The Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild will meet for a Stadium Series matchup at the University of Minnesota on Feb. 21, 2016, the NHL announced Saturday. As part of commissioner Gary Bettman's address to reporters for All-Star Weekend, the league detailed the upcoming outdoor games for the 2015-16 season.
The Blackhawks are once again lucky enough to be invited, this time to face the Wild at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. It's the first time Minnesota has hosted an outdoor game, even though Chicago has gotten the privilege of playing in the fresh air several times already.
TCF Bank Stadium usually plays host to the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team, and was the temporary home of the Minnesota Vikings while their new stadium was built. Originally opened in 2009, the stadium holds a capacity of 52,525.
The NHL also announced the 2016 Winter Classic, which will feature the Boston Bruins hosting the Montreal Canadiens, as well as another Stadium Series matchup with the Colorado Avalanche hosting the Detroit Red Wings.
