The Rockford IceHogs scored three goals in the third period to defeat the Texas Stars, 4-2, in the opener of their Western Conference quarterfinal series at Cedar Park Center on Friday night.

The IceHogs, the Chicago Blackhawks' AHL affiliate, had lost 10 consecutive playoff games dating back to their last win, a 5-1 victory at Chicago on May 9, 2008. Rockford was swept by Milwaukee in 2009 and Texas in 2010 before missing the playoffs each of the last four seasons.

Spencer Abbott opened the scoring with a power-play goal 6:23 into the first period. But Texas' Curtis McKenzie scored late in the second period and Julius Honka gave the Stars a 2-1 lead with 4:24 gone in the third.

Abbott netted his second goal to tie it back up on a 5-on-3 power play for his sixth goal in eight postseason games against Texas in the past two seasons.

Kirill Gotovets scored the game-winning goal with 7:41 remaining, and Ryan Hartman added an insurance goal with an empty-net tally.

Rockford's Mark McNeill left the game in the second period with a lower-body and did not return.

Michael Leighton made 33 saves for Rockford. Jussi Rynnas stopped 33 of 36 shots for the Stars.

Game 2 is set for Saturday at Cedar Park Center.
