Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane will not return to the team's game against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night due to an upper body injury, the team announced. It's unclear how serious the injury is or where it's located beyond the general area, but this could be devastating news for the 'Hawks as they try to make another postseason run.
Kane suffered the injury early in the first period Tuesday after colliding into the boards following a push from Alex Petrovic:
Kane was immediately in pain after the play and headed to the locker room shortly thereafter. He's presumably still going further evaluations as doctors try to make a diagnosis, and we'll keep you updated on the latest.
The league's leading point scorer with 64 through 60 games, Kane was considered a Hart Trophy candidate as league MVP for his fantastic performance through the first two-thirds of the season. His loss could be devastating to the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup aspirations, so everybody keep your fingers crossed.
