New, comments

Artem Anisimov (upper body) is out, and the same is likely true for Nick Schmaltz (ill).

The Chicago Blackhawks host the New York Islanders on Friday night as they look for their sixth straight victory. The Hawks seem to be unstoppable as of late, earning a W in 10 of their last 11 games.

Chicago now has a 40-18-5 record this season, and sits with 85 points, just three points behind the Central Division-leading Wild. The Islanders currently sit in the last wild card position in the Eastern Conference, with a 30-22-10 record, and are coming off of a 5-4 victory over the Dallas Stars Thursday night.

Will Chicago be able to keep their winning streak alive with the possibility of missing two of their core goal scorers? Artem Anisimov is out and Nick Schmaltz is also likely out. Anisimov left Wednesday night’s game against Pittsburgh after suffering a lower-body injury while Schmaltz did not skate in Friday’s practice due an illness.

Johnny Oduya will not join the Hawks lineup until next week, when the team hosts the Anaheim Ducks on March 9. Niklas Hjalmarsson (upper body) remains out and could return to skating in the next few days.

Corey Crawford will get the start in net for Chicago after missing two straight games due to illness. Crawford has a 24-13-3 record in his 40 games started this season, with a 2.58 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.

New York’s starting goaltender has not yet been released, but with Thomas Greiss getting the start last night in Dallas, Jean-Francois Bérubé may start. Bérubé has 3-2-2 record this season, with a 3.38 goals-against average, and .894 save percentage.

This is the second and final meeting between the Hawks and Isles this season, as the Hawks look to sweep the season series. The two teams last met in December, where Chicago earned a 5-4 victory in New York.
