Morning Bag Skate: The curious case of Patrick Sharp

New, comments

Our daily look at Blackhawks news and the happenings around the world of hockey.

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Factual statement: The Chicago Cubs have as many World Series titles as Patrick Sharp has 5-on-5 goals this season. It is Feb. 17, not Oct. 17, right?

Is it just a long stretch of bad puck luck? Are his diminishing ice time totals a sign his earlier knee injury still lingers? Is his slot on the fourth line an indication Joel Quenneville is trying to see how the top nine fares without him, to get a better idea of how they'd do if he were to be traded before the deadline? Do we just have odd thoughts running through our heads because there's two days between games?

To the news:

**Patrick Sharp has a ridiculously low shooting percentage. Is he due for a swift, Hossa-like increase? (Sun Times)

**Or, on the other hand, is Sharp perfect trade bait? (SCH)

**Corey Crawford is back on top of his game. (Chicago Tribune)

**Marian Hossa has never looked better in an Indianhead sweater, and his recent torrid pace earned him First Star of the Week honors. (NHL)

**Cross Marc Methot off the list of potential deadline acquisitions for Stan Bowman. (Puck Daddy)

**Dmitry Kulikov received a four-game suspension for clipping Tyler Seguin. (NHL)

**Go Islanders. (SBN)
