Toews will be out for four weeks

Add one more to the infirmary report:

An MRI performed in Chicago has confirmed Blackhawks rookie center Jonathan Toews has a sprained left knee and will miss about four weeks. Toews injured his knee during the first period of the Hawks’ 9-2 defeat to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.

Toews was placed on the injured list Wednesday, joining seven teammates: Kevyn Adams (knee), Ben Eager (concussion), Jason Williams (groin), Martin Havlat (groin), James Wisniewski (knee), Dave Bolland (finger) and Brent Sopel (finger).

Williams and Havlat are close to returning, possibly Sunday night when the Hawks host the Detroit Red Wings, while Sopel will probably return sometime next week.

Four weeks really isn’t that bad I guess, because I was thinking 6-8 weeks or the rest of the season the way the Hawks’ luck has been, but still, I do not see this team picking up many wins at all with Toews out for a month. Sure, Havlat and Williams are coming back soon, but how long until they re-aggravate their groin injuries and are out again? It’s been a great season for this team, but I think this is the point where it all goes downhill. I hope I am wrong.
