2016 World Juniors: Blackhawks’ prospect Gustav Forsling makes Sweden’s roster, Fredrik Olofsson cut

Chicago Blackhawks‘ prospects Gustav Forsling will represent Sweden at the 2016 World Junior Championships, while Fredrik Olofsson was one of the final roster cuts Thursday.

Forsling, 19, has tallied two goals and 10 assists in 27 games this season for Linkoping HC. It is his second season with the senior team. He was acquired last January in a trade with Vancouver.

Olofsson, 19, has six goals and six assists in 16 games in his first season for Nebraska-Omaha. He logged 27 goals and 60 points in 57 games for the Chicago Steel of the USHL last season. The Blackhawks drafted him in the fourth round in 2014.

The 2016 WJC will be held in Helsinki, Finland, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, 2016. Sweden opens its tournament play against Switzerland at 8 a.m. Saturday. Forsling will play fellow Hawks’ prospect Nick Schmaltz and Team USA on Dec. 28 in the second game of group play.

Hawks prospects Forsling, Schmaltz and Joni Tuulola (Finland) have been named to final rosters. Radovan Bondra was on Slovakia’s preliminary roster, but the team has yet to name its roster for the tournament.
