With the season closing in, we're beginning preseason week here at Second City Hockey on Monday. We'll be starting by answering three key questions surrounding the Blackhawks in a post going up soon that accompanies the huge SB Nation NHL preview, which you'll definitely want to check out. We'll be posting lots of stuff this week, including positional previews, opponent breakdowns and more, but for now, let's see what happened over the weekend.

**The Blackhawks lost on Friday, but rolled through Saskatoon with a 5-0 win over the Oilers on Sunday. Lots of good stuff to see in the shutout (Second City Hockey)

**The United Center is being sued after a fan suffered serious injuries from a stray puck hitting his head during a postseason game last May. Part of the possible settlement involves extending the netting around the ice, which seems like an obvious measure if stuff like this can happen (Puck Daddy)

**Good work here, NBC (SB Nation)

**The Blues finally got Jaden Schwartz under contract on a two-year, $4.7 million deal. That's an annual cap hit of $2.35 million, and one imagines the winger will be looking for a big deal once this bridge contract runs out (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

**The Penguins could have first-round pick Kasperi Kapanen in the lineup from Day 1. He's certainly a high-level talent, and it would be interesting to see Pittsburgh push him that quickly. (Penguins)

**Oilers captain Andrew Ference suffered an arm injury during the team's preseason game against the Hawks on Sunday (Oilers)

**Henrik Lundqvist takes a good photo (Gotham Magazine)

**A look at the implications of the Derek Stepan injury in New York (SB Nation)

**The Islanders signed No. 5 overall pick Michael Dal Colle to an entry-level contract (TSN)

**Comedian Will Arnett visited Maple Leafs practice over the weekend. I bet there were jokes and laughs and good times. (Pro Hockey Talk)

**Jacob Markstrom is headed to the AHL after clearing waivers (Pro Hockey Talk)

**The Canadiens are sending first-round pick Nikita Scherbak back to the WHL this season. "Quietly they were disappointed" with the 18-year-old forward during camp, although it's not exactly so quiet anymore (Sportsnet)

**Tampa Bay unveiled a third jersey. (Pro Hockey Talk)

**The Devils cut veteran defenseman Mike Komisarek after a camp tryout (Devils)
