Michael Leighton passed Hockey Hall of Famer Johnny Bower atop the American Hockey League record books.

Leigthon and the Rockford IceHogs blanked the Lake Erie Monsters 5-0. The shutout was Leighton's 46th of his AHL career, passing Bower for the league record.

The 34-year-old Leighton, who was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks 165th overall in 1999, hit the mark in his 430th AHL game while it took Bower 592 to set the record. He is 27-6-8 this season for the IceHogs.

Leighton made his AHL debut in 2001 with Norfolk and he has played for Rochester, Portland, Philadelphia, Albany, Adirondack and Rockford. Bower spent eight seasons with Cleveland before making the jump to the NHL in 1953.
