The Dallas Stars scored four first-period goals and clinched a playoff spot with a 6-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night at the United Cener.
Vernon Fiddler scored twice and Colton Sceviour had a goal and an assist for Dallas. Kari Lehtonen stopped 30 of 32 shots for the Stars' (44-21-9) fourth win in the five-game season series against Chicago.
The Blackhawks (42-25-7) gave up a 4-0 lead to the Stars in the first at home for the second straight game. The Stars scored the first four goals in a 4-2 win Feb. 11, led by Patrick Eaves' hat trick.
Eaves found his scoring touch again.
He scored in the first, along with Sceviour and Fiddler. Radek Faksa scored in the second and Cody Eakin added an empty-netter in the third.
Scott Darling made his fourth consecutive start and allowed four goals on 15 first-period shots. Darling, who is starting for Corey Crawford (upper-body), was pulled at the first intermission for Michael Leighton, who made 16 saves.
Andrew Shaw and Richard Panik scored for the Hawks for the second straight game. Chicago sits in third in the Central Division and fell six points back of first-place Dallas with eight games left in the regular-season.
The Hawks will regroup with three days off before hitting the ice again Saturday at Calgary.
