Morning Bag Skate: Brandon Mashinter placed on waivers

Our daily look at Blackhawks news and the happenings around the world of hockey.

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

It's back to reality after a fun weekend, but we still have a couple days until the Blackhawks take the ice again. The team is unbeaten after two games of varying quality and gets matchups against Calgary and Nashville this week with a chance to keep the good times rolling. For now, let's take a look at the news:

**Lots of talk about Daniel Carcillo after his impressive showing against Buffalo on Saturday (CSN Chicago)

**The team placed Brandon Mashinter on waivers (CSN Chicago)

**Minnesota announced a six-year, $25 million extension for defenseman Jonas Brodin. The Wild are paying an annual cap hit of $4.17 million, and it could prove to be a strong value for the club if the former first-round pick delivers a strong season. (Wild)

**The Hawks didn't play Sunday, but you can still catch up with the rest of the action around the league here (SB Nation)

**The Hurricanes have placed Jeff Skinner on IR and promoted Zach Boychuk from the AHL (Hurricanes)

**Ville Leino has signed with Medvescak Zagreb of the KHL after failing to crack the Bruins' roster during training camp (Sportsnet)

**The Bruins recalled Seth Griffith from the AHL and sent Craig Cunningham to Providence (Bruins)

**The Panthers opened their season with an attendance of just 11,419 fans, the lowest mark in franchise history. It's nearly 5,000 fewer fans than the second-lowest home opening attendance figure this season, as the Islanders got 16,170 fans to Nassau Coliseum. That's a sell-out crowd for New York, though. (Pro Hockey Talk)

**Evgeni Kuznetsov is one of the better rookies in the NHL this season, but the Capitals forward would rather someone else win the Calder Trophy. We'd happily let Teuvo take it if everyone's cool. (Puck Daddy)

**Sounds like the 2016 NHL Draft will be in Buffalo (Buffalo News)

**The Rangers have lost Dan Boyle for 4-6 weeks (Puck Daddy)

**Nice piece from Ryan Lambert on where the NHL got the whole Chris Pronger situation wrong (Puck Daddy)
