Powers’ source says van Riemsdyk is not expected to require surgery.

Van Riemsdyk was injured in the second period and did not return in the Blackhawks’ loss to the Blue Jackets on Friday night in Columbus. The blue liner found himself tangled up with Blue Jackets forward Josh Anderson as he drove to the net and into goaltender Corey Crawford. Both players crashed into the net, while van Riemsdyk’s right arm smashed against the goal post.
It’s not the first injury to sideline van Riemsdyk.
The 25-year-old fractured his ankle at the University of New Hampshire in January 2014, and missed the remainder of that season. After playing in only 18 NHL games for the Hawks in the 2014-15 season, he fractured his left patella and later his right wrist with AHL Rockford. He returned to play in four games in the Stanley Cup Final.
