The Chicago Blackhawks recalled defenseman Gustav Forsling from the AHL on Sunday, the team announced. In order to make room for him on the roster, Michal Rozsival was placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 25.
Forsling was reassigned to the Rockford IceHogs on Jan. 6 after spending opening the season with the Blackhawks. He recorded one goal and four assists in 11 games with the IceHogs before getting the call back up to the NHL.
In 32 games with the Blackhawks this season, the 20-year-old has recorded one goal and three assists.
Rozsival last played Jan. 15 against the Minnesota Wild. It’s unclear what kind of injury he’s suffered, but this allows the Blackhawks to temporarily remove him from the active roster. His cap hit will continue to count against the team’s books, and he’ll be eligible to come off IR on Wednesday.
The Blackhawks now have seven defensemen (Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Michal Kempny, Trevor van Riemsdyk, Brian Campbell, and Forsling) on their active roster.
