Twitter's been around for a while now, but it's always exciting when someone new and famous joins the platform. So while Jonathan Toews joining the world of reactionary 140 characters was a surprise, it was a really nice one.
And it's only been a little more than a day, but I already love him. More than I did before, I mean.
Because...
- He's actually tweeting, and,
- So far, he's got personality.
Captain Serious is goofing around online. His tweets so far don't look like they're being written by a PR person or handler, unless it's standard practice for them to go overly Canadian or call teammates little pukes.
Or both (apologies! He's so Canadian it hurts):
jk u know I love u @shawz15er. Tough loss for the boys, thanks again for the support and all the follows Hawks fans!

I fully expect that as time goes on and the race to maintain supremacy in the Western Conference (to say nothing of the actual playoffs themselves when they get here) intensifies, he'll be online a little less. But this is a really good, really funny debut, and hopefully, when the off-season inevitably strikes, Toews will pick up his phone and share his shenanigans and/or co-worker insults with the rest of us.
Seriously, there's nothing better than professional athletes knowing what they're doing on the Internet. And just like with hockey, Toews clearly knows what he's doing.
Let's not forget, though, that there are victims in all of this:

Poor Scott Darling. He's hilarious. Let's get another 50,000 people or so to follow him so he can get bragging rights. He's earned it with that tweet alone.
