Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane named to 2018 NHL All-Star Game

Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane was named to the 2018 NHL All-Star Game Central Division roster Wednesday. It will be Kane’s seventh All-Star appearance and fourth straight. He’s the Blackhawks’ only representative.

The game is Jan. 28 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The city last held the NHL All Star Game in 1999.

The 2018 NHL All-Star returns to a 3-on-3 tournament format after successful games in Nashville (2016) and Los Angeles (2017). Under the tournament rules, the All-Star Game will be divided into three 20-minute games, with star players from each NHL division making up the four All-Star teams: Pacific, Central, Atlantic and Metropolitan.

Each team had one player voted into the division by fans. The other All-Stars were selected by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department. Each team has six forwards, three defenseman, and two goaltenders.

The 29-year-old Kane leads the Hawks in points (45), goals (18), and assists (27) in 42 games this season. His 45 points rank 13th overall in the NHL and third only to Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon and Winnipeg’s Blake Wheeler of 52 points in the Central Division.
