back of the net, while Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 30-of-32 shots, including 15 in the third period.
Ryane Clowe had a goal and an assist for San Jose, which had won nine of the previous 12 meetings. Brian Boucher made his second consecutive start with Evgeni Nabokov hampered by a lower body injury and made 26 saves in a losing effort.
Mueller's power-play marker two minutes into the second period put Phoenix up 3-2. Bryzgalov's heroics between the pipes made the lead stand, and San Jose defensemen Dan Boyle, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Christian Ehrhoff were sent to the box in the final minutes of regulation, effectively killing any chance of a comeback.
Jokinen then sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.
The Sharks built a 2-0 lead on the power play midway through the opening period, but Phoenix bounced back to score a pair of goals in a 27-second span and the clubs were locked at two after one frame.
Boyle hammered it home from the point through traffic to put San Jose on the board 4:15 into the contest, and Clowe's wrister from the top of the left circle beat Bryzgalov on the stick side at the 10:30 mark.
A first-round pick (28th overall) in June, Tikhonov maneuvered to the left faceoff dot before snapping a shot off the skate of a San Jose defender and between the legs of Boucher for his first career NHL tally.
Jokinen then beat Boucher on a wraparound, tying the game with 7:26 remaining.
Coming into the game, Boucher had allowed just one goal in three starts this season...Clowe has nine goals in the last 10 games...Phoenix finished 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Sharks were 2-for-5.
