2017 Winter Classic alumni game rosters: Blues to roll out star power against Blackhawks

Following in the tradition of past Winter Classics, the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues will play an alumni game Saturday at Busch Stadium. The final rosters for the game full of former players were revealed Friday.

It’s safe to say St. Louis is bringing a little extra star power as the home team.

The Blackhawks’ roster features lots of the usual suspects like Eric Daze, Adrian Aucoin, Steve Konroyd, Daniel Carcillo, Jimmy Waite, Jack O’Callahan, and Adam Burish.

The Blues’ roster, meanwhile, features several of the greatest players in the history of the game. Between Wayne Gretzky, Martin Brodeur, Keith Tkachuk, Chris Pronger, Adam Oates, Al MacInnis, and Brett Hull, this almost feels like a cruel joke. Especially considering Gretzky and Brodeur played a combined 25 games in St. Louis.

Luckily, it’s just an alumni game, so the results don’t really matter. The fact that we’ll get to see so many of these legends suit up and take the ice again will be entertaining in itself (I mean, outside of the fact that they’ll all be wearing Blues sweaters).

But, man, looking at these rosters side-by-side, it’ll be hilarious if the St. Louis alumni don’t straight up kick some Chicago alumni butt. And it’ll be EVEN MORE hilarious if something wacky happens like Carcillo deking past Gretzky for a goal. Those reasons alone might be enough to tune in.

The alumni game starts at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon.
