RIP -Dan Appelt aka Badgerdano

We've said over and over that probably the greatest thing about SCH is the sense of community that we've been able to build among a large group of people that for the most part have never actually met each other face-to-face. It's a joy to meet each and every one of you at games, road watches, bars or where ever else it may happen.

So it's with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of one of our own, Dan Appelt - better known here as Badgerdano. Dan had been with us here on SCH almost since the beginning and his absence will certainly be felt. Our hearts go out to Dan's family and friends in this difficult time.

Rest in peace Dan - you will be missed.

From MightyMikeD:

Today I returned from vacation and caught up with my e-mail for the first time in a week. Among them was one which I will now (as requested) share with you folk. Sadly, it concerns the sudden passing of one of our own, Badgerdano.

Hello, I got your email off the second city web site where Badgerdano used to be a member. I hope you don't mind me emailing you but I wanted to inform you that Badgerdano passed away on June 7th. I noticed that some where wondering where he was. Can you pass this along. He would never take his balls and go play elsewhere. I think that is how one referred to it in one of the posts.

His name was Dan Appelt. If you google it you will see the link to Brust funeral home with the death notice.

the link to the notice is here

I never met Dan Appelt and knew him only through his SCH name of Badgerdano, but I think I speak for us all when I say that I will truly miss his presence on SCH and am deeply sad that he will not be joining us at the new site, where his good humour and insight would have been most welcome.

As someone who has been "Badgerdano'd" more often than most, I really hope that the meme will continue. As fitting a tribute as can be paid by a group of strangers.

I'm sure that you will all join me in wishing deepest sympathies to his friends and family, and especially his partner Pat who made the effort, in a difficult time, to pass this sad news on.
