2016 World Cup of Hockey: Blackhawks’ Ville Pokka, Teuvo Teravainen named to Team Finland’s roster

Teuvo Teravainen and Ville Pokka will represent the Chicago Blackhawks on Team Finland’s roster for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, the Finish Ice Hockey Association announced Friday.

Teravainen, 21, recorded 13 goals and 22 assists in 78 games this season for Chicago. The 2012 first-round pick added an assist in the playoffs. The Helsinki, Finland native competed for Finland in the 2013 and 2014 World Junior Championships, winning gold in 2014.

Pokka, also 21, tallied 10 goals and 35 assists in 76 games during his second professional season with AHL Rockford. He played with Teravainen at the ’13 and ’14 WJCs, and had two assists in the 2015 edition.

This year’s World Cup of Hockey, which represents the event’s return after a hiatus, is set for September and will be held in Toronto. The format is slightly modified from the past World Cup tournaments, with six national teams and two special “all-star teams” participating.

The eight teams that will compete this year are the United States, Canada, Sweden, Finland, Russia and the Czech Republic, plus Team Europe and Under-23 Team North America.
