Blackhawks' Marian Hossa returns to skating Monday

The 37-year-old forward will not play during Chicago's two-game road trip.

Marian Hossa will return to the ice Monday from a lower-body injury, but only for practice, coach Joel Quenneville told reporters Saturday. Quenneville added that Hossa will not play during the two-game road trip, but could return for next Sunday's home game against Detroit.

Hossa is already eligible to return from injured reserve. Chicago travels to Detroit and Boston on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. The 37-year-old winger suffered a lower-body injury to his left side Feb. 13 after a hip check by Anaheim Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm. Hossa left the game in the second period and did not return.

Hossa, a two-way threat even in a down offensive year, is four goals shy of No. 500 for his career. He’s a fixture on the Hawks’ top line at right wing, power play and penalty kill, and has been one of the top defensive forwards in the league for years. He would become the 44th in league history to reach the 500 goal mark.
