Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Signed as a free agent on Wednesday, Mark Parrish provided an immediate impact, recording his sixth career hat trick in Dallas' 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center.
Brad Richards registered a goal and an assist for the Stars, who won for just the second time in their last five games. Marty Turco, who entered play ranked last in the league in goals-against average (4.34) and save percentage (.837), stopped 28-of-30 shots to get the win.
Scott Niedermayer and Brendan Morrison scored for Anaheim, which was seeking its ninth victory in 10 games. Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed four goals on 13 shots before he was replaced by Jonas Hiller early in the second period. Hiller finished with 12 saves.
"We got away from our game," said Niedermayer.
Rookie left winger Fabian Brunnstrom gave Dallas a 1-0 lead 7:07 into the contest. Mike Ribeiro came around the far post and nudged the puck into the slot, where Brunnstrom used the backhand to shovel it home.
While on the power play, Sean Avery backhanded the puck from behind the net and Parrish one-timed it past the glove of Giguere at the 10:44 mark.
Morrison put Anaheim on the board with 2:32 remaining in the opening period, but the Stars began the second period on the power play and Parrish lit the lamp at 1:13.
The Minnesota native then completed the hat trick 5:52 into the middle stanza. Niedermayer backpedaled into his zone and the normally sure-handed defenseman tripped over the puck at the blue line, allowing Parrish to swoop in, collect the loose disc and fired it behind Giguere.
"I was hoping to get off to a good start, but I wasn't expecting that," Parrish said of his Dallas debut.
Richards gave the Stars a 5-1 lead at the 9:01 mark of the third period, then Niedermayer countered with a power-play goal less than two minutes later.
Teemu Selanne picked up his 370th career assist in a Duck uniform on Morrison's tally, passing Paul Kariya for first place on the franchise's all-time list...Selanne also extended his point streak to nine games (eight goals, six assists)...Anaheim center Ryan Getzlaf has six goals and 18 points during his nine-game point streak...Ribeiro collected two assists...Before the game, Dallas activated defenseman Sergei Zubov off injured reserve. He had missed all of training camp and the first 12 games of the season after undergoing hip surgery.
